I Wish I Had Known About These Ties Years Ago!

There have been many times when I needed something stronger and more durable than a plastic tie. Why didn't I know about these stainless steel metal ties earlier? Have these always been around or are they something new? If these have been around for some time, then shame on me for not knowing about them! In the end, these ties work almost identically to plastic ties; the difference is that the metal ties use a ball bearing to lock the tie in place. On the plus side, this theoretically means a tie can be re-used: if there is slack the ball bearing could roll back out of the lock position whereas the locking mechanism on a plastic tie is really hard (if not impossible) to "unlock." In practice, however, once pulled taut the tie cannot be re-used. Price is a bit steep (at $0.25 per tie), but not at all unreasonable. They have all the utility of a plastic tie with (I think) no downside (well, one downside; see below). An upside is that one doesn't have to worry about the tie melting in a high temperature setting. Another upside is that you can bind to a much higher load than with (similarly-sized) plastic ties. I do wonder, however, how rust resistant they will be over the long term, but however long they last they will certainly outlast a plastic tie. I use a pliers to pull and set (and fold over a small length to act as a lock), but to get best results you might find yourself needing a specialty tool such as theTonyko® Stainless Steel Cable Tie Tool (which, at $55 or so, ain't cheap!). My tool box's new favorite addition! But the potential need for an expensive specialty tool to best use these ties lops 1 star from the rating. 4 stars.

sturdy and reusable

The 5 inch length lets you wrap the cable ties around about 1.5 inch bundle. The ties are made of shiny metal, the label says "stainless steel" and they are easy to bend to shape. The clasp is a bit wobbly on the tie, when you insert the end and pull it tight, it loosens up maybe a millimeter or so before locking. The ties are reusable - insert something thin, like another tie or a pointy knife in the clasp and it frees the ball that locks the tie. You can then pull out both the knife and the tie strip together out.

it's annoying. Well these straps allow me to secure the ...

I was needing a solution for some holiday lighting, around christmas and halloween time we hang tons of lights up and that includes for halloween a giant pumpkin face that sings through various strings of lights triggered by my computer. In the past I used zip ties however those have had a tendency to dry out and break over the short period I have them outside and at minimum twice I have to restring the lights on the pumpkin face, I know first world problems, it's annoying. Well these straps allow me to secure the lights and ensure the straps won't dry and rot which allows me to string them once and consider it done. Additionally I used these straps on a few young trees I planted, after a recent wind storm the small, thin ties I used snapped and I wanted something stronger that would protect the trees from breaking. Now these are hard edges so you want to make sure they won't dig into your trees trunk, what I did is got a piece of cloth and wrapped it around the strap, taped it and then put it around the tree leaving it with a little slack so that it had room to grow and flex. As the tree gets larger this strap will need to be cut or readjusted which can be done as long as you have a little slack in it, just stick a small screwdriver, razor or anything else small into the locking sleeve and push the bearing down. I like them, I do wish there was an easy built in release mechanism, but they work very well.

200+ lb strength, easy to use....

The media could not be loaded. Whether it's attaching a basket to the kids' bikes, routing cables behind the TV or keeping the underside of the sink orderly, I use a ton of zip ties. I normally use the plastic ones you can get in bulk at Harbor Freight, etc. The problem is, they never hold much more than 15-20 lbs, unless you get the really huge ones. These are the size of the smaller plastic zip ties, but hold 200 lbs. I tested them (see video) Very nice. Cutting the ends was very easy with some end nips.

Resistentes para colocar follaje artificial

Hace poco se cayó mi follaje artificial, el cual colocaron con cintas plásticas. Volví a colocarlo en la malla ciclónica y se nota de inmediato el cambio, comprobé con el viento que estas bridas o cinchos metálicos si aguantan el peso del follaje sin problema, a comparación de los plásticos. Yo lo recomiendo para este uso, la verdad es que se me hicieron bastante resistentes.
