Hard for 7 year old to lock
This replaced a prior model of similar design with the handle at the end where the opening is instead of in the middle. My 7 year old can open it although it is hard for her but she cannot push the handle down to lock the door in place. Sometimes if she tries real hard and grunts, she can get it to close. I am thinking about squirting some W4 40 down there but I don't want to ruin it. Any suggestions by the seller or manufacturer on how to loosen up the locking mechanism would be appreciated.

Works great.
I have it set up in the doorway of our bedroom during the day. At night we take it down. Once it's set, that sucker is not moving. The only issue I have is the rubber pieces sticking to the paint on the door frame and it doesn't want to release without force.

Sturdy Gate...Hard to Use
This gate is very sturdy and fits wide door ways, but it's difficult to use.

Not perfect
It is not perfect because in order to adjust it to the walls you must set it on its side because trying otherwise doesnt work which makes it hard to adjust. Also I don't know but it tightened on 3 corners not the 4rth. So I'm not too happy about that. I like that it doesn't have long bars but instead it has small holes for puppies not to get stuck in between the bars.

Great for what I needed
I did not need this for a child. In fact it was the opposite. I needed to keep the dog out of the space where the parrots are kept (my bedroom/office) as they are not in their cage until bedtime. Parrots wings are temporarily clipped as the house learns to live with birds (they are still babies) and gets in the habit of front and back doors and other parrot precautions once the parrots are flight trained. But I wanted something to keep dog out so I could leave my door open and something my 3 year old granddaughter could open without help. Until the dog learns to ignore the parrots in general, this was the only gate out of 7 I tried that did what I needed without any major adjustments. I purposefully have the gate just snug enough to close and open and not swing out if not clicked into place. So it doesn't actually need the button to open it. it just slides open and closed. Basically, I simply used less pressure when mounting. I wanted to highlight a diff type of use for the gate in case there is others out there who dont want to keep a kid in or out, but in fact allow even the smallest toddler to open and close like they would a reg door but keep big pets away from little pets until every can live in peace without fear lol.

Read the directions
Was super confused but it's works pretty well once you figure it out. Wouldn't say it's the most sturdy gate

It's better than those wooden ones, even though the wooden ones look nicer.
I like that it stays in the width you had it last so that you don't have to keep readjusting it

Name recognition but terrible quality
I bought this gate because I knew Safety 1st has been a recognizable name in babyproofing so I assumed quality with name recognition. We bought two to be used as tension mounted door-blocking gates to keep my baby out but still allow free access to my cat. One gate broke immediately- the lift handle jams constantly so cannot be easily moved or set up, rendering it pretty useless. The cat can knock the other one over pretty easily. The gate comes with cups you're supposed to mount to the wall for stability but they don't stick and screwing them in defeats the purpose of a tension mounted gate. We scrapped both in less than a month and got the kind with the door.

Used as a dog gate.. its perfect!
We used this gate in an awkward location to stop the dogs from sneaking downstairs.. mounted one side to the wall with brackets on the other side. It works perfect for what we need! Very sturdy, and even our escape artist beagle can't get past it. Very good product.

Difficult to use, baseboards a problem
First, if you have baseboards, this isn't going to work. They've located the bottom bumpers too low, so the gate won't sit properly. Lift it up a bit, we reasoned. But the thing won't lock. It seems to need very specific opening widths or it won't lock in place. We tried fiddling with it, but got nowhere. I have a similar looking Fisher Price gate from the 70s that has spring-loaded bumpers controlled with a simple top handle squeeze. You could adjust the top and bottom independently to account for uneven walls. No matter the opening size, you just slid it to fit, released the handle and the bumpers sprung out and gripped the walls like a vise. This thing is NOT that. Whatever happened to smart design? Take a pass on this thing. I already returned it. I'll be looking for another used one like the perfect one I already have.

great for puppies!
So far this gate is working great for keeping our puppy out of places. We had the same one when we had toddlers as well and it was good then too (but we gave it away when our kids were old enough and we thought we wouldn't need it anymore lol). I had originally bought a gate designed for dogs, made of metal, but the supports for it took up literally half of the doorway, making it hard to fit through. So I returned it and bought 2 of these. This gate lets me have the full doorway to fit through. And it's easily portable if you're not needing it secured to the wall. Once secured, it works well as a swing gate. It is a bit hard to undo the lock on the handle, so that's the only down side. Still a great gate, especially for the price!

Blocks stairs even when it's not properly mounted or installed
Even without properly mounting the gate, it still does what we need. Our rottie-husky mix who is almost 70 pounds just got surgery done for a torn CCL (ACL). She can't go up the stairs for a couple of weeks at least. When we're not able to actively watch her, we push this gate between the railings at the bottom of the stairs to stop her from trying to go upstairs. We haven't properly mounted it to the wall, but it's sturdy enough to stay in place between the railings and to move aside so we can still get around. It does the job.

Poor design
I ordered two gates. One came packaged in a box and the other arrived without so it was dirty and scuffed up. The handle doesn’t function properly and I have to fiddle with it for quite awhile just to get it to the desired extension. I also have to fidget with it when trying to dismantle and retract the gate. When I push the release it doesn’t work properly so I end up rubbing the stoppers against the wall trying to get it off. I’m very frustrated with it and don’t recommend this purchase.
