Needs to be more easy to use.

The item was delivered on time, but it’s very hard to use it. We’ve read the instructions, but we still have a hard time using it. I would recommend this item of you have some sense of using one previously.

Perfect for what I need

This Singer Beginner’s Sewing Kit includes two fabric marking pencils, hand needles, thimble, sewing gauge, needle threader, tomato pin cushion, eleven mini spools of thread, a tape measure, fabric scissors, seam ripper, and dressmaker pins. Full disclosure: while I know how to do it, I am not a big sewer. I sew to finish off crochet projects, sew on buttons, hem clothes – I am never going to sew an outfit or make a quilt. So, for someone like me this is a perfect beginner’s sewing kit but it may not be for others who are more serious about sewing than I am. I really bought this kit for certain bits and pieces – namely the needle threader and seam ripper – and I wasn’t disappointed. Some parts are a bit flimsy – the scissors and seam ripper (they don’t make seam rippers like they used to!) and the pin cushion is on the small side – but in general this kit fits my needs which are admittedly small. If you are looking for a kit for major sewing projects, this Singer Beginner’s Sewing Kit probably isn’t for you, but if your needs are small like mine, you will love this sewing kit!

For the price, it's a great deal

I got this because my sewing supplies and tools were in storage and I wanted to sew up some masks. I bought thread separately because, as a sewer, I knew that the thread that comes with these kids is harder to work with and might not be as sturdy as the standard thread most sewers use. The items work as they should for inexpensive items and I'm very satisfied with my purchase due to the very low price and the usability. I have not tried the thread, but the other items are fine for my use. This would be a nice inexpensive gift for someone just starting to sew but who doesn't know if they'll do it much. Just buy them some thread separately so it's easier for them to do and might want to sew more. The scissors work fine for cutting cotton. They aren't like the costly kind I normally use, but I didn't expect them to be and they worked fine.

Exactly what I needed for small sewing project

I don't do big sewing projects, but small things. I hem my own pants, fix buttons, mend ripped seams on my children's clothing, and other similar projects. When the trolls came and swiped my previous repair kit (Singer Sewing Kit in Storage Box) - it must have been the trolls, because I just used it a month ago and now it's gone - I set out to find a replacement. At the time I was shopping, an exact replacement of my previous kit was almost twice as much as this Beginners Sewing Kit. With a lot more pieces included, I thought I'd give this one a try. And it's perfect. Unlike the small toy-like scissors that come with other kits, these actually work. They're still not in the same class as my Fiskars scissors, but they are sharp and get the job done, with clean edges on the thread. You get several needles, unlike the three that come in the smaller, more expensive Singer kit, and it's a nice variety of thread colors. I agree with other reviewers that it's an annoyance that there's no storage container included, but I have several small containers that I'll put the pieces in to keep it from getting a mess. No big deal. No, it's not a fantastic kit to start elaborate sewing projects, but if all you need is small amounts of thread, some needles, and a few tools to complete very small projects, I think this is perfect.

Better for repairs

This kit is okay if you're not intending to do any serious sewing. I know it says "Beginner Kit", but even for beginners you'd be better off purchasing these items individually as they're not that expensive and tend to be better quality when not placed in a kit. I'd recommend it for maybe a "repair" sewing kit. I bought it when I first got my sewing machine and have slowly replaced each piece in my sewing bag to individual bought pieces that are better quality. I kind of regret buying them all in a kit that is not great quality in the first place. I do still use the measure tape and the pin cushion, because you can't really mess that up. The scissors weren't sharp to begin with and became dull rather quickly. Same with the seam ripper. The "fabric pencils" are nothing but colored pencils that do not mark many fabrics at all. The straight pins bend quite easily. All in all, it's not terrible especially for the price, but if you're planning on creating sewing projects I'd go for something a bit more durable as you'll be replacing the items within the first year of use.

Good components, bad case.

It contains what you need as a starter - or in my case, emergency - kit. The advertised 130 items are 11 different colored threads, 10 needles, two markers, a 60 inch tape, a 6 inch gauge, a needle cushion, a pair of scissors, a very weak needle threader, a thumb protector thing (fits a little kid's thumb), a seam ripper, and the rest are pins. The quality if the components is decent, to be honest, the kit is a life saver if you need to fix a clothing item quickly. Those components though, come in a plastic case, which is completely useless. it is very weak, and barely holds anything in place. And it pops open with a force that will cause every thing to fall out when you try to open it. I would recommend this.

Good for beginners

I bought this kit as I can no longer raid my mums sewing box! It comes with all the bits and bobs you need to start sewing as a beginner or make minor repairs. Only downside is there is nothing to keep all the bits together once you have opened the package.

Beginner Kit

This is a good kit for the very beginner or for the odd work here and there. I had just finished refurbishing an old sewing machine and this was the ideal kit of items to stock the drawers on my unit for doing quick repairs or patching here and there. The scissors are of reasonable quality. The spindles are not very big so if you plan on doing a lot of work you might need to by some more thread but overall a good kit for a good price to get you started.

Not so bad for a beginner sewing kit. I like the scissors and the measuring tape. This sewing kit has been really helpful for those quick clothing fixes with about 11 different color threads. The plastic container is of a cheap material though, so I transferred everything in a plastic box I just recycled.
