Beautiful and Functional
I love this cutting board for both its looks and its functionality. The wood grain and tone are very beautiful and rich looking. Functionally it holds on to the front of the counter with the front lip and prevents spills off the back with the back lip - and it is reversible from fully smooth surface to surface with edge juice / gravy groove. It made a positive visual and practical difference in my kitchen - well worth the money.

Lovely carving board (Kansas City Carving Board)
Not positive how the acacia will hold up but it looks pretty, a little rough in the milled out sections. Using some fine sand paper to knock the rough bits down and then will seal with carnauba (and a heat gun) or some other long lasting oil/wax. Only need it 2-4 times a year so mostly it sits pretty. If I had my way I would have some metal spikes (or removable grip pad like the Memphis board), preferably a removable ring, that would make it perfect.

A bit misleading
This item was a gift to my husband for our 6th wedding anniversary. "Ironwood" gave me the impression that this carving board insert was made of iron. It isn't iron, it's plastic. It's still a beautiful piece. We haven't used it to carve anything yet. Hopefully it works as if it were iron.

Box was broken and item inside chipped.
Great product. Super excited to use but something must have happened in transit.

Gorgeous and Useful Board (5- Stars)
We have a family joke that whenever I cook a turkey, I'm going to leave a trail of turkey juice and fat on the counter due to a carving board that doesn't have deep channels. This year, after a Thanksgiving mess, I decided I would fix that problem in advance. I did some research and settled on this acacia wood board. Wow. The look is gorgeous, and the channels are deep and sloped toward a deep reservoir. The area that doesn't include the reservoir is 13" w x 15" long, but a roast/turkey can overhang the well a little if you start carving from the other end or if you have a turkey. You must treat it with butcher block oil or food-grade mineral oil, so plan to order that at the same time. Mine arrived with some sawdust packed at the end of a couple of grooves that I had to clean out. My husband wanted to take sandpaper to parts of it because he thought it was a little rough in a couple of places, but I saw no need since it's not a piece of furniture. I love the feet on the bottom that raise up the board without making it unsteady. It's attractive enough to carry to the table for carving there rather than in the kitchen. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

easy on my knives, but needs finishing touches
I bought this board after reading a bunch of articles that mentioned Acacia wood is one of the best materials for cutting boards. While I don't regret my purchase overall, there are a few things worth noting before you shell out $80+ for this board.... Pros: - It's a long grain v. end grain board. Research shows that long grain boards are easier to keep clean and sterile than end grain boards. - It's beautiful eye candy for home chefs. - Easy to care for. I oiled it 3 times over the course of a week prior to first usage. Depending on how often you use it, oiling it once/month thereafter should keep it well conditioned. Cons: - Right out of the box, it had a slight warp. It's not wildly noticeable visually, but certainly a board this thick and for this price point shouldn't have that defect. - Finish. Other reviewers noted that the finish wasn't as clean as it should be for an $80+ board. It was planed, but not sanded well. This was easily remedied by using fine grit, then super fine grit sandpaper with my palm sander. However, consumers shouldn't have to complete the manufacturer's job by finishing the board surface prior to using. Final verdict - this board is easier on my knives than plastic boards, but for the price point I expected better quality. If you don't mind putting a little bit of work on this board, then click the "buy now" button.

May be better than our 50 year old irreplaceable board
ORIGINALLY: Much more impressive in appearance and massiveness than photos suggest--but not so heavy as to interfere with utility. Easily handles the juiciest meats without overflowing onto the counter. Some reviewers were puzzled by two of the feet not being out to the far corners on one end. This was done to allow effortless tipping of the board to collect juices in the large well at that end--a great idea. This will likely be the last board I'll buy for my own use, but will be buying more for presents. Excellent value--No reason to spend two or three times as much for a yuppy board. Adding comments after several months of ownership: We returned our original board because the grain lifted after one or two hand washings with mild soap even though the board had been well seasoned with mineral oil when received and after each washing. The replacement board was also treated with mineral oil on receipt and after the first few uses, but on top of that we used board wax and later only board wax. The result is that the board still looks great and there is absolutely no lifting of the grain. We are very glad to have the enormous well for liquids. There is a trade-off in that the area for usable carving is less than other boards but that was acceptable to us. The other drawback is that it is slightly more difficult to make cuts on a grooved surface than a flat surface. The two best boards were this and another that has large, flat cutting area and a wide, deep trench around the perimeter which holds less juices than this but more than any other the same style. The Ironwood has a better price point and is much more attractive. For us this was a very good choice and with proper care will be passed on to the next generation.

Great multipurpose board
Great board that should last a long time. Good for making bread on one side and love the drip catcher for slicing large cuts of meat on the backside. Keep it looking great with some cutting board oil and it should last a long time.
