Useful, but longevity in question
Having just recently used this on a car camping trip, I'm now pretty confident in thinking you need to have a few of these with you, and these are not luxury items but a necessity. With an RV, you might have hookups for water at your site, but with non-RV car camping, you'll need water for everything, be it basic hygiene, doing dishes, or whatever. These buckets may be small, but the large opening and long strap allow for both dish washing straight from the bucket and shoulder carrying if lugging two buckets at a time. With a few of these you can have a wash, rinse and second rinse when doing dishes. Or have some water available for a variety of other needs. So, while it's usefulness for a backpacking trip is highly questionable, on a car camping trip, don't leave home without it. ------ As a clutz with bad experiences with storage, I have a fundamental dislike of textile materials used in gear. But sometimes, the ability to fold things up and make them compact weigh in favor of the item. This bucket is one such device. When car camping, if running water isn't readily available, using buckets to bring larger volumes of water to where you need it is a real advantage. Whether for hygiene, for use in cooking water, to put out fires, or to wash dishes or clothes, a bucket can be really useful. But who wants to lug around a large plastic bucket or two for car camping? I don't expect this unit to last very long. I'm sure the weight of the water will cause tears or leaks in the seams, and the material is a plastic vinyl that I think is similar to rubber in that it likely contains oil. This would mean that over the long term or with fairly big changes in temperature, it will likely crack and lose it's water retention abilities. But you know, for the low price and real convenience, I wouldn't mind buying one or two of these every year or two. And who knows, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this will last more than two seasons. Time will tell, and if it does, I'll try and report back here.

Quality USA made Water Bucket that is Light and Compact for a Bug Out Bag, Hiking, or Backpacking!
I was looking for a container to scoop up water to filter back at camp. I thought about using a hydration bladder, but that would not be easy to clean out debris. I saw this and decided I would be hard pressed to find a better product to fit my needs. My criteria was: 1. Sturdy 2. Lightweight 3. Good Capacity 4. Compacts down to a small package 5. Stable when filled with water This water bucket can easily meet my needs for being sturdy. You don't want a cheap flimsy product that ends up ripping or causes you to spill the water while carrying it. It is also dishwasher safe, which it states on the label. It seems to be made well enough that it could be mistreated a bit, but I do not plan to do that. This product is pretty light on the scales. Many times sturdy and lightweight do not go together, but I think this product manages both well. It also fits my criteria for capacity. You don't want a container that is so large that you have trouble getting it back to camp, but you also don't want something so small that you have to make many trips. This is a good size for filling up multiple hydration packs and still having plenty left over for dishes etc. You can roll it up or compact it to a fairly small size so it doesn't take up to much space in your pack, kayak, etc. The stability is better than I expected. I filled it up and put it on the table without spilling any water. It can even take bumps without tipping over. After all, if you carried the water a good ways you probably don't want to hold it up or steady it. It can easily be placed for water collection from rain as already stated. I thought it was pretty cool to see "Made in USA" on the inside rim. It is nice to see a quality product made in the U.S. at a very reasonable price.

BEST Purchase Ever!
This is by far the best purchase I ever made. I've kept this bucket in the side case of my dual sport motorcycle, where it withstood six years of abuse (dirt trails, with all sorts of tools and equipment bouncing all over it brutally), and it was always there to scoop up water to keep by the campfire, just in case the fire got out of control. There were times when the weather was a bit dry, and rangers came to tell me to put the fire out. But when I told them about the bucket of water at the ready, and pointed it out to them, they let me slide. So it's been kind of a pass to enjoy a small fire (I've never needed a large fire). But of course, the bigger issue is safety, and being able to really drown the fire when I was finished provided peace of mind. This has also been a perfect leakproof grocery bag when I only needed a few items. Sadly, the bucket was destroyed recently, when I put my bottles of insect repellant in it, to prevent them from leaking inside the motorcycle side case. I think the culprit is Deet, which melted completely through the bucket. But I certainly got lots of great use for six years, so I'm very happy to buy a new one. Now that I know not to allow Deet near it, I might get 20 years out of it!

Multipurpose bucket
We bought this for an upcoming hiking trip and decided to try it out to see if it would work for us. We washed clothes and a few small dishes in it, used it to water plants and then left water standing in it for a couple of hours. Very happy to report that it worked well for all of the above and dried up with in less than 30 min when we reversed and hung it to dry in the bathroom. As it fills up with water, it holds it shape and does not wobble. The strap is sturdy and did well as we carried it filled with water and we only felt the weight of the water as the bucket itself weighs next to nothing. There is no smell to it so we were able to fold it after drying and put it away. Took it out the next day and it still did not have any smell. It came folded in half and is lightweight and we can easily place it in our luggage just the way it came packed. Then we took to the beach and left it on the sand and used it to stuff the wet clothes and the slippers with sand on them. We hosed it off and left it out in the backyard and 10 min later it was dry. It is a good multipurpose bucket that can be used for many purposes even when we are not traveling and for this reason it gets 5 stars.
