It'll work.
First, I will tell you what I liked about this tester, and then, second, I'll tell you what I didn't like. This tester has a nice, loud continuity tone. The non-contact voltage tester is a nice added feature that seems to work very well. Depending on your preference you might like the slimmer body on this tester. I have had testers that have felt fat in the hand, but this one, for me, fit comfortably. I do like the two individual test leads. I hate testers that have one separate lead and one built into the tester. Now to what I didn't like. There is a pastic screw that keeps the battery compartment in place. I hate that. C'mon Sperry, how much did you really save with a plastic screw over a more durable metallic one!?It's cheap and make the tester seem cheap. My recommendation is replacing the plastic screw with one you can find in the hardware department at any big box stores because sooner rather than later you're going to have to replace it anyway. I really don't care for the test leads. The probes need to be longer. They work just fine in a regular outlets, but I also tried to test a 240 volt outlet and it was very difficult, practically impossible to get a reading because the test probes didn't protrude far enough into the outlet. The last thing I didn't like was the system they have devised for mounting the test probes during use and storage. In my opinion it's kind of crappy. The test probes want to slide back down when you are inserting them into outlets. In my opinion it's not a bad tester, but it feels like it's on the lower quality side for the reasons I stated. It will definitely work reliably, but this could be a much better tester if Sperry would improve on a few things.

They Sent Me A New One
Had it for almost a year before the leads have gone bad.It worked great up until then.So it gives inconsistent readings.Sometimes it works and sometimes not..I contatacted Sperry's customer service and left a message 4 days ago.I don't think their going to call back.So I will try again.Tried their e-mail address and its not going through.I will let you know what happens.I own a clamp meter from Sperry for over 10 years with no problems what so ever.I keep both of them in same pouch and they still look new.It's most likely just a defect.I just hope they do the right thing.Even states on their website a lifetime warrenty.Just to let everyone know this not a Amazon problem.It's Sperry's responsibilty.Have to say Amazon has always done the right thing by me if I did have a problem..Thats why I constantly use Amazon.Again,I hope Sperry does the right thing here....O.K. just to let everyone know Sperry did honor their warrenty.They replaced my broken tester just had to pay to send my unit to them.My only complaint after all this is that the process of sending it back to Sperry, them checking it to let me know if they would cover it and then sending me a new unit took almost 2 months.......Would have given them 5 stars if their process was faster

You will love it and never use those older more expensive meters ...
This instrument is the Service repair tech's dream tool!... Other meters you have to turn the dial to the expected current / Continuity / Voltage , or pull out the lead to go from ohms to volts etc... but this device only requires you to push the button and touch the leads to the contacts. - no mistakes! if there is a surprise... i.e... a grounded wire, or open circuit it tells you straight out... and the top has a no contact current checker also. It is the bomb. the price makes it a must have for anyone who works with electricity. You will love it and never use those older more expensive meters that have to be on Ac or DC or Low Voltage or ohms particular settings to get the correct readings! no embarrassing mistakes!

This is the second one of these I've owned
I bought a second one because of how I liked and used the old one. I am a master carpenter and maintenance engineer. I constantly need a inductive ac tester (and also it's a continuity tester) I keep it in a place in my truck where I know it's at all the time. It's the best "wiggy" type unit I have found. Oh and I couldn't find it in any store only at amazon.

The tool works great. But the wire leads are stiff i can see them having to be repalced on the first cold day i use them
