They are cute and durable. you can use them in many different ways.

Love! There are so many ways to use this. I have used it for counting, addition, subtraction, patterns, estimating, to show more or less, sorting. I could go on and on. The penguins are very helpful for teaching. I would buy this again and highly recommend it.

my 3 year old LOVED these, until we tried using them for math :)
The penguins themselves have a slightly rubbery feel which is pleasing to touch. Their faces are the tiniest bit creepy (think: over-smiling clown), but overall very cute. The hole in their bottom is just a little too small for my (big) 3 year old to use them as finger puppets - but she does love making patterns and lining them up on the ice blocks (which really can be connected horizontally or vertically). The booklet comes with a few good ideas for using this kit - and the picture of the blank penguins seen in the photo is the bottom of one of the pages of the booklet (not a separate pull-out), for photocopying. I think this set would be good to use with 2-3 children at a time (but not more than that - despite the 10 blocks - as you would run out of colors). Even just working on patterns with my daughter - where she makes one and then I try to copy and vice versa - sometimes we would come close to running out of the color penguins we needed. If you're buying this for just your one child, I would go for something else though - as the blocks are kinda big and do take up a lot of space (as another reviewer mentioned). We also bought the Learning Resources introductory scale with baby bears for about fourteen bucks and she has enjoyed using that more (in terms of counting/balancing/etc.) in some ways.

Cute math!
The Learning Resources Penguins On Ice Math Activity Set comes with 100 penguins, ten different colors with 10 penguins of each color and 10 plastic rows with an ice look to them that have pegs on them that the penguins to fit on top of them. Each of the ice rows has a slot on the long edge of the row that allow them to be connected to other rows if necessary. Each penguin math manipulative is about an inch in height and super cute. This set can be used for teaching a variety of mathematics concepts, such as adding, subtracting, patterns, sorting, etc. Only negative: we received 11 yellow penguins and 9 brown penguins, so I need to contact the company to see if they can send me an extra brown penguin to make the set complete. Also a few of the ice rows were a little warped and don't sit as flat when connected with other rows, if using individually it doesn't make as much of a difference.

Motivating practice in counting to 100
This is a wonderful set for teaching counting to one hundred and skip counting, especially counting by tens. The penguins are cute, with ten of each color. This provides a very motivating way for children to practice counting skills. The penguins can be easily paired with small number cards to increase the sets usefulness.

My son loves this - as did someone else who took his original activity set.
I had to buy another set to replace one that was stolen by a fellow student. It not only helps with addition, subtraction, and patterns, it's fun to play with.

Very cute
These penguins are great for counting and sorting. There is 10 ice rows that are separated but can be connected. There are 10 colors with 10 penguins each. I have 3 kids who love to arrange the penguins on the ice. Great as a math help or just to play

Fabulous manipulatives
I bought this manipulative set to use with my young daughter who was so bored at school that she was learning very little. These penguins are so fun she could not resist them. The penguins are about 2 inches tall and are made of a pleasant-to-the-touch vinyl type of material. There are ten colors, and ten penguins of each color = 100 penguins. After we've done math with the penguins, we practice counting and colors in Spanish. If you are interested in the coloring strip pictured with the listing, you should know that they provide you with one original as part of the instruction book, and you copy it to make the strips yourself. We are not using the coloring strips, ourselves.)

Not too cool for school
Good for disguising maths as playtime with my four year old. OK she occasionally makes it all about the play but there are intermittent flashes of learning. Our first session was ambitiously about adding to ten but we soon branched out into even and odd numbers (which we conceptualised by checking all the Penguins had dancing partners). A 'cool' little set with lots of potential for fun with integers.

Great for KS1 Maths
I was recommended this product by a tutor on my PGCE Primary course. It is really great for helping children with counting, number bonds to ten and subtraction. You can choose to keep the Penguins in their colour set or I prefer to mix colours to show number sentences visually- for example 6 pink + 4 blue equals what, then turn the ice bar around is 4+6 the same ? I am a KS1 teacher and have found this really useful. Also for subtraction it is easy to count the ice cubes that no longer have penguins on them.

penguins are of very good quality!
great product. good quality, penguins are kind of rubber like, more on the softer side.not hard plastic. they r cute and nice, good variety of colours , gender neutral. it would be gtrat if the instruction included some games to play with it, or a selection of tasks to do with different age group. it is also quiet pricey ,however if you know you will be using it a lot with your child or other kids, it is worth it. my son loves it, we are improvising with penguins , teaching maths in a fun way)
