Comes with gasket and spark plug
Refurbishing an old lawnmower that was left outside in the elements for 4 years. Revised head looks different from the original but does still fit with no interference, spark plug location is over the exhaust valve rather than centered between valves… the spark plug boot can still reach there. Gasket and spark plug comes with the head, DO NOT BUY A SEPARATE GASKET AND PLUG.

Parts kit - has the cylinder head, gasket, and a new plug
No need to get separate parts - this has all you need to replace the cylinder head. Revised combustion chamber shape from my old head, spark plug is centered over the exhaust valve instead of between the two - a little more stretch for the spark plug wire/boot, but not overly tight. As with these parts - there are no tapped machine screw holes for the fasteners that hold the exhaust/muffler shield, or the two bolts in the front that secure the recoil starter assembly. The recesses are tapered and designed for you to carefully thread the existing bolts into the recess, they will tap out threads on their own just fine (this is by design). It's not difficult, and they are quite secure. Don't even need to get out a fancy tap set. Just use your ratchet and socket you used to remove the bolt - use consistent force to turn it (you'll know when it's seated). replaced the cylinder head because of a stripped spark plug thread.... this was around the same price as many of the spark plug insert repair kits... the bonus is you get to remove all the carbon from the cylinder face and valve area of the combustion chamber, and no messing around with heli-coil inserts. Torque specs for the head bolts are 165 in/lbs. Just tighten in a criss cross pattern (8 bolts). Worked great - if I ever strip the threads again, I'll buy another cylinder head and replace it. Part kit was nice. Spark plug needed to be properly gapped (supposed to be 0.030" for my motor, was around than 0.015") - so remember to check that if you are using the included plug.

Mixed bag
In my opinion there were pros and cons to this product and purchase experience. On the plus side, a head gasket and spark plug were included, so this is actually more of a kit than a part, making it a better value. However, because that information was not detailed on the Amazon product page, I separately ordered a gasket, which then had to be returned (being a part that I'd almost certainly never use). This is a listing/description issue, and so not B&S's fault. But I would fault B&S on not providing internal threads on the two bosses that are part of the casting (at least on the one I received). These threads might not be needed in every application, but they absolutely were in my case, and I only realized there were no threads after I had the head installed. I then had to tap the holes while the head was installed in the horizontal position--Not an easy task. And I did not have a bottom tap for the required size. Fortunately it all worked out, but it was much extra work and confusion, the root causes of which were poor description and no manufacturer instructions.

Saved me $$ and a trip to the mechanic
Even though it states it is a viable replacement for my mower it seems a the plug is about an inch off where it was on my old head, but it still works and comes with a gasket, I should have read that in the description cause now I have an extra, what do I do with all these gaskets?

Great product so far
This was a direct replacement and worked perfectly. Did have to thread a few of the holes but was no problem with the steel bolts.

Nice part, comes with gasket and plug
Two bolts holes needed to be tapped, but could be done with the bolts themselves. Mower runs great, high quality parts.
