RCBS stands behind their products!
This is actually my second RCBS Universal hand primer. I now own two of them. One is set up for large primers, the other is for small primers. The nice thing about this model is there is no need to purchase or change out separate shell plates when I switch cartridge sizes. I did carelessly drop my first hand primer onto a hard floor and broke the in-feed insert. One call to RCBS customer service support and they shipped me out a new part, free of charge with no questions asked. Anybody in the reloading community cannot dispute that RCBS has the best customer service in the industry. They will take care of you.

maybe just me but it sucked for priming 5.56mm / .223
Why did I buy it? First off, it's RCBC. Most all their stuff is excellent. After some research I went for the universal shell holder feature. It sure sounded good. I had 4k+ of processed "Unprimed" 5.56mm brass. Normally I size and "Prime" in one stage before I trim, chamfer, and debur when using a single stage press. These cases were not primed because I used a Dillon swaging tool to remove the military crimp after sizing and de capping. I'm positive it leaves the primer pockets ready to accept a primer. After the item came in, I read the instructions, watched some youtube users, set up the tool, then grabbed a bucket of 5.56mm brass and a bunch of primers. The tool seemed to malfunction much too often. Some times the cases would jump out of the tool with a flying primer following it. Some times the tool would double feed a primer, stopping the seating. Sometimes the primer would seat like butter. Some times it felt like I was using too much effort to seat a primer. Many times the tool would not seat a primer due to bad primer / primer pocket alignment in the tool. This kept me thinking that the primer pocket wasn't properly swaged until I tried the same brass latter and the primer slid right in. It seemed like there was an alignment issue and if I inserted and held the brass a certain way it would run smooth. Right when I started to get into a rhythm it would jam, double feed a primer, or the case and primer would fly off. Just popping in a case and not holding it always seemed to jam it up. I stuck fighting with this mess and primed 1k cases. Yes, I re-read instructions, cleaned and re adjusted the tool. I wanted to be sure it was a tool and not a user issue. I'm not an ammo manufacturer but I have hand loaded about a million rounds. I wanted to give this tool a fair shot before I sent it back. Some tools require a learning curve, I really wanted it to work for me. I'm not telling anyone not to buy it, RCBS has excellent stuff, give it a try, many seem to like it. I'm probably one of the few that didn't like it for 5.56mm (it's the only caliber I tried). This is not a primer pocket swaging issue! To check, I just primed 200 cases from the same lot on my single stage press. Every primer went in like butter "and faster." Only bummer is that I'm back to priming in the cold garage all alone without a TV to watch, LOL.... Priming in the warm house while in front of the TV was nice..... Might give the Frankford Arsenal hand priming tool a try. Have to admit, My progressive press ran extremely smooth and fast with pre-primed brass. Not crapping on it, many do like it, maybe I got a lemon, maybe its just me. PS, this vender was excellent. My package came in super fast, even faster than the estimated (fast) delivery time.

Great Tool
I'm a long time user of RCBS equipment so when it came time to replace my 40 year old RCBS priming tool I knew what I was going to replace with. The new tool has gone through some innovative changes that makes it even easier and faster to use. I'm very pleased with my new piece of equipment.

My favorite priming tool so far.
I've used a total of seven different priming tools since I started reloading in the 1980s. I've used two different press mounted priming tools, all three of the Lee hand priming tools, the original RCBS tool, and now this. Each has their advantages and disadvantages. Priming on the press gives you a lot of mechanical advantage- maybe too much. Feeding primers by hand (as I had to do with both press-mounted tools) is slow. The original Lee hand tool is hard on the thumb- I can't do more than 50 at a stretch- and again, loading primers individually is slow, even with a primer flipper tray. Lee priming tools require a special holder, too- you can't use the same case holders you use in your press. Lee gear is cheap, but that adds complexity. One more part to lose ;-) The improved Lee tool with a built int tray solves the problem of picking up primers by hand, but I had a problem with the primers getting stuck in the feed channel and then popping the lid off the feeder tray- and it still had the same problems as the original tool: The need for special shell holders and a tired thumb. That led me to the original RCBS tool. Lots of leverage- almost too much. Good feel, primers feed well, and easy to use. Only one real annoyance- the rod that pushes the primers in sits loosely in the tool, and if you tip it over, the rod will slide out and you'll go chasing it around the floor. I used it for a quite a while before I switched to the new Lee Ergo. The Ergo solved the tired thumb problem. It's really easy to use, and has a great feel. But it still has feeding problems and needs a special shell holder. For some reason, Lee decided to design all their hand priming tools to use a special shell holder that can't be used in loading presses. Very annoying. And that led to this tool. It's easy to use, doesn't require any shell holders, and there are no loose parts that can fall out. Instead of swapping primer seating rods to switch between large and small primers, you use an included tool to screw one of two different rod tips into a seating rod that's permanently fixed in the tool. It's a bit confusing at first, as the instructions aren't quite clear, but a glance at the exploded diagram makes everything clear. There's even a tiny setscrew that can be inserted to lock the priming rod in the upright position to make swapping tips easier. (I found it was just as easy to simply hold the tool with the lever fully depressed.) So far I like it a lot. The automatic shell holder requires a small amount of effort to snap a shell into place, but once in place it's automatically centered and won't fall out. If you keep it clean, and put a drop of lube in the appropriate place (the manual explains how and where) it's very reliable. Primer feed has been smooth, and there's a simple gate in this model that allows you to shut off primer flow- useful when removing the feed tray from the tool to avoid spilling primers. If you load more than one caliber, and especially if you load several different calibers, this is one of the best choices in a hand priming tool.

Works very well
Had to upgrade due to a broken classic Lee hand priming tool. I really enjoy the universal shell holder. No more swapping every time I change calibers. The only complaint I have is how cumbersome the process is to change from small primers to large primers. 4 stars instead of 5 for ease of use for that.

square
the tray matches the size of the trays the primers come in. no more chasing them all over the shop because they fell out of the corners of the tray

Excellent quality and function except when putting the lid on ...
Excellent quality and function except when putting the lid on a loaded primer tray it snaps in place which causes some of the primers to turn over anvil side down. Easy to correct but a bit of a pain.
