Easy to use open close

This was somewhat easy to install and has held up well over time easy to open and close can't speak to child safety but grest for keeping dog out of the cat room

Looks nice and not cheap.

The gates were fairly easy to install and they look nice. They keep the baby and the dogs in when they need to be kept in and out when they need to be kept out. They DO NOT fit doorways that are 48". I have one doorway that is 46" and it fits perfectly! My other doorway is 48" and we had to add little blocks to where the brackets are and I wish I would have used 2 long brackets and the wooden blocks (they only give you 1 long bracket per box which is for if you have base boards/molding at the bottom of your walls)

Exactly what we needed

Overall, we are very pleased with these gates. We purchased two. One for the top of the stairs and one for our main living space. Our challenges were, our cat needed a door and we have crown molding. With a couple nifty add ons we got what we wanted. My Dad (who is super handy) cut the wood of one bar and turned it horizontal making a space for our cat to go through. The support stopper at the bottom was too short to support our CM so he added wood dowel, plastic casing and chair sliders, all to extend the height. It was extra work, took two people to install, about 3 hours but we got it done. We did have to drill into the stair banister pole and the decor wood at the stop of the stairs but for the safety and durability it was worth it. The holes can be patched some day. I wasnt sold on the extra accessory sold that uses the zip tie like security. The top of the stair swing stopper works great. Down stairs my LO may be able to slide under but we bought some plexiglass that we can add if that becomes an issue. With a little creativity, these gate’s definitely were a win.

Just what I was looking for!

To begin, I DIDN’T have stairs or door sills to worry about. I needed two wall-mounted gates specifically for my large kitchen island with openings of 48” and 36”. I had a number of concerns: • Color – I have Brazilian Cherry laminate flooring and cherry-stained doors in my kitchen and I wanted something that would coordinate. I was worried about the “antique oak finish” descriptor on the product page, but I can happily say that the finish of these gates coordinates very nicely with my floors and doors. • Mounting hardware - o I first opted for the Evenflo Top of The Stair Extra Tall Hardware Mount Gate, Dark Wood, but when I began to install the mounting hardware, I realized that I wouldn’t have enough clearance under the lip of the counter top to insert the edge of the gate into the wall mount. So those two gates are on their way back to their point of origin. On the other hand, this Summer Infant gate works very nicely! And if I really want to, I can lift this gate out of its wall hinge mount and put it out of sight. I am keeping the wrench provided with the hardware close by if such an occasion should arise. o I didn’t want bulky hardware mounts that extended out from the wall. On this gate, both the wall-mount hardware and release handle mechanism are low-profile enough for my needs. • Two-way swinging gate – I needed a gate with the capability to swing both ways, and this gate does. There are two one-direction stops included with each gate for those who need that safety mechanism. Other thoughts on this product: • Installation instructions were pretty easy to follow. It took me 20-25 minutes by myself to install each of the two gates on either side of the kitchen island. I had trouble fitting one of the gates into its top and bottom hinge mounts; the hinge bolts must be lined up in a certain way. Luckily, I got my daughter to help me out. • The PVC/plastic template provided for the hinge mounts is genius - other companies should follow this lead! • This gate comes with a support foot – a nice detail that I hadn’t noticed before purchase but am glad for with such large openings to span. I opted to put an adhesive felt pad on the bottom of it to protect my laminate floors. • The gate also comes with a bottom latch catch, but my cabinets don’t extend far enough down to the floor to allow me to use it. The handle mechanism (when engaged) and support foot offer enough stability that I don’t miss it. • I wish the gate was a bit sturdier but I understand why it has the give that it does. My openings of 48" and 36" require large spans and unless I had someone make me something custom for major $$$, anything I bought was going to have a similar issue. • Another concern was my baseboard; based on some other reviews, I was afraid I would have to chisel into my 3” high baseboard to accommodate the bottom hinge, but Summer infant thought of a better solution and provided a top wall-mount hinge that extended out a little further than the one used for the bottom hinge mount. Perfect! Now my muddy Scottie won't be able to spread her mess around the house (especially the newly-carpeted FROG) and my kids, my 70yo mother, and I won't be trying to jump over those temporary, pressure-mounted gates that often got kicked over and provided quite a hazard. This product really is exactly what I needed for my application and I would highly recommend it.

Survived a stubborn 75lb dog

It went on easy for me, even though I’ve never done anything like that before and ended up having tricky baseboards and an annoyingly shaped stair spindle. I had to drill a new hole in the latching mechanism that the gate locks into, as the top hole poked above the base of the stair spindle I was drilling it into, still works great. I installed it at the top of my stairs and it’s been great so far. It’s survived my 75lb dog trying to push through it, my dad struggling to latch it in the dark, and me tripping into it. The eight year old figured it out in thirty seconds and had no issues with it. It opens and closes smooth, you pull it back towards the hinges an inch or so, then swing it open. Have managed to open it one hanged while carrying multiple items and the dog pushing against it no problem. I did discard the anchors that came with it and bought longer drywall anchors at the hardware store for like $3. Glad I did. Would absolutely recommend this gate. Looks better than most on the market and has been wonderful for the few weeks I’ve had it up so far.

Looks good. Works well. Wider entrances

Using for more then four years. Had to fix after some parts due to wear and tear. Replaced the original by stairs and use the old one to block another room. Perfect design for my home. Guests find it difficult to use but once you get used to it, it works

Lasted 5 Years

Bought in 2018 and used everyday, until today when my 5 y/o tried to shut it and it completely fell down. Luckily it fell into the hallway and not down the stairs. The wood actually failed at the too (see photos).

Product has changed

Purchased a 3rd gate since we liked the first 2 we purchased at toyrus 7/8 months ago. This gate is not all black as pictured (the old ones are). This is disappointing since they are all visible from one location and we had hoped they would all look the same. Using the baseboard adapter pieces we still had to shim from the wall to make it work which was annoying but doable.

Buyer Beware: Worst experience EVER with item & Seller

This product was absolutely USELESS and the Seller is the MOST TERRIBLE I've ever experienced. Sure, the item shipped on time, but it was FALLING APART upon arrival. I wouldn't trust any amount of pressure to be applied to this so-called "safety gate". The bars were simply inserted into small holes, no wood glue, no screws, just nothing to secure it as a unit. This was before installation! There was also visible aesthetic damage. I immediately requested a refund. Although approved, they sent a return shipping label I could not use (I'm in Canada, they sent a US ground service, not International). I messaged the Seller MULTIPLE times, and they just repeatedly resent the same label. When I explained I was in Canada, LouisE stated that they are in the US and provide US return shipping. If a Seller provides shipping to an international location, they should also provide returns from that location. LouisE is taking complete advantage of their anonymity as a 3rd party seller. I finally got Amazon Customer Service involved, but they said because the Seller is 3rd party, they have their own "policies". This is also utterly stupid because there are NO policies listed on LouisE's Seller Profile that state they will not take international returns. I would NOT recommend ever buying from this Seller (LouisE) ever.

Gate is not plumb, so had to install the brackets on the receiving end off-centre

If the gate was sturdier/better aligned, I wouldn’t be so frustrated with its installation, but it is warped and therefore we had to install the brackets on the receiving end in an out-of-alignment way in order to accomodate it. The kids love to grab this gate and shake it because it rattles. Very unnerving.

Arrived damaged, 48” is a stretch

We bought this gate because it advertised it fits up to a 48” opening. That is the size of our opening, but the product is definitely at its limit there. Looks over extended. Also really disappointed that the product arrived damaged, the box and gate were both damaged upon arrival.

Muy recomendable!!!

Me encantó! Probe varias rejas, pero ninguna se ajustaba a mis necesidades. Esta está excelente porque no solo es corrediza, si no que también se abre toda la reja hacia delante o atrás, lo cual es muy util en espacios pequeños. Otro beneficio es que no tiene una barra abajo, toda la puerta se abre y evita tropezones al bajar o subir la escalera. Finalmente el acabado de madera es muy bonito y se ve mejor que las rejas tradicionales. Definitivamente lo recomiendo.
