Hard to determine cause of problems
All parts must be snipped out of a plastic frame. There is one early point where you connect the battery and control module to test the gears. There is no further test until you are done. When you are done and the gears make a strange noise it is difficult to take apart to fix. I still do not know why mine does not work after taking it apart many times. There was also one bracing rod that did not seem to fit without cutting and glueing. This definitely has nothing to do with my problem. I would like to see more explanation about the design and how everything works with just a forward and reverse of the motor. It may help to determine what would cause certain problems. REVISED: I finally got it to work. It needs a smooth floor and will flip on its side on a rug. I think it just took a while for the gears to turn smoothly.

Definitely not for kids...
I bought this as a Christmas gift. I was going to gift it to my son, but found something else for him so I gave it to my husband instead. It took my husband 3 hours to build it. Unless your 10 year old is a prodigy there's no way they will be able to do this by themselves. It's a fun little toy, sometimes it doesn't seem to "hear" claps very well but it does work well enough. My husband really enjoyed it. But I'm incredibly glad I did not give it to my son.

It was a gift
My 11 year old grandson had difficulty assembling this. I am usually good at putting things together. I was not extremely difficult, but it was not easy either. It works as described. He loves it. Better than a real hedgehog pet! You don't have to feed it or take it to the vet. It is not messy. No cage to maintain or poop to clean up. Did not have to train it to do tricks. It already knows how. Spiky, just like a real one. About the same size. Since REAL hedgehogs are not very cuddly anyway, this is definitely better than the real thing.

High Hopes
Our granddaughter was so excited but even with dad's help just couldn't get it to work. Looks adorable though.

Not worth the $ or (massive) effort
My wife bought this toy for my 7yo son. It took me (dad) several hours to assemble and I found the experience to be arduous and not much fun I have an engineering degree and love legos, so I thought I’d enjoy it. The assembly is complex, the parts are attached by plastic requiring you to used a knife to cut them free, and it takes a LONG time. There is absolutely no way a kid can put this thing together. I have the robot assembled but it’s not operating as expected. Honestly, I don’t care to troubleshoot this thing, my patience ran out a long time ago - it’s not worth the hassle, given all it does is roll into a ball. I DO NOT recommend this toy as a gift, unless it’s for some punk kid whose parents you also don’t care for.

Nephew LOVED it.
We gave this to our Nephew in 2020, and I went over to his home this week and he brought it out and showed me all the things it can do. It has lasted over a year of playing with weekly. He let me know it was a fun gift as he was able to work with dad and build in a new way and do some coding. Great job! Great Value, and his smile was priceless.

Provides a great sense of accomplishment for your kid
A lot of work but worth the effort. My son and I had a great time making it. Take your time and be sure to follow the instructions carefully. Tip: I used nail clippers to cut off the extra plastic pieces when I detached them. One small piece was broken but the support team sent a replacement with no issues and it got here fast. Awesome toy

In proper definition of skill set required.
Based on this item you should be able to build it at 10 Years old, there is not accurate and it shouldn't be advertised as such

Good but...
My daughter loveee this. She is 8y old Daddy had to help, but they had fun. You need to have a very wake up child, to build it alone, or older. Downside ? It work n all But the kid got desinterest quickly once its over
