Best paper for charcoal.
This is the handiest block for charcoal sketching. the paper is very durable, and has very good tooth for charcoal. and price wise you can't beat it, especially where I live.

Great quality paper, but don’t like how pages are removed.
Given this is archival and acid free and pricey, you’d think it would be better than a cheap notebook lined pad that you have to rip off from the spiral itself. It’s easy to dent the paper ripping it off. No perforations, no fold over or even glued pages. You have to rip it out and then of course, make a squared even cut yourself. I can see that for budget paper, but not for this brand. Come on Strathmore, you can do better. That’s the reason for 4 stars. I should never assume a quality brand would not make you rip out pages when purchasing.

Quality paper for charcoal drawing
This product has a pretty deep tooth for grabbing the charcoal. Make sure to watch the light value areas, as it can be difficult to remove enough charcoal to really lighten an area. Excellent quality though.

To use charcoals effectively, quality charcoal paper is not an option. It’s a mandate. I suggest cutting the first large pieces into quarters, doing some experimentation, and then working on a full page charcoal illustration… Just to play it safe, atop an A3-caliber-sized light table with a clearly defined of a photograph or illustration to illuminate for easy outline copyimyanf reproduction. Just be sure to keep quality artist’s gum eraser close at hand to clean up any randomly misplaced markings.

Excellent paper, acid free
If you are an artist using pastels, charcoal or other dry drawing materials, you will love this paper. The key difference between this and the 400 series (which I have used and also like) is that the 500 series is acid free paper. This means your art work will not yellow or get brown spots in the future. If I am doing a piece that leaves some of the paper exposed (rather than full coverage with pastel) I use this paper. I am confident that the exposed white will stay that way!

Great for charcoal and pastel
This paper has an excellent tooth and is great for charcoal and pastel. Paradoxically it's much better for pastel than Strathmore's official pastel paper. Much, much better than the 300 series paper which is very amateurish and good for quick sketches. To hold detail you need the 500 series. The paper can hold up to a lot of reworking in charcoal and a very reasonable degree of erasure. My one issue is with Amazon fulfillment. They shipped the pad without packing material in a huge box so it arrived warped and bent.

only 3 white sheets in 24 pages
I bought this thinking that there would be equal number of tinted sheets for each color but as it turns out there were only 3 whites and 6 black sheets (which I dont really need as I draw with black charcoal) for no reason. wished there were more white sheets in there. I think the sheets are randomly picked and bound together.

Llegó a tiempo y en perfecto estado. Este bloc tiene una mejor selección de colores que la que strathmore habia manejado anteriormente, en especial grises y negro. El papel es muy suave y aunque es un papel de poco gramaje al ser 100% algodón es perfecto para pastel.

Más de lo que Imaginé
Strathmore es una marca de excelente calidad en sus papeles, por lo que decidí comprarlo para obsequiarlo a mi Mejor amigo, ya que el Carbón es de sus técnicas favoritas. Coloqué 5 estrellas porque llegó en perfecto estado y 8 días antes de la fecha marcada para entregar, lo que me pareció de lo mejor. Con respecto al papel, trae 3 hojas de 8 distintos tonos de papel con porosidad, lo cual me sorprendió bastante, porque pensé que las hojas serían blancas. Quedé satisfecho, todo en orden. Recomendable.
