Buy this floor corker, NOT the 2 lever hand corker......
I previously bought the cheap $20 two lever hand corker and wasn't ever satisfied with it for many reasons. So I bought this floor corker and I love it! So SO much better! It is far easier to insert corks. It takes very little effort and installs the corks perfectly every time. For too many reasons to list here, don't make the same mistake I made by buying the cheap hand corker. This floor corker is light years better. The only negative of this floor corker is the possibility of a leg collapsing, as some reviewers expressed. So I decided to address that before using it. It is probably best to mount the corker to a base of 1/4" or more plywood. You can buy a 2' x 2' square of plywood from most big box store, then cut it down a bit smaller (ideally) and mount the floor corker with a screw at each leg. I cut mine down to 16-1/2 x 18-1/2". This will likely prevent the leg collapsing issue. But because it is so easy, I added 2 simple supports which will guarantee no leg collapse. Two 5" long pieces of wood glued to the plywood base. That's all that's needed. They can be up to 1-3/4" wide and still fit up into the leg channel. No need to get any more complex than that in my opinion.

So much better than a hand corker.
Very happy with this item. Originally I thought I'd save $40 and get myself one of those dual lever hand corkers. That was a mistake, so I returned that item and got this instead. I just got it yesterday. The only assembly required is to remove the washer and bolt on the bottom, and replace them with the back legs in place. I only used 3 corks in an empty bottle to adjust the stop nut on the lever arm which sets the seating height of the cork. I then proceeded to fill 24 bottles of mead. I was able to cork all the bottles in 7 minutes. The most frustrating part of the whole cooking process was me being "OCD" over the stamp on the corks I bought all being oriented the same way. I used #9 corks this time which provided some resistance, but nowhere near what I would have been dealing with a dual-lever corker. I'm going to be letting my elderly and semi-arthritic neighbor use some of my equipment to make some wine this summer and I'm fully confident she'll be more than capable of using this corker on her own without assistance. You should be aware that this corker is not tall. If you use it on the floor you'll want a low stool or chair, or to even sit on the floor. It would work great on a counter or table to provide extra leverage pulling the lever down, but it's worth noting there are no feet supplied on the machine. Some felt adhesive pads will prevent maring surfaces. There's also holes on the legs that will accept rubber feet with bolts which will better prevent slipping. In short: this is WELL WORTH the extra $40 or so over the dual lever corker, and provides SIGNIFICANT value compared to more expensive floor corkers.

My first #9 corked bottle
There it is, my first cork insert. Everything I read from the reviewers is true. No instructions, no packaging, the box rattled from the parts. No problem. The devise only has two parts. It’s best to anchor the base of the devise. Anchoring does not come with the item. It’s easy though. I used scrap lumber and 3/4” wood screws. There are probably a few ways to add stability to the base. The reason more stability is better is that you will press significantly on the handle. A long time ago I bought from Amazon #9 corks and thought I could muscle them in. Not true, not enough muscle. I thought #9 was too big, also not true. This devise, see photo, did it. What you see is a #9 cork in a standard 750 ml bottle. It takes considerable pressure on the handle, but nothing broke. The photo shows the cork too far into the bottle. There is a thumb/screw adjuster, and my next one will be flush to the glass lip. I was hugely skeptical. No need for you to be the same. Nothing was broken and no one got hurt. The cork’s in.

Added a "t" shaped base, keeps from scratching the floor and makes it sturdier.
Real tool, not like the useless scissors style corkers. Easy to use and puts the cork the right depth every time.

Excellent Corker
This was our first time bottling wine. I was looking at the cheaper corkers and read the reviews which were not great. Several reviewers recommended this corker instead. It arrived quickly and took only minutes to unpackage and assemble. I don't think that using it could be any easier. So far, we've bottled two batches of wine (probably 70 bottles or so) and once you have the seating depth adjusted, the process is just so quick and easy with this corker. If you're thinking the cheaper one or this one, just spend the little extra money and buy this with confidence.
