A Good, Cheap Palette

It's rough finding cosmetics on Amazon; many brands seem to be knockoffs of others, and I've noticed that some palettes on here are just repackaged and sold under other names. I'm a makeup nerd on a budget, though, and I can't afford the big name palettes quite yet. SHANY is U.S based and is transparent with their ingredients, so I thought I'd give them a go! This is a good palette for someone who wants to experiment with eye looks and get a feel for what their colors are. There's a lot of options with this many colors, and there are three different finishes for the eyeshadows: shimmer, matte, and a creamy shimmer. The palette consists of primarily just shimmers for the neon colors, while the nudes get most of the creamy shimmers and mattes. The pigmentation for the shimmers and mattes is not the best, but if you use a base (like eyeshadow primer or concealer) before applying it completely transforms the colors and they POP. The creamy shimmers give the most color payoff, but they do also produce the most fallout and tend to flake a little. Again, however, that can be helped a bit by using a base underneath your product. As far as blendability, these shadows require a bit of work to blend. You've got to really get in there, especially if you use a base. The variety of shades for each color remedies this a bit, since you can use the different colors to create the illusion of blended eyeshadow. The packaging is pretty basic and I have little complaints there. I personally find the plastic panel in between the palettes irritating because it's hard to bend back, but that's just me being nit-picky. It's there to protect the palettes from each other, and I think that's a great detail to have. The pans are stuck into the palettes and don't knock around or budge. The palette overall can be stored and cleaned easily. I've seen people complain about the pans being "dime sized" or too small, but they're about average and I think the eyeshadows will last a long time for me. Even if you hit pan early on, there's so many colors that it'll take a while to run out of product.

The Smell is Overwhelming

I was looking for a cheaper pallet that had good quality eyeshadow. I wanted one with a large color pallet as the main purpose for this was to experiment with brighter and bolder looks. I've heard good things about Shany and the reviews, price, and variety made this seem like the perfect pallet. I was even able to get it on sale. The product was packaged very carefully and not one of the shadows came at all damaged. the variety was great despite missing some a true deep red. The shadows are shimmery which I love, but I would prefer to have some matte neutral colors. One thing I noticed rather quickly was the smell; a chemical smell like many low quality makeup products have. I have an extremely sensitive nose so maybe it isn't as noticeable to other people, but to me, it's a lot. I havent decided whether I'll be returning it yet. I think I'll try leaving it open for a bit to see if the smell dissipates at all.

Gorgeous Palette ...

The delivery was very prompt; I ordered this item just a few days ago, and I've already received it. One of the quickest delivery times I think I've ever experienced (which is ironic, because the seller description stated that the item usually ships in 3 to 5 weeks). The colors are amazing. Vibrant, but not outrageous. Highly pigmented. I would describe these colors as 'bright,' compared to 'neon.' The texture of the shadows are wonderful; a satiny finish to them. Some have little specks of glitter (mainly a couple of really dark colors), and the varying shades of a given hue are amazing. I haven't used the product yet, but I have a feeling this is going to end up being my new favorite palette (and I own MAC, bh, Coastal Scents, etc.). The shadows themselves are quite small, which a few other reviewers mentioned, I believe, but because the shadows are highly pigmented, I can't imagine that you'd need to use all that much shadow, unless you're trying to go for a really bold, outrageous look. This palette was a bit more expensive than some of the other ones you can buy for the same type of product (minus MAC), but it could have just been the particular palette I found. Either way, if you're a gal that loves the earthy/natural tones, this is the palette for you! I try to play up brunette undertones, and this palette gives me enough colors to chose from to stay in my color scheme, but still offers me some brighter, playful colors on days when I'm feeling adventurous. I have a lot of 'warm' palettes, but most warm/neutral palettes don't give you mauves, burgandy's, warm colors from the red/pink/purple scale. This one does; great addition to any warm/neutral palette! (And those colors are supposed to play up brown eyes! Perfect!) One con though: a few of the shadows were chipped upon arrival. I'm not sure if this was a packaging issue, or US Postal Service issue, but a few other palettes I've received were marked as 'fragile' which I think helped to keep the shadows from breaking apart (lack of being tossed). I think it would have helped if the box had a 'fragile' sign on it, but I'm sure most makeup sellers don't consider that, and like I said, I'm not sure where the damage happened, so I can't definitely put the blame on one place. Anyway, don't hesitate any longer - buy this product! I waited almost a month and half just debating, and I wish I'd caved sooner!

great eyeshadow palette

The way this product comes packaged means its suitable to give as a gift. The product it self is beautiful presented and each layer has a small piece of ribbon acting as a handle to remove the layer from the pan. The colours are about the size of a 5pence piece but are very pigmented as there are 120 different colours it means you can create a different look depending on your mood. For best colour pay off use a primer, if you dont use a primer you will still see the colour on your eyelid but it wont last the entire day. The variety of colours are great too, excellent if your a beginner or an expert. I havent tried to use the eyeshadows wet (I'm not sure if you can) so I cant comment on that. For those of you thinking about buying the bh cosmetics version dont bother, this is an excellent alternative and cheaper too! I would have preferred the lid of the box to have a mirror, just for convience, but it doesnt have an impact on the product at all. Would I repurchase? Definately but I have so many different colours I probably wont need to, but I will be looking at trying some of their other products

I gave this a 4 because it is good and for the price it's a great variety of colours to choose from. The only downside is not as pigmented as a high-end product, but they're not supposed to be, however pigment is really good and I can do a range of looks with it. I also use the bronze shades like bronzing pearls for my cheeks and the lighter shades as highlights, so you got practically every colour here. You could probably use for contouring as well. They do smell a bit like watercolour paints you get when you're young though, so like chalky I guess? Maybe it's talc. Only reasons I gave it less than 5 stars though.

This is a lovely product, not too big so easily transportable and beautiful colours that stay put. Absolutely love doing my eye every day with such an amazing choice. Would (and will) definitely buy again.
