Don't throw away your microwave just yet
If you're microwave has random sparks during operation, check this piece inside microwave before getting new one. This piece in my microwave had burn marks and that indicated issue with this piece. Rather than buying new microwave, which seems otherwise functional, I decided to try this product first, got this sheet from Amazon, cut out the piece to fit slot in microwave with xacto knife and microwave seems as good as new, no more sparking.

Microwave is working again
We have had our microwave for over 15 years if memory serves. Recently, it would flash and pop a lot within a few seconds of turning on. After some research about possible causes, one cause was the plate was dirty on the inside. The microwave gets cleaned often but never thought to take the plate out to clean. I bought these sheets after reading reviews and went ahead with replacing ours. Cutting was pretty easy with a box cutter granted it did cause the material to flake a little on the edges. I wiped down the inside compartment that the plate covers as best I could then replaced the plate. First test of the microwave and all seemed fine. It has been a little over a week now, the microwave is still working great and have not experienced the sudden flashing and popping (usually used at least once a day). Glad we didn't have to buy a new microwave (so far..., it is 15 years old lol) since in the same week we just replaced the dryer, fixed the car for the millionth time, and dealing with ice damage to the house... These sheets do bend very easily as they are of thin paper, along with a couple other materials. Our order came with a small crease on both sheets but was able to cut around it. Hopefully it'll last awhile, but, if anything, it's a temporary inexpensive fix so our microwave can last a little longer.

Easy, inexpensive fix for arcing microwave
My microwave is an Emerson model #MW8999SB, 0.9 cu ft, 900W, about 5 years old. Last week it started arcing (electrical flashes) coming from the waveguide cover on the interior side wall. It was also making a very loud noise. Scared me so much, I was afraid to touch the unit to even turn it off. I turned it off, immediately unplugged it and started pricing out new microwaves. I'd have to spend about $75 for something of comparable specs, features and quality. Then I did a little online research and learned it could be a bad waveguide cover. I checked mine, and although it was clean of any food particles, it did have small scorch marks on it. I opted to buy these mica sheets. I used my old waveguide cover (easy to remove) as a pattern to trace onto the mica sheet, cut it out and inserted into my microwave. Then I tested using a mug of water to heat up for a couple of minutes. My microwave worked fine, no arcing, no sparks, no noise, and the water heated up just fine. $4.35 (plus my free Prime shipping) spent on this saved me a lot of money and trouble I would've wasted on disposal and replacement of the entire microwave. It's been going on a week now and my microwave works as good as new.

Microwave saved.
Inside many microwaves is what seems a cardboard cover for a big hole. This cardboard as it turns out is "mica" and it covers the "wave guide" which is apparently where the microwaves shoot out of. This mica cover protects the wave guide and inner parts, while allowing the microwaves to pass through to the main oven and cook your food. The cardboard cover on my microwave after a few years of being cleaned over broke apart and fell out leaving literally a big hole and some doubts if I could safely use the oven anymore. Ordered this part off the internet and was able to save my microwave. They send a couple large "cards" of mica, which you can then using scissors cut to size to fit into place. They send enough material you can fashion several more covers, which was good as I messed up the sizing on my first cutting attempt. Second attempt went better and I still have plenty material when the next cover eventually wears out. A few months later its holding up great and the microwave is cooking as its supposed to.

Perfect solution for our microwave
These are super inexpensive and just one of them absolutely fixed the issue we were having with our microwave (that means we still have a spare for another time!). We started having some arcing and so the microwave wasn't safe to use. Turns out there was just some splatter on the original Mica Plate that was already in the microwave, and it caused a burn hole and the arcing. If we had known to keep this bit clean better it might not have happened, but it turned out this was the perfect solution. You do have to cut it to size (just keep your old one to use as a template for cutting) so that you can swap it in, but I just used a sharpie marker to draw guidelines and then scored the lines a couple of times with a box-cutter. It was fast and easy to do, and then the piece just went right into the spot where the old one was. I put a cup of water (for making tea) in to test it right after replacing the part, and it worked exactly as if there was never an issue. I am super pleased that we didn't have to buy a whole new microwave and that this $5 (actually 2.50, since you get two!) part could be a solution. If your microwave is arcing/sparking TRY THIS FIRST!

Worked for my microwave although slightly damaged
I bought this after buying a used Microwave that ended up having a very old and damaged microwave guard that needed replacing (microwave was making odd noises and fluctuating). I used the old guard to cut out a new one and it fits perfectly and the microwave no longer makes any weird noises or fluctuations when in use. I used some small scissors I had lying around, id recommend a sharp pair of scissors or a box cutter to cut. This material is not like poster board and flakes a bit if not cut by something sharp or if bent. I also have extra for later use as well. Only CON is that the packaging doesnt do much to protect the sheets and both got bent somewhere along the way. Luckily the bend was in the corner and relatively small so I had more than enough room for my needs. The third image shows the old wave guard that I used to trace the new one and the final image is the new guard installed in my microwave.

Perfecto
Después de haberlo recortado, según la plantilla de la placa original, el microondas ha quedado como nuevo y todavía me queda repuesto para hacer dos más... ¡Y pensar que casi lo llego a tirar el aparato, como inservible!
