Flatten the bumper to remove wrinkles

I got to of these for our dock the first set 3 yrs ago were great. they went on easily and protect the dock great. I got another pair last year and one just wouldn't flatten out. getting it mounted on the dock was a 2 person job. As for protection - for both the dock and the boat - they work great. The small return on the top of the bumper really helps protect the dock edge. our oldest set is about 15 yrs old and still going strong in VT.

VERY Misshapen lots of work and waste

Good brand but...... VERY Misshapen.... lots of work and waste 2 install. PLUS returns accepted BUT 45 bucks for buyer to ship back. I returned because items shipped in coils are REALLY deformed and take much time n effort 2 install. This should be mentioned in the description. AND return shipping should be free if NOT usable or described clearly condition . Thanks

It worked without too much fuss

I was not pleased when I opened the package. The product comes rolled up and looks pretty bad. I was expecting a smooth finish and this has an odd texture. I unrolled it and laid it in the hot sun black side up. by evening it was flat. I rolled it back up the opposite way from the way it was shipped for a short time. It is now installed and looks pretty good.

These are heavy duty and very protective!

I used these on our boathouse dock and installed them myself. Beware that these come rolled up and you MUST place them out in the heat for a couple days before installing. Also, you will NEVER get ALL the wrinkles out as demonstrated in the stock photo but I was able to get them pretty flat/straight by myself and with an extra set of hands, I'm sure would have been easier! :)

Robust

The one constant complaint about the dock bumper is the stiffness. The quality is superb. To overcome the stiffness, I was able to apply heat from a heat gun, which took less than 5 minutes to soften the material and make it pliable. If it wasn’t for this step, I would have given 5 stars for installation.

Good quality but not easy to wrangle

Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty good quality item and is a good investment to help keep your loved one in gelcoat. But the strip is so tightly coiled that you have to wrestle it for hours in order to straighten it, making it difficult to install without wrinkles. My recommendation would be to let it sit in the sun for half a day (preferably in Florida or Arizona in August) and then coil it up in reverse and put it back in the box for a few days in a hot garage. That should help loosen the coil a bit. Or do what I did and fight it on the dock providing much hilarity to fellow sailors passing by on the pier.

Curled up in box and hard to install so it looks reasonable

This item comes in a coil and its next to impossible to uncurl it and install it in an aesthetically good manner. When installed it looks like your 10 year old did it. Hey it can protect the boat but it looks terrible.

how to smooth out

Very difficult to unroll and smooth out and almost impossible to attach to the dock.
