ProEars vs Harbor Freight
As a shop teacher, I have been wearing these for over a week so I can give these an informed review... ProEars $216 vs Harbor freight $20 electronic earmuffs 85 db shunt... same -tested on a pistol range and in the shop...planer/router/loud equipment etc Comfort: about the same ProEars fits a bit better but is it $200 better... NO Hearing level: ProEars better (they have a mic on each side) harbor freight model has only one mic, so I have a harder time hearing a students question Build quality: ProEars seems better built -but the $20 HF are pretty darn good Battery: harbor freight pair takes AA ProEars takes four (included) N size (I wonder about future replacement costs?) General noise dampening: with unit on or off ... about the same ProEars 30 NRR vs Harbor Freight 24 NRR Volume: ProEars better, separate volume controls for each ear helps with my hearing loss in one ear Reaction time: about the same (shooting range etc) Bottom line... any earmuff with a 85db shunt will be about the same. Recommendations: If an earmuff with a 70db shunt can be found.. .buy them Dual mics are a must Price... choose a middle level muff with AA or AAA batteries and two mics

I can't actually say I like these or not, as I haven't used them yet. They were purchased to replace another pair of what I thought were the same 'exact' muffs - which my son in law pulled apart (now I have independent left and right muffs). BUT I have noticed there is a difference: my originals used a single battery, these use two smaller batteries (per ear).

Headset, Great for the Range!
This headset is one of the best that I have used. The electronics work absolutely flawless and the transition from open air to blocking harsh sound is seamless. A bit pricey but well worth it to have a superior headset and also very comfortable to wear extended periods of time. Can't beat the warranty as well, backed by a very good company located in Michigan. The headset seals are made of a very soft leather and are extremely comfortable and don't allow outside noises to leak around the sealing area. My only negative comment regarding this headset is the use of plastic in the over the head fixture, for this price and quality of the electronics a metal head retaining system should be used.

They did not work for me.
For the price I expected these muffs to be great. I was disappointed. They are comfortable and I could hear normal conversation without any problems. However, I thougt the noise attenuation at the pistol range was not satisfactory. The gunfire was much too loud with them on. I found my basic $15.00 passive muffs were much quieter. I called the factory and asked them if I was doing something wrong. I wasn't. I sent them back to Amazon for immediate credit. I replaced them with the Peltor 7s. I like this muff much better, and it was significantly less expensive.

The Pro Tac Mag Gold noise-cancelling headphone is a quality-engineered, effective, noise-cancelling hearing-protection system. The key to this headphone system is the part you don't see: the finely crafted electronic circuitry that effectively blocks out extremely loud sounds while allowing amplified, high-fidelity quality voice and low-level ambient sounds to be heard clearly and effectively. The money spent on these phones goes largely into the electronics. These noise-cancelling headphones are not inexpensive, but the value-added part of this product is in the reliable and finely engineered electronics.

CHEAP quality, HORRIBLE customer support
I have used these "military grade" ear muffs a total of 8 times. The 9th time proved too much for the cheap plastic headband, which snapped on both sides at the same time while trying to put them on. This happened at my local range, a nearby customer asked me "Are those Pro Ears?" YUP, he had the same thing happen on 2 sets he tried, I was fearful of this part when the set arrived, it is very poorly designed and I have always handled them delicately. What's worse, I tried contacting Pro Ears to rightfully request a replacement of this inexpensive piece of plastic, and they did not even return the message. HORRIBLE customer service. Do not waste your money.

AWESOME!! And yes they are not cheap but...
They really make the difference on the range !!! I have 9mm.40, .45 caliber's and various others. If you intent for use is for riffle shooting/practice, you can . Very quiet and of course you can hear everything around you with no issues. Little knobs on the ear pieces do work as advertised. As you turn them you can hear more or less...your choice. Actually this is my 2nd pair. Very happy.

This is an excellent product. The sound insulation works very well, but for that you could just buy the much cheaper passive version of these earmuffs - or other similarly priced products. What these earmuffs provide is situational awareness and flawless noise protection *at the same time*. This is extremely important if you need to participate in any activity that involves potentially dangerous levels of noise. By using these, you will be able to hear announcements, warnings, and instructions at a comfortable sound level while at the same time enjoying protection from loud, impulse noise sources. You can even connect an external device, like your phone or iPod to these earmuffs. Although the volume of the device and the external sounds can be regulated separately, they are both run through the control circuit and kept within safe limits. Although originally the earmuffs were conceived for use at the shooting range, I have no problem using them in other situations, such as when using a lawn mower or other noisy implements. The use of two separate processors (one per earcup) and the ease of use are excellent qualities for these earmuffs and I recommend them strongly to anyone who needs to maintain situational awareness in very loud and noisy environments. Two thumbs up!

Works as described, great for at the range. I wish they would provide an upgrade for the actual padding as it is thinner than expected.
