Great and easy to use! Unless you are holding a baby!
Received and installed two of these gates today so here’s my initial impression: PROS: It definitely feels sturdy, the directions were easy to follow for baseboard or no baseboard (there is also a helpful installation video in the add) and it looks nice. CONS: If you are getting this gate for a baby gate, it cannot be operated with one hand while holding a baby. You have to push two buttons on one side while simultaneously unlatching the gate to retract it on the other side and vise versa for closing and latching it. I did not consider this fact until I was a almost done installing the two I ordered or else I might have considered other options. I’m going to give it a try anyways since I installed them and I’ll report back with my final verdict. Maybe the benefits will outweigh the cost????‍♀️???????? Update after testing them out 1 week: within an hour my toddler pulled on the mesh and one side came out of the wall. They were extremely frustrating to open and close going up and down the stairs while holding my toddler or baby. All in all it’s a great product, but not if you are using it for a child and not in a high traffic area. Returned them.

Does It's Job
We used this at the top of the stairs. It was fairly easy to install, though my husband wasn't thrilled about screwing it into the posts on either side of the stairs. It's pretty easy to use, but it is not super maneuverable if you are trying to do it one handed. It definitely takes some adjustment, and I think a regular gate might be easier at times. The baby likes it through, he can see through it and likes to push on it. It works with our dogs as well. It seems pretty sturdy, like I said, the baby pushes on it. The dog has scratched at it and pushed it with his nose. I worry about it sometimes because it's does push easily, but overall it doesn't move much even though it can be pushed.

One handed operation, after you take a course
This gate is perfect for the *bottom* of my stairs. I would definitely not recommend this for the top of stairs. I found installation interesting that the receiving side uses almost a dozen screws to anchor it, while the retractable side (that constantly gets pulled and recoiled, only has 4 screws. The hype about being one handed operation is a little borderline as well. You have to press 2 buttons, quickly grab the mesh gate, and then whip it across the opening to get the rod into receiving side brackets. If you aren't fast enough (while possibly holding your little one in the other arm), the mesh gate locks so that it can not be pulled out from the retractable side any further. If this happens, you have to let it retract (since you only have one hand), and then try again. One of the main reasons I purchased this was for the one handed operation. I was a bit disappointed in this claimed feature after installing it and giving it a go.

Not recommended for small pets
Not recommended for small pets! Very nice gate. Easy to install Directions to Follow. The only issue we had was our 14 week old puppy Could go right under the gate. This was do Clothmaterial

Works as barrier for baby but stressful to use
Not easy to open/close without two hands and even then when you go to close it , it makes a winding noise and you only have a few seconds to get it into place before it locks up. It’s a little stressful to be honest. It’s because once you get it into place, it winds up to make the gate tight. I will say that I have cats and they have clawed at it and it doesn’t leave pulls in the fabric which is nice.

This is definitely *not* a one handed operation
This gate looks pretty good, and is reasonably sturdy, but the open/close mechanism is needlessly complicated and definitely can't be done one handed. We've tried everything, and we're replacing it. If you don't open and close the gate behind you very often, it may be ok, but there are much better products on the market. If you have two hands available, you would open the gate using your thumb and finger on one hand to trigger the mechanism, and then your other hand to unhook or hook the door. Just trying it for the first time I realized it was complicated. We had to leave instructions for our nanny and a house guest just to get it open! Not a good sign. Now, the one handed operation. Theoretically the gate CAN be opened with one hand, if you trigger the mechanism with one hand (fiddly when you're carrying a baby), and then, while the mechanism is running, use that same hand to hook or unhook the gate. However, what happens is that when you trigger the mechanism, you have a certain amount of time (10-15 seconds) to hook / unhook the gate. Literally every time you use this gate you're racing against time to open or close it. If you fumble, the baby moves, you miss your opportunity. Then you have to do the same thing AGAIN to close it behind you. Imagine doing this multiple times a day. It's so frustrating. And for what? There are so many easier ways to achieve the same level of security. Do yourself a favor and get a simpler gate.

Wish it worked for us
I really want to love this… This gate was exactly what I searched for. Something unobtrusive, not mainly metal, & that my little one couldn’t step up on and pull themselves over with. The issue I have revolves around how easy it is to pull at the bottom section of the mesh- by pulling it creates enough leverage for my little one to unhook it from the wall. That means the gate is pretty much useless. I’m giving it 3 stars due to the quality and aesthetic since I’m unsure if this flaw is just my own little ones unique ability to problem solve.

Great but not for dangerous doorways
This gate has been wonderful for our living room to dining room door. I wouldn’t recommend it for any doorway that is especially dangerous though. My 10-month-old son pressed on it to stand against it and it flung open and he fell entirely down our basement steps.Seriously the worst day but he seems to be OK.I’ll be getting a different gate that is more reliable for that door, but for simple room to room doorways this is a wonderful gate.
