Game changer

This the best communication bicycle helmet money can buy. I bought 4 for my whole family. its amazing..mesh communication system is amazing just press one button and i feel like person sitting next to me . Great noise canceling no matter how windy it is you still hear so crisp.. its bit pricey but great product.

Good but not amazing

I purchased 2 of these helmets in the hopes that I would be able to communicate with the family and be able to listen to music at the same time, assuming that the music volume would lower if someone is talking. Sadly, it doesn't work that way. You really get one or the other. The up side, the mesh works great and has excellent range. The clarity and wind noise reduction is quite good. I've yet to have a problem hearing anyone talking. The down side, while the music from my phone via Bluetooth will technically play while the mesh is on, it is almost constantly muted. The unit prioritizes the mesh, which is voice activated, therefore, any sound that the system thinks it hears will cause the mesh to override the Bluetooth...any sound, a rock under the wheel, wind, whatever. As far as I can tell, there is no ability to adjust sensitivity. For the money, I was hoping this was a complete solution to the problem of riding, listening to music while still hearing the road, and being able to communicate. Sadly it is not. If riding alone, it is a great solution to listening to music and being able to take calls without blocking road noise. If it is used as a stand alone communications platform, it is also an excellent solution. Just not all three. Also, others have commented that the helmet is heavy. It is marginally heavier than a normal helmet. Of course, it weighs more than a competition helmet, but expecting it to be lighter is just ignorant. I find no fatigue and I can carry fewer things. Sound quality is adequate to keep my mind off of the monotony of a long workout ride. Its not going to sound like ear buds, but I didn't expect it to either.

Game Changer

I very rarely write reviews, but felt this helmet deserved one. I have been training for endurance events and 1/2 Ironman races and often go on long training rides alone. I like listening to Podcasts or E-books to pass the time and stay engaged, sometimes music is nice as well. I don't want ear buds since they block the ear, but also can come lose and fall out and don't want to risk losing or breaking them. I have a set of open ear sport headphones that I used before getting the Sena R2 Evo. Those were uncomfortable with a helmet on and didn't quite work out too well. The Sena R2 Evo is awesome for me. It makes my long rides way more entertaining listening to Audible as I ride. It is very comfortable and works great. Having the red flashing light on the back is also nice as well. The phone call and wind stopping mic works surprisingly well if you need to pickup a call on a ride. You no longer need to stop and pull over. The sound quality is not great, but it is more than functional. The music is a little tinny, but then again for the price and size of the speakers, it can be expected. Maybe something like a Bose version would have much better, but then cost 3-4 times more. For what it is, it is great. For individual training, the Sena R2 has been awesome. Another really great feature of the R2 Evo is the mesh intercom. My wife trains for similar events and although we don't get to train too much together, unless we have babysitting, the mesh intercom is awesome. Riding without the R2 Evo, you barely can hear each other unless you are right next to each other. This past weekend, we did a weekend cycling getaway to explore the foliage and some wineries. We opened the mesh intercom and were able to chat for the several hours we rode. The connection is great and works over a pretty long range. The biggest thing I found was that it allowed us to hang out together on a ride in a way that couldn't do before. It was helpful to call out road obstacles and our turns, but really just having a way to casually chat during the ride is well worth the price. I highly recommend for anyone that rides together regularly.

A little tricky but...

We have had them for a few weeks now and they work well. We can communicate much easier now when out riding. We like the helmets but we wish they were more user friendly. As far as the electronics it can be a little tricky to use and get used to.Great product over all, easy to adjust and comfortable.

"What did you say?"

This helmet eliminates the need to yell to my wife that I didn't hear her while we are riding our bikes. We can now be approximately 2 city blocks apart and still communicate. This has brought additional enjoyment to our rides. PLUS I can stream music, take calls, and ours even have Alexa built in! I think it's a little pricey at $229, but a huge sale through Amazon netted my wifes at $108! So overall we spent $237 which is more in line for what we were looking for! Easy set up, easy to use, and highly recommended!

Rec dead helmet! / second one worked

Helmet is completely dead. It won't turn on or charge. No way to exchange it so I have to buy another one and wait on my refund. What a joke. Off to a real bad start here. *Update* Second helmet works fine. Weird issues with volume levels on iOS. If you use Bluetooth for something like pandora and turn volume on phone all the way up it’s not very loud but if you go into the Sena cycling app you can adjust the volume louder, so loud it distorts. Hopefully a future firmware update can fix it.

Good but poor quality strap clip

Really great helmet except strap clip broke and fell off on 2 helmets within first week of usage. I returned and was unable to receive full refund despite returning it within time frame. I ordered another one (this is the 3rd Sena helmet I have purchased for my family because I really enjoy the Bluetooth connectivity) Unfortunately, they sent me an used helmet with a broken strap clip up on opening the box. Very disappointing when this could be a perfect cycling helmet. Not sure if that’s the reason they marked down the price for a $20 less. The description did not state it’s used or refurbished

As good as being on a tandem!

When my husband and I stopped using our tandem the biggest thing we missed was not being able to have easy conversations. These Sena bike helmets have solved the problem. We are currently on a cycling holiday in France. We can chat about important things like lunch and the route. If my husband gets too boring I can turn him off and listen to a podcast. If there's a route discussion to be had either of us can just press the middle button and we are back communicating. On a straight road we estimate the range to be about 300m. It is less if you have gone round a bend and there is something in the way. Because the sound comes from above your ears there is no chance that you wouldn't hear traffic etc. In fact when my partner is behind me I hear cars passing him and am much better warned that one is coming. Finally because of the helmets I am delighted to say that we haven't had any of our usual 'lost in a supermarket' arguments. I absolutely recommend these helmets for anyone who cycles with other people. They are a joy.

More than just a cycle helmet

Not only will this lightweight Sena R2 evo protect your head but the ability to listen to your music via your phone whilst talking to your others via the intercom takes my cycling to a new from of enjoyment. Your navigation system will cut in and out to direct you and then return to what you were listening to. Very easy to charge via USB cable which plugs in at the back. Rear LED lights make you more visible to other road users. So glad I purchased two for my wife and myself.

Excellent helmet to helmet intercom with Bluetooth

Fabulous Bluetooth connection and sound clarity. I cannot find another make which has helmet intercom using Bluetooth and does not need a mobile phone to make connection. Great helmet and very very clear intercom.

Ein sehr gut verarbeiteter Smarthelm

Dieser Helm ist in jeglicher Hinsicht top. Vorher hatte ich einen Helm von Livall und da sind große Unterschiede. Zunächst ist die Kopplung mit dem Handy super schnell gegangen und funktioniert auch immer reibungslos. Der Sound ist vollkommen ausreichend. Kann alles vom Handy übertragene anhören. Der Akku hat mit stets eingeschalteter Musik nach dem ersten Laden über 9h gehalten. Also ein sehr guter Akku. Auch das Gurtsystem ist sehr gut.

Sehr zufrieden

Nun sind wir mit zwei Helmen komplett. Mussten erst einen zurück schicken aber selbst das funktioniert bei Amazon ja sowas von problemlos. Kompliment. Seit gestern ist nun der neue zweite Helm bei uns. Freitag bestellt und am Montagmittag in unseren Händen. Super schnell. Und das wichtigste, er funktioniert wie der erste völlig reibungslos. Schnelle Installation über die entsprechende App und beide Helme miteinander verbunden. Einfach nur toll. Klare, deutliche Kommunikation. Uneingeschränkte Empfehlung.
