Decent gift for kids
Got this for my nephew and the interesting thing was I learned a thing or two as well. This is a good gift idea for kids.

Good try but falls short
There aren't many hands-on lab kits out there, so this was better than nothing; however, we tried to do the isolate genetic material experiment twice with no success. That was frustrating, especially when I had to buy a whole can of denatured alcohol. The DNA model was really hard to put together. It took some Internet searching for a visual and a lot of time to complete it; however, it looked cool when done. Because it kept falling apart, my student lost interest, so I had to do it. Growing microorganisms in the Petrie dish was cool. We had no idea what they were, though. That would have been even cooler.

Worthwhile entertainment!!
I found this kit to be quite informative and entertaining! I really enjoyed going through it, and as far as I could tell, it's all accurate, if somewhat simplified for the primary target audience. A good activity from this company!!

Full of Issues
The DNA model is extremely fragile and quite difficult to assemble. The test tube is too large for the tube stand - it falls over. The paper filter is too thick for the soapy tomatoe puree. The pipette is too narrow to allow alcohol to drip into the soapy puree. After improvising to overcome these issues, I tried the visible DNA experiment twice. It didn't work at all. No visible white strings or flakes. I wonder if the manufacturers even tested it themselves. The bacteria growing experiment doesn't seem to work either even though I followed the instructions as written.

Nice overview of genetics
This is one of the best Thames & Kosmos kits for the money. It comes with dozens of experiments, a chromosome game, a fake "crime scene" DNA mystery to solve, a neat little dna model that you put together, and lab tools you need to separate DNA from various vegetables as well as grow bacteria to experiment with survival of the fittest. The manual and cell poster are beautiful. One of our favorites!

This is a Christmas Gift, I am rating based on the Youtube videos I have watched and little conversations I have had with my grandson about how incredible it would be to do these little experiments. He was pretty excited. I am especially impressed about the fact that Thames & Kosmos let you know what age of child would be most interested in what particular product they are selling.

Not a complete pack to be able to do much of the experiments!
Since it does not have certain item/s in order to undertake activities you cant do many of the experiments i still have it but i need to get hold hold denatured alcohol and this is an additional cost which is quite costly! I feel the things that are added are durable they do look sufficient to do the job and children are very impressed and exited about using them including adults would be quite impressed to. however, the dna model is quite small in my opinion. Overall, I think it is a little much expensive for what is provided considering you cant get started unless you purchase the denatured alcohol which will put you out quite abit. But i would not say to lose interest in it at all- lets just say i would have been much happier with the item if someone else bought it as a gift for me than me spending £25-£30 on it! I would value it at £10-£18!

Put it straight in the dustbin!
Poor value for money. The item arrived in the box damaged. On further inspection some items were also missing Amazon told me to disregard it and gave me a refund.
