New blue version suck older better need improvements
This review is for the galaxy kinetic art kit. It's the one that has several rings suspended on a string with a center sphere. I am quite fond of this particular kinetic sculpture because the motion is seemingly perpetual even though it's actually powered by 2AA batteries in the base. The upper pyramid attached to the string has magnets inside that's kept in constant motion driven by the base unit once you set the sculpture in motion. The motion of this sculpture is very free-floating and momentum driven because the difference in ring size (different mass.) This makes it quite unique compared to the others types of kinetic sculptures they also sell. Once the spinning reaches a peak, the string will twist to a max and reverse motion then continue in the opposite direction. Very therapeutic to watch. I love this, and many might like it but I dislike the new color scheme. The blue is too monochromatic if that's the right word to describe. There once was a version of this that has multiple colors that were more differentiated. You can Google it but chances are you're no longer able to buy it. I tried on eBay and was sent a blue one despite ad showed original colors. The original multi colored rings also had metallic quality to it which reflects sun light on your walls if lighting is right. Here are some suggestions to the manufacturer: 1. Make a version of this that doesn't run on batteries but solar powered. The base unit can be designed to have solar panels. This will make the sculpture spin indefinitely. 2. Make a mini version. I WANT A MINI VERSION!!! 3. Mutli-color, not different boring gradients of blue with silver. Or have both versions. 4. Make one out of Plexi glass..or maybe it's acrylic...I forgot...but there's acrylic material that's neon colored where the edge reflects light in such a way that it looks like it's glowing. I recently saw this made use by Target for the base of a display and seen it in Container Store first time for a acrylic box with glowing edges. 5. Make one where you can suspend it in mid-air. The base unit with solar panels at the top, and pyramid with magnets under, then the strings with all the rings attached. Have metal ball or weight at the bottom to keep string straight. I don't have more to add except I REALLY want a mini version solar version that I can hang or keep on a desktop..

Don’t give up, the third time pays for it all
The third times a charm! Or as a good friend would say,”the third time pays for it all”! I’m only giving four stars as we (my son and i) first received one with the cone Brocken off, that is to say the string/thread was broken. Cutting to the first chase we returned it and promptly had it replaced, if not for the reviews, one in particular said you have to try slowly adjusting the top screw that raises or lowers the device; cone in particular until you get to the sweet spot. That or another review (can’t remember) said he or she was surprised to find a larger gap then expected. I walked the device upanddown, spent quite a lot of time but to no avail. A side story; a great friend who sadly passed several years ago and I would always joke that he or I could get the one in a million of what we bought and it was the defective one! Well I had to get one that worked, so returning then receiving the third unit paid for it all! One glitch which with a little more finger power turned the screw as the cone was resting on the base got the device to rise and when it was right On the money, BINGO!!! It started right up just from the vibration of turning the screw!!! It’s been preforming for three days now and was worth the trials and tribulations as it is really cool and mesmerizing ( if you are a nerdy geek as myself! ) I would recommend this to anyone who likes the kinetic “art” type of mechanisms! And if need be remember the third time just might pay for it all !

Just what I expected
I purchased one of these toys for my desk at work as something to look at when my day gets a bit too stressful. It was pretty much exactly what I expected from reading the reviews--the whole thing is made of plastic, and I am sure that the metallic coating will flake right off of the rings with not much abrasion, but come on people, what do you expect for the price! :-) Do not be afraid to play with the adjustments on the piece to get it to work however. I had it set up for a full two days and had just about given up on making the continuous motion element work, when I read another review that said that they had to set the distance between the base and the triangle further than they expected. I made that adjustment as well, and voila, it is working away like a charm. I would say that the distance between the base and the triangle for my unit is closer to 1/4" than the 1/8" they suggest in the instructions. Also, for those folks who have commented about turning it off--you are right, there is no off switch. Once you put the batteries in, it is going. To stop the power drain, you will have to remove the batteries. However, if you simply want to stop the movement for some reason, just take the pin out of the hole in the base, and that should effectively "turn it off."

Mesmerizing and Relaxing
It's a product I buy as a gift often. Everyone loves it and finds it something they remember me for always because it's unique and interesting. I find myself staring at it and feeling relaxed. It's one of my favorite purchases, ever. :)
