Kid friendly brightness settings.

This flashlight really shines when it comes to my daughter's using it while camping. When set on low, it isn't overpowering like some of the other flashlights we own and it stays on low when turned back on. This feature can't be overstated when dealing with small people and high lumen lights. I originally purchased this light as a backup for my van but the kids have clearly found a better use for it. For comparison, this light has a slightly narrower beam than a streamlight strion and a very focused hot spot in the middle that can be annoying for up close general illumination but perfect for reaching out to see at distance.

Used dozen times and dead?

Have Streamlight on all my weapons and for around the house/camping and recommend them to everyone. But the Duracell batteries it came with lasted maybe a dozen short night walks with our lab. Only use Streamlight batteries.

Solid light, amazing focus and throw, nicely "not-a-weapon" plastic in friendly yellow.

One of my favorite flashlights. It is a "thrower". The "HP" models have a large parabolic reflector that will outshine most other flashlights at a distance. I had the older (one mode only) version, and misplaced it, had to just buy the latest version (with "Ten-Tap" programming, a little brighter, and some other changes I get into below) for an event I was heading to. This is the listing for the older model I purchased online, but unclear if they are now selling the newer one or not. (Picture shows the new model in black.) I like the high-performance beam combined with lightweight plastic and high-visibility yellow. The older model had no offensive features on it. For my purposes, want the flashlight to clearly *not* be a weapon, which can hard to achieve with a high-performance flashlights. Unfortunately, with the other changes, the new model has added offensive "teeth" to the bezel and tailcap. I'd prefer not to have them, and they are pretty silly on a plastic-bodied flashlight. I might sand them off. I don't like the new multi-mode ten-tap programming, but it mostly stays out of the way. There is a convoluted method to lock the flashlight into "on-off" mode only. When I'm using this flashlight, I want a maximum brightness spotlight. My one-star off is for the new teeth and not-so-useful programming.

They get stolen before I wear them out. But I keep buying them because they are awesome. Also. Rechargeable batteries are available.

The perfect emergency light

I have been a flashlight nut for a loooong time. For a few years I was hooked on surefire led lights as I thought they were the 'be all and end all' of the light community. Along comes Streamlight and they changed the game! This light is brighter than my surefire for almost half the price! I purchased this one specifically for my wife as she wanted a 'just in case' light for her emergency earthquake supplies. Don't get me wrong, I realize this has a limited burn time, this super bright light is for the initial get out of the house. Add to that it is dazzlingly bright n case you need to use it that way against someone who means you harm, and you have a superb multi-purpose light. The yellow case makes it easy to find and the super bright led is perfect! I have replaced all my tac lights with streamlights. For the cost and the performance, you cannot go wrong!

Best flashlight ever!

Fantastic flashlight; three modes: low, high and strobe (excellent defense use). Extremely durable. Very powerful. Up close and for distance. Bright yellow will not easily be misplaced. Worth every penny. I have a number of these scattered in different places at home, car, etc. Note that Amazon also carries the holster for this item; smart to get one to protect lens. Be careful to get the 88863 PolyTac LED HP...it's the best model currently with all three modes and powerful light for distance illumination. Arrived on time in original packaging. Price great. Thank you!

Brightest light for its size

The batteries arent cheap, but HOLY COW is this thing bright! Ive gotten one for almost every member of my family. I treat it like a pocket sized flood light. With fresh batteries you can identify medium size animals from 150 yds+ maybe 200yds... Its light and compact. If your looking for a defensive light to blind an attacker, this would certainly blind the crap out of the strongest of men. Ive used mag lights, princeton tech lights, a bunch of others, and i continue to be impressed by these little streamlights. I find they are best used when you need extreme bright light for short periods of time. The streamlight tlr-1 is basically this flashlight reconfigured into a pistol flashlight, also very awesome!
