Works great on my kayak and aluminum boat
I just bought a second one. I use mine between my sit in pelican kayak and my 12’ Aluminum fishing boat. I will only use the second one on my fishing boat. The first thing I did though was change out the metal cable for 200’ braided line. One reason is it’s easier to cut free in an emergency and the other reason is the metal cable makes an awful harmonic sound. Using the 4lb ball it was hard to troll at 40’ because of the blow back. With the 6lb ball I can hit 65’ no issues probably even deeper. When using this down rigger in the kayak it was a bit tricky to setup. I had to mount the ball behind me enough so I didn’t hit with my paddle stroke. When it was mounted in front of me the swinging side to side made the kayak unstable. In the back no problem. Then I had to stick the rod forward and out to the side so I could see it and still paddle. Getting the ball down is tricky you paddle lower paddle lower basically, but at the end of the day I can troll at 65’ with a $300 paddle kayak and catch trout so I’m very happy.

Downrigger
Overall product is good . I use this on my hobie PA 12 while trolling . The wire that it comes with can be very annoying in the water , makes a humming noise . After one trip out I had to swap it out for braid which is 100 times quieter and feels like less drag when out in water

Cheap yet effective
Simple and inexpensive. I mounted two on the back of my aluminum boat and used with a rail clamped rod holder. I have been using 4# (4 pound) downrigger balls without any issue. That seems to be about the lightest easily available. Since installing I have caught numerous trout using them. Obviously you have to pay close attention to the clutch nut and keep it tight. I put braided line on and never used the steel cable. I used the fasteners that came with the cable and tied them to braided line. Cheap and effective. Very small amount of space used on boat.

Works great for my kayak, but you have to replace the wire with braid line.
For the price I thought it was pretty good for my kayak. If I had a bigger boat, I wouldn't want this as it is a bit flimsy. Also, I replaced the cable with 200 lb braid fishing line instead to get rid of the hum. Overall it's a pretty good product for learning the basics of using a downrigger.

Good fit to small boat
Purchased this for a small boat and it does the job I had expected, good fit to small boat!

Easy install with "Brocraft Mounts"
Very compact and easy to use and store when not in use. Perfect for 17" my Lowe's Roughneck. Poped it into my existing Brocraft holder mount and presto all installed. I only troll 10" to 25" of water so cranking not a problem when resetting for the next catch. Drops about 1 foot per full revolution of the horizontal wheel. Pop it out of mount for safe storage or rotate it 90 degrees for launching and loading. You can't beat the lifetime warranty.

Decent downrigger
Easy to install, compact and can easily be seen on the fishfinder with a 4 lb. ball. I set mine up with dual releases. One at the ball and a second self surfacing from Macks Lures. There is a definite wine from the stainless cable. You don't really notice it if there are gabby people in the boat. Some people have changed this out to braid. All my rodholders are Scotty also.

I bought a second one.
I loved it so much I bought two. I have one for each side of the boat now. I have scotty mounts in various locations around the boat and it fits them all. Drawbacks: I use a heavier than recommended ball at 6# it puts a strain on the clutch some times. There is no cable counter so If you have a depth finder (fish finder) you should be able to track the depth of the ball. I have used it several times and no issues tracking the ball and the bottom - where I fish. It is a bit light weight and with a lighter ball it tracks out at an angle behind the boat. Pros: With cable clip releases I can fish at various depths and troll the surface as well. I usually need a friend to help with reeling in all the fish. it is light weight and portable. When the family is out for waterskiing they stow easily.

Classic Scotty Product.
I have used the Scotty electric and 1050 riggers for many years. I bought these lake trollers for my 15’ Grumman sport boat and they worked almost perfectly for fishing lake trout. The only negative is that they seemed sticky on the retrieval, so I removed the spool and greased the underside of the stainless steel plate with some lip balm (the only thing I could think to use that I had on the boat with me). Then they worked much more smoothly. I don’t recommend using these down riggers if you’re planning on fishing deeper than 50’ as you’ll spend more time cranking than you will fishing.

Had one of these for 10 years
Had one and used it regularly, it got wrecked after a lot of use, handle fell off and I still used it for another season, finally the cable broke so figured it was time for a new one. Compact, easy to use, great for slow trolls on little boats.

Good troller.
Awesome troller for the kayak. Easy to install and easy to use especially for the price point. Time will tell how durable this thing is but for now I’m quite happy with it.
