What was I thinking!?!!?

So, I really like the image. Thought it would look really nice on the wall when done. Yeah, I'm sure it would, but I'm not really a puzzle person. Talk about biting off more than I can chew. This puzzle is way hard. At this point...lots of puzzle pieces seem to be missing...but that could very easily be my inability to find them in the pile. Yeah, I've got the pieces sorted out to quite an extent, but still. This puzzle is hard! That said...it's really cold out and as long as I'm stuck inside, I might as well keep picking away at it. I'll update when/if I ever finish. Don't hold your breath. Update: Finished it about a year ago. Yeah....it took that long of working on it every day from dawn to dusk...and I've also got this bridge I'm selling. Okay, I actually worked on it whenever the urge hit me...mostly during winter. I have to admit, I do like the finished product. And I also want to report that despite my serious misgivings about actually having all the pieces...in the end, everything fit! Those few missing pieces that I just couldn't seem to find...were there all along, but the colors/patterns on the "missing" pieces fooled me into thinking they couldn't possibly be the right piece. In a few instances, I found pieces of exactly the same shape with similar colors...which I had misplaced in the puzzle. I then went on a search to find the "almost" color twin/ shape exact twin. In every case, I was able to then find the piece I had mistakenly fit. That said, I will admit that it is possible there are other pieces put in the wrong color spot. Most likely those are blue ocean pieces where it really doesn't matter much if they are not in the correct location. Bottom line: hang in there. If you're willing to spend the time, you can finish this puzzle even if you are a puzzle amateur.

BIG and challenging, worth it!

I had a friend coming to stay with me for a few weeks, and we came up with the idea of doing a big puzzle, we looked through all the options on amazon and settled on this one. - Shipping, as usual, is super fast! Received this within 2 days of the order. - The puzzle pieces are sealed in a bag inside the box. This is not "dust free," as there was plenty of blue dust being sprinkled on the working surface while putting the puzzle together. - This puzzle is BIG, it measures 60" x 40", measure this out and you'll be having second thoughts about buying this, but then you'll start thinking you want it even more just for the challenge, :-D - The pieces are very sturdy, only one was broken by my partner in a "freak accident." 3 or 4 pieces were slightly damaged out of the bag, the printed side was "flaking" off the pieces a bit, however, this did not impact the final product at all. - This puzzle is hard, not because of the size, but because of so many similarly colored and shaped pieces, especially the water! - I confirm the "2 halves" thing mentioned in other reviews, you can even see the shift of the puzzle edges down the middle line if you look carefully. There were a few pieces that physically fit perfectly in place, but clearly did not belong because of the image/color difference, this made sense after I read about the "two halves" thing. You probably will have to buy/build something to assemble this puzzle on, we had a table that was just too small, so we went to home depot and bought 3 2" x 4" boards, stuck rubber pads on the "bottoms" and placed them on top of the table, it worked very nicely. I would not hesitate to recommend this to a friend who's looking for a challenging puzzle. *Spoiler: there is a youtube video of me and my partner completing this puzzle in timelapse if you want to check it out. Beware - Addictive Rating is High

The Ravensburger 5000-piece puzzle was bigger than I expected. Measure out the 60" x 40" size to make sure you have a suitable place to assemble it. You definitely need a Puzzle Buddy felt mat to help the pieces stick. And additional felt or trays to organize the pieces for placement. Started December 1st and finished 52 days later on January 21st (with a couple weeks of vacation in between). Do the border first. Then organize the pieces by color-coding them. Put these different colors into large Ziploc bags. For example: a bag for white pieces, light blue pieces, dark blue pieces, brown pieces, yellow pieces, red pieces, etc. Then break down and organize the color coding of each bag. Leave the blue 'ocean' pieces for last as we found this the most challenging part of the puzzle, even with just a few hundred pieces left. The bottom of the puzzle was easiest to build, then building up each side, up to the turtles. The jelly fish was one of the easiest to assemble. The last creatures to assemble were the whales, dolphins, manta ray and shark. This is an incredibly addictive hobby. It's a great feeling to complete. Now I'm going to frame it and hang it in my office. The only bummer is one missing puzzle piece.

I love this thing!

This is an excellent product. If you read the fluff about proprietary manufacturing, high quality materials, and so on, you should know Ravensburger is not kidding. The pieces are quite sturdy and don't feel like the usual paperboard at all. The image fidelity is crazy: the finished puzzle measures five feet across and you can still clearly see fish so tiny they take up only a single piece. There is plenty of challenge for veteran solvers thanks to the many areas of uniform color, especially the water. It being a coral reef, there's a simply riotous selection of "this could be pretty much anything" when looking at single pieces. I'm maybe five percent done solving and will definitely be poking at this all summer. Great buy! Also, shipping is lightning fast, I had it in about 36 hours. Assuming you knew someone crazy enough to do 5000 piece puzzles, would make a good gift.

Beautiful high quality puzzle

I got this as a present for my boyfriend's birthday and he loved it! He is a puzzle expert but this is challenging enough. Excellent quality and packaging. So happy Amazon had this product since you don't often see 5k puzzles in stores

This is BIG so ensure that you have enough space and a suitable surface on which to build it. If you like doing jigsaw and you have the space and a suitable surface then I think that you might love it too.

A great puzzle

Good quality. Reasonably difficult. Took between 1 to 2 months to build working on it somewhat regularily. 40" x 60" is pretty big for a puzzle. Have a nice flat space in mind to build it on with good comforatable seating. You wouldnt regret this purchase.
