Prett Good Gate
I was specifically looking for a 48" wide gate without a trip bar. This was the best one i cound find and it is reasonably priced. It is very secure and tall. My babies will not be able to circumvent it for a long time. Overall, i like it a lot. It took about 10 minutes to install as the side bars have build in level bubbles. Instructions for various installs are super easy to understand and all hardware required is included as well as the various items needed for the different install options. I used my own drill to predrill holes and screw in the screws. You can easily remove and attach the swinging portion as needed. I also like that the width doesnt have to be locked at 48" so that i can minimize the gate's inconvenience when not in use....i collapse it as short as possible and open it all the way, and it stays put due to the center support leg. However, with an improved design, a locking width would probably be best. With the current locking mechanism, it cannot be locked and needs give/slack. There are some flaws that could make this design so much better. Mainly the closing latches. The bottom is a peg and hole design, which is good for security, as the peg is about 1" long, but with baby in hand can be challenging to seat it properly. The top is also a peg in hole design with a pinch clasp. The clasps are super cheap and dont really provide any security other than something more substantial to grab when opening and closing. I do like that there is locking mechanisms at the top and bottom as most are only at the top. However, would horizonal type of latch so the entire gate swing didnt need to be lifted and seated. There are many designs that wiuld work as long as babies cant open them. I have hardwood floors, so i made the center support leg shorter and place a furniture slider under it so it wouldn't leave scrape marks in the wood.

Very stable
Great for using from a wall to a banister. Very easy install with the bubble levels on the posts. Only complaint is the clasp. The top and bottom don’t always want to line up even though everything is straight. Other than that it’s very sturdy and very glad we got this

Very sturdy
This gate is perfect for our stairs. We have the 2 banister option & this is the only gate I have found that works. It’s a little tough so latch but once it’s latched you can feel safe that it won’t open.

Works great but may require some customizing
I just installed the Regalo Extra Tall Top Of Stairs Gate. I would recommend this product to anyone who has a non-standard stairwell and needs to protect small children. Before this product, I could not find a gate that would fit. I found and purchased this after my daughter recently fell down the stairs. In my case, I needed a stair gate that was able to be safely mounted around the moldings and banister at the top of my home's stairs. The Regalo arrived missing the all of the square banister adapters and the corner protectors that were supposed to be used at the top and bottom of the banister side. In order to get this up today, I needed to use the round banister adapters (less ideal) but they do work (see picture with the banister) I will be calling customer service this week but it is too little, too late - I needed it up today. Although the kit came with (6) plastic wall spacers, they would not mount in the correct, ideal, pre-drilled, spots on the mounting pole. This was due to the wainscoting molding on the stairs. I needed to drill the screw holes higher and lower and cut the top spacer to properly fit around the molding (see picture with molding on the drywall). This is not a fault of the product but if you are buying this kit, you need to be aware that you may need to customize the mounting for all but the most standard situations. On the banister side, the actual handrail gets in the way of mounting the mating pole (see picture with handrail). I needed to move the mating pole around to the front of the banister. This was less than ideal, but will work if you do the following modification. You can see in the picture of the latch that I needed to cut off one of the finger latch's "lobster claws" in order for the gate to close and clear the pole's latch hole. This does not appear the affect the locking action, though technically it could be "easier" for a kid to open the gate since they do not need to push both claws. Be sure to have a stud finder (I do fortunately). I verified I did not have a stud directly behind the mounting pole in the wall, so I used (as can be expected) heavy duty anchors. The screws in the kit (and the ones with the separately purchased anchors) were not sufficient in length and width for the anchors, so I purchased 3-inch, #10 screws. I needed to enlarge the screw holes in the spacers to accommodate the larger #10 screws. Opening the gate requires a pinch of the latch and lifting the middle of the gate with the other hand. It works, but is a two handed operation in my opinion. I can deal with this for the safety it provides. I did want to spell out my experience for others who may need to leverage my approach. You should expect that no product will cover all mounting situations and the only true fault here was the missing pieces.

Have you tried to use it after manufacturing?
Pros: - It does not damage banister - It can handle small angled installation Cons: - One strap broken during installation, happily I did not need all of them - The locking mechanism required two free hands to operate. - No autolock. - Locking and unlocking is painful. You have to press hard on small sharpy plastic with strong spring. Guess what? It is painful. - Sqeaks after couple of month use. - Round leg/knob in the middle leaves trace on carpet (not permanent, but I am no sure what will it be after a year of use). - The gate length is not fixable! Each closing - you need to realign it with two hands!.

Piece from hinge broke within 1 year of low use - door keeps coming off
Although the frame itself is sturdy, it is extremely difficult to maneuver and lift/close. One of the hinge cap piece broke off (sometime within 1 year off use, as we did not notice right away). This gate was not used often, nor was it tackled at any point by baby, so not sure how this piece broke. But as a result, every time we lift the gate up to latch it, it comes off both hinges, since the top hinge piece broke (and nothing is preventing the remainder from coming off/blocking it). It's also loud when in use.

Not pretty but so far so good
Dont love it but if it keeps babe from falling down the stairs that's all that really matters. Here is what I think: -It's ugly -Latching it isnt as easy as it should be, a bit of a struggle to get the top to lock again -It would be nice if the bottom had a wheel rather than just the support -Easy installation, we have railing to railing at an angle so we had a hard time finding a railing that would work -If I pull on it it opens up, will see if my baby is able to when they are more intent on getting down the stairs If baby breaks through it and falls I will update.

Tall baby gate
I love that this gate is so tall. Most other gates are much shorter than this. It has kept my son (3.5 years old) until recently from attempting to climb over. The latch can be a little tricky at first to use but my thought was, if it's tricky for an adult to use a toddler won't figure it out for a while. Some latches on gates kids can figure out quite easily. My 10 year old opens and closes it with no problems now. Just takes some time to get used to it. I've had this gate for 6 years and the latch broke and one metal bar broke off at about the 5 year mark and I just bought another one because I couldn't find another one that was as tall. Installation of these things is always a bit finicky but once it is up you're good to go for a few years. I also like that it swings right open in either direction and the actual gate can be taken out if you wanted without uninstalling it. Comes in handy if you are having people over and don't want guests fighting with a baby gate.
