Instructions leave a bit to be desired but this in an old conversion and there are plenty of sources on the internet including YouTube videos. The included belt was too big for my tractor, had to use the old one. Other than that no issues.

Good value
Product came as described. Installed fairly easily. I did have to modify the top mounting to use on my 9n to allow the use of the tube for the wires . Make sure to use the new resistor that comes with the kit . It says it’s optional but I burnt up the original resistor on the tractor almost immediately after the install.

Great way to update your tractors electrial system about 25 years?
The weakest part of this kit is the instructions. Without knowledge of breaker point ignitions and positive/negative grounding, it would be difficult to wire properly. The next would be the wiring harness. I don't know how much difference there is between Ford 8n tractors, but the wires in this kit are too short to route properly on mine. (stock 1948) Some of the connectors were not correct. The brackets seem strong enough to hold the alternator and the install of it was fairly simple. The ammeter seems to indicate the battery is charging but if I measure the voltage at the battery, it seems to be, on/off/on/off/on/off, unlike any other alternator I have experience with. Also measure a 30 Volt AC ripple. Not factored into my 3 star rating is that this kit price dropped $50 from another Amazon seller between the time I ordered mine and it arrived. Sadly, the seller was not interested in negotiating but would rather have me ship it back and purchase it from the other source. I decided to eat the $50 rather than hassle with the return. One more thing I would like to mention is that the 6 volt starter on this tractor "does not care about polarity" and works as is so don't worry about the tractor now being negative ground. I spent some time looking into this before I bought the kit so hopefully will save someone else the effort.

Great kit for upgrading older ford tractors from 6v to 12 volt. Wiring diagram could have had a little more detail, if your a novice, but fine for experienced mechanics.

Always Charged
When we got the tractor, it had been rewired by monkeys with ADHD. So I got this kit, took out all the existing wiring and started over, and now have no problems whatsoever. This kit mad it relatively easy to do. So if you are thinking about converting your 6 volt to a 12 volt, buy this kit and the 12 volt starter, and you will have pretty much everything you need for an easy and successful conversion.

Only partially works but too many faulty parts to be worth it.
I read a lot of the reviews here before buying this kit. I though I was handy enough to work around whatever needed modification, but it turns out many of the criticisms were right. I have a '41 Ford 9N and just to start off, the support bracket that bolts to the head just didn't fit as designed. On the second head bolt, there is an original bracket that holds the throttle linkage. So either you take that off and put this under it, or the mounting surfaces are uneven. And then the bolts won't have but half of the thread to grip to, which is concerning to get the head bolts to the torque required. I ended up cutting the bracket down to one bolt and welding two flaps to keep it from moving. Too much work for a "kit". Second, the ignition coil included in this kit was faulty. Once I replaced this part, my tractor started right up. The belt was indeed too small. I ended up reusing the original belt. The wiring harness was of adequate length for my needs. All of that was fine. I did use a different wiring arrangement from what was specified with this kit, but I used all the wires included in this kit for my revised wiring scheme. The alternator is the standard Delco that everyone uses. It works fine. There are no real instructions for this kit. They just included a printout of a crude wiring diagram with no other explanation. This is by far the worst part of this kit. Like everyone else here, I figured it out, but the kit really needs some explanation. Too many things can go wrong and you could potentially damage your tractor if you install this wrong. Would I buy this again? Absolutely not. I would pay more from one of the more custom kits from the tractor sites on the internet.

I read the other reviews prior to ordering. Several negative comments were correct in my case, overall it is a good product if you have a home shop and good general skills. Three issues I noted and had to work around. 1. The belt is indeed to short – my stock belt was in great shape so I reused it. 2. The upper bracket that mounts on the cylinder head will not work ‘as is’ if you have the stock plug wire tube. I needed to bend the face of the bracket to 45 degrees and use a spacer to make the upper bracket align properly. 3. The loom to the alternator is too short, the wires are not long enough to reach the Ammeter and resistor block. I had to lengthen the loom so it ran in the original location. I DID NOT use the included resister as mine was still working properly. Overall a good product at a very fair price for my 1948 8N – recommend it.
