Brand:‎Primos Hunting

3.6/5

Best you could ever buy! I Called in 18 MULE DOES!!!!!!
I will always take this with me! So I actually purchased this to help me call in Does nearby using the "fawn in distress" call. Ill tell you what man within minutes of the first time I actually use it It worked. I had 9 deer within 50 yards of me. Sadly It worked so well it caught me off guard lol but on a separate occasion I called another 9 does in off of a Corn field onto a state piece of land. I know this does not advertise to call in Deer but ill tell you what these things come running looking for a fight. Keep in mind I did not practice much before using this. The back of the packaging guides you on how to use it and the directions are phenomenal. Now as far as a coyote caller it works amazing! I called in 10 to 15 this year just taking it out while deer hunting. I only ended up taking one coyote as I was primarily hunting deer, but they were extremely curious. I will be buying more in the future! There is also a big dog caller which is supposed to be even louder than these two pitches. Something id defiantly consider trying in the future as I have a lot more wide open land and need to cover a larger ranged area where I live. I hope this works for you guys!

Decent Call - Takes Practice
I am by no means a veteran Coyote Hunter ... but I am a veteran hunter and a veteran musician. Let's be clear ... you are making music with this thing when it is done correctly ... hopefully you will make music to a coyote's ears. First, this call does take some practice to get used to because of the open reed design. Sorry ... it just isn't a dummy's call. You will sound more like a sick duck that a coyote without some practice. Remember reed tone and pitch is a function of reed length. You will need to learn how to rest your upper lip or teeth on the reed slightly to vary the pitch and tone to get musical texture and authenticity in your calling. That said I was able to call a dog in first time out in under 30 minutes from well over 500 yards (half of that being woods) with this thing. I was really just goofing around at dusk call toward a bordering property where I deer hunt and really wasn't ready to make a proper coyote hunting setup. I just wanted to see if it worked. Yep it works and my wife killed me out of the house with it because the dogs we going nuts. In minutes at the corner fence line I had every neighborhood property house dog howling back at me in a 1/3 mile radius. Then a coyote answered me 20-25 minutes in. He answered a bark and a short series of howls but likely came closer on the initial cottontail distress calls I was practicing. We were "talking" back and forth for 3-4 minutes or so and I stopped calling. Now in all honesty, the coyote declined to cross an open flat of 250 yards to come in closer to the edge on my property with it still being light but I heard all I needed to hear to know this thing will absolutely do the job as a locator, distress and other calls "excluding" anything very dominant. I like the fact that you really get 2 calls in one. Keep in mind the name "little dog". You will likely not be able to make the sounds of a dominant dog with as is this thing but I bet you could with a barrel extension or longer tube perhaps. This covers ALL the distress sounds extremely well from mouse to jackrabbit IMHO ... not sure how to get the woodpecker distress sound yet because I'm not sure what it is supposed to sound like but cottontail will be my choice for rodent distress vocalizations. Howls, barks and yips will of course mimic that of a ... well ... a Little Dog. Veteran Coyote Killers might scoff at this call for something more sophisticated. I like it for practiced beginners to moderately accomplished calling skill levels ... the price is right ... NO CD though as pictured. Watch Randy Anderson with the Primos guys on YouTube Videos ... to speak the coyote language. If you can even get close to his tones, have a decent setup using the wind and have good concealment ... and you don't call any dogs in in 30-40 minutes ... you likely need to move to another spot.

Definitely add this one to your arsenal.
I'd say this is their easiest to use open reed caller. Very versatile as well. With its bigger brother the Hot Dog, for me, it was a little bit more tricky to trail off at the end of an interrogation howl. Trailing off at the end of the howl with the Lil' Dog was a significant bit easier to do smoothly. User tip: For doing the bird distress calls, insert the mouth-piece so the reed is rotated at a 45 degree angle in your mouth. It makes it much easier to "roll your R's" with your tongue while doing the bird distress call. Also be sure to first wet/moisten the mouth-piece, especially the reed, with your saliva before beginning the call. Makes you much better able to smoothly transition from the high tone part of the howl back down to the trialing end of the howl where the tone lowers down a little as you taper off toward the end. I had noticed there were a few times my lips had kinda got a little stuck to the reed from them being dry, before I thought to wet the reed first.

Great call for the price!
Received this call a few days ago and have been practicing, I will be using this in the upcoming season so I cannot say how effective it is in the field. That being said, its a solid call, has good weight to it and feels sturdy enough to carry with you. It comes with 2 mouth pieces, one for loud, far calling and one for closer, quieter calling, but they are both loud, which is good. It has a range of sounds to it including: jackrabbit Distress, Adult cottontail, Baby cottontail, Fawn Distress, Bird distress, pup howl, pup bark, pup yelp, and mouse squeak. My only issue is since its an open reed call, I will definitely have to get some sort of cover or case so the reed wont break off while in my pocket or backpack

Amazing!
To start, when i got these i was an ameture with coyote. First time i used this, my very first call, i got a reply from a coyote. After 4 times back and forth, called a jackrabbit in distress and the yote bolted at me. After the takedown, i used the pup call as a distress and called in a second! These calls truly work. Id recommend to anyone wanting to not waste their breath

Good Call
Sound good, easy to use (I watched the videos) but I am giving it 4 stars because I called in an area twice where I know there are a ton of coyotes and didn't bring any in. Probably my technique, if I get them in on the next go out I will change to a 5 star.

Easy to use
Easy to use. This is my second one and I can't make it sound exactly like the first one. This one seems higher pitched but all in all it's still a good call for the money.
