Solid Enough Toy Drum, Labels Peel easily
This is one of three drums I purchased April 29th of this year to work with our son on some targeted music therapy and habilitation imitation goals. The other two were more traditional hand drums. This one I purchased because I thought it would be most useful for imitation type activities, because I knew the handle would make this one easier for him to hold and keep upright independently. So, day one: He wouldn't touch it. Looked too different from any of his other drums. Day two, he was willing to bang it as part of imitation exercises in conjunction with his hab program. By day three, he was trying to eat the foam ball on top of the mallet. So, the foam ball actually is very easily damaged by teeth, which is nothing unexpected given the substance. It does produce a good enough sound tone for a toy drum, surprisingly good actually. So if you have a chewer, the mallet is one you will have to watch carefully. For now, we are sticking with hand strikes on this one. So when it comes to hand striking this drum, you have to use knuckles and nock to get it to produce a good sound. A flat hand the sound is quite muted unless you strike with finger tips alone. So this is something you can use however you need to if you have a child that is sensitive to sound. So this hasn't seen super heavy use, but we have been using it every day, some for some neurological music therapy exercises targeting his vestibular, and some targeting imitation goals. About two days ago, I noticed the label covering the handle peeling. So there seem to be two labels on the handle. Since the first one was peeling off, and my son's fine motor has progressed enough he can pull of labels and tape if they are starting that way, I peeled it off so he wouldn't try to eat it when I had my back turned. And the designs on the handle are in place via another label, one that is easily squished and moved by my fingers. So I covered it with packing tape. This is a cosmetic issue, as it seems that the handle is a solid plastic tube, so I wasn't as concerned about it for me. But I pass this along in case this is something that bothers you or you would be worried about if you were giving a gift. Now this is the drum he prefers over the hand drums, though I have been using all three with him, I think because of the handle and it being easier to hold. So I find it useful, it seems solidly made, and both my children like it.

Great Sound, Aesthetically Appealing, Perfect Inexpensive Little Drum for Kids,
My daughter wants a full drum set for Christmas. Having become obsessed with the band Recess Monkey and being especially fond of the adorable drummer, Daron, I can imagine what she's picturing. Christmas morning Santa's laid out this huge drum set and by the power of enthusiasm and sheer will, she'll sit down and begin playing - Voila! - just like someone who's been playing for a couple of decades. While I applaud her sweet four-year-old determination, we've learned the hard way that it is often short-lived when it collides with reality. This little drum seems a perfect compromise. The drumhead is a thin sheet of seemingly durable plastic(?) material with a fantastic 3-d lollipop design, which is stretched atop a plastic circle frame measuring between 6"-10" depending on which drum you choose. The larger the drum, the deeper the sound (see comments for a link to a page with audio for each size drum). The mallet is a plastic stick with a foam/rubber rainbow-colored head. When we decided to place an order, we had a hard time choosing just one of these, and since we have two girls we opted to buy both the 6" and the 10". They are quite different in size and in tone, but sound really neat played together, which I love. Both the small and large drum have a deep, earthy, pleasing sound. Although I read this was the case, it was hard to imagine that such a little whimsically-designed drum could produce such a nice tone. I think that although this isn't a real drum set, in the long run I think being able to produce pleasing sounds from a small and inexpensive instrument will have more tangible value, and will inspire confidence and - perhaps - if her interest is sincere, an introduction to learning to play the drums in the future. This is a perfect drum for any child with a budding interest. And by far, it's greatest attribute? It's easy on the ears - just in case they really take to it - the kids won't be chasing all the adults out of the house with it Christmas morning. Highly recommended. Note: For anyone concerned with country of origin & toy safety, these drums are made in China - but seem to have no areas where chipping paint could become an issue.

Excellent Quality
Great quality, well made. My almost 3 year old is beating it up and he hasn't left a mark yet. Not to mention he LOVES it. The best drum for a young kid. Simple and easy to handle.

Eye candy!
The media could not be loaded. I saw this at DD's music teacher's house and I thought it was the cutest drum ever! I am so glad I found this on Amazon! I got the 10" size and I think it makes a very good sound. Both my kids 2 and 8 love playing with it. It's easy for my toddler to hold and drum. It's good quality. My toddlers drags it around and bangs it on the floor but it's held up to all the abuse and looks like new still. The video I've attached is taken after a year of owning it and it looks brand new still. It makes a good photo op too! I took pics of my LO holding the drum and my daughter pretending it's a lollipop. This is in my list of gifts that friends' kids would love.

Good quality drum
We bought this for our 18 month old who is attending Rhythm Time baby music classes and loves banging the drums. Not quite sure what I was thinking when I decided to bring the noise into our home but the bab loves this. It isn't cheap but then again you can tell it is well made and I expect it will last a long time. The bab has put a few teeth marks in the beater by trying to chew it but that's what you get for giving something soft to a teething baby. To be fair they are only little dents and it still plays just fine. It is quite big and fairly heavy so we hold the drum up while the bab whacks it we glee, which is fine as that's just the same as we do at class. Overall, I am very pleased and I'm sure the bab would recommend. 5 Stars.
