New model is Made in China; not the same as previous.
If you order this trash can Sold and shipped by Amazon, you'll receive the latest version of this product which is now sadly made in China. As of at least May 2022, the pictures shown on this item are incorrect as they are for the previous, Made in USA version. The current made in China model some changes: They got rid of the holes on the pieces of metal which make up the lever. These holes were there because because with the previous model, you had the option to purchase a pneumatic dampener to turn it into a soft close lid. They newer version gets rid of that, so no soft close option anymore. The foot press pedal no longer has a rubber grip on it. While easily be remedied with some sandpaper, tape, or rubber pad with adhesive, I did not expect bare metal as that was not what was depicted. For what is essentially a pricey yet simple, all metal trash can, the welding and powder coating quality are lacking. Poor quality welds on the bottom piece and body. You can see evidence of poor power coating on the bottom of the trash can, as well as drip marks from a "touch up" done to get the product out the factory. Negatives aside, the red version looks great. The bad powder coating is on the bottom so it isn't normally visible and the worst looking welds (the inner bottom -- the part you see when you remove the liner) will rarely, if ever, be seen so it also doesn't matter too much. It's still a nice trash can overall -- really love that red powder coat -- but now that it can't be made soft-closing, doesn't have the simple, basic rubbergrip on the foot pedal, and is made in China in an attempt to save on manufacturing costs, I'm not sure the value for money is there. Value for money aside, the lid does indeed keep in odors for my trash and its sturdiness compared to something like simplehuman is unquestionable. We have one of those voice activated simplehuman kitchen trash cans and I much prefer this one.

Beautiful trash can, solid. Functional, few complaints.
Well. This is a classic. We bought ours in 2018, and it is still going strong-- a great family garbage can. Keeps odor contained the best of any I've encountered. Keeps out the toddlers, but allows the older kids to operate it. Functionally excellent. Does not like moisture, the enamel will pucker. That has been the main issue after almost 5 years of use. I will buy again and again-- worth the money 100%. Something this thoughtful also demands you consider how much you are actually throwing away. I think if you didn't have kids and were careful this would last 10-20 years or more. Quality, all the way.

UPDATE: After a couple years, one of my cans no longer closes all the way. I cannot for the life of me figure out why. I bought a pair of these for my kitchen, one for trash, one for recycling. These were for a small space that would not work with counter depth cans and I thought most cans with the alternate hinge placement were too curved to look right side-by-side. I also wanted them in white, not stainless. That left me with few choices until I stumbled upon these commercial models. They are square bottomed, so they look really right next to each other. Taking up just one square foot each, these are a good use of space - other 12-gallon cans are curved or tapered, wasting space. And, when you are already spending $100+ for a darned trash can, it makes sense to buy these commercial models, which are made in the USA and will surely outlive any other trash can. I don't expect to be purchasing another trash can as long as I live. As for performance, the retension bands hold a standard kitchen trash bag securely. The rigid plastic lioner lacks handles, however, which I found annoying for the can I am using for recycling, since I don't use a bag and instead pick up the liner to take it out to the yard to dump in my recycling bin. If you don't need a liner at all, you can save with theone without it , but I do not suggest going without it as your bags will tear and get studk. One feature these lack are the struts found in Simple Human cans (such as these that I considered ) that allow the lids to fall slowly. These Rubbermaid ones will slam, although with the rubber gasket, they don't slam too hard. Also, the plastic liner inside lacks handles. Although these are very solid cans, the sonstruction could be a little better - the feet are not exactly level so one of mine wobbles a tiny bit, although that can be adjusted with a pare of vise grips. The weight on these is not overwhelming, but they are probably heavy and stout enough to resist dogs and kids. As the other review notes, the bottom of this can is not fully sealed, but a little silicon caulk will fix that.

A winner !!
Excellent sturdy robust durable ready for action. I installed Bin It - Ultra heavy duty 120 litre XL 80 kg lift tested black bags roll of 10 from Amazon uk and one of these bags fits the supplied liner in my Rubbermaid defender perfectly. Go for the great combo and enjoy !!

Does the job, and looks nicer than a plastic garbage can, but it was quite expensive. The only reason I paid that much is because it's impossible to find a garbage can as large as this that isn't an outdoor container.
