As advertised
New Tank, seems healthy
Scritto da: Mary
JUST STARTED USING, HAVE NOW BOUGHT AGAIN
Just upgraded my rating to 5 stars, after tentative 4 star rating, now that the product has proven itself! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED . . . tank is crystal, crystal clear after use while adding many new fish over just a couple of days. I immediately ordered it again. This is my new "best buy" for this type of product. **Initial Review** I've used Jungle StartZyme for years, then gave Tetra SafeStartPlus a try. They have worked very well but I was shopping for a better price/larger size for "start-up" bacteria. FluvalHagen is a respected, established name and the product description read better than others I was considering so I bought this. Have only used it once but could see the difference in the tank overnight. I noticed while reading through many of the reviews on these bacterial "quick start" products that many people had negative things to say to the effect that they are useless or don't work . . . They DO Work! The short version is the tank must "cycle" to make an aquarium work properly for the fish to survive and be healthy. No amount of filtration can substitute for the natural cycle of beneficial bacteria that "eat" the fish waste & uneaten food in an aquarium. Bacteria are needed to do that. These "bacteria in a bottle" make that happen much faster, instantly for the most part. I also noticed some users were adding this before they have fish in the tank . . . bacteria and fish work together. There's no point in adding this type of product to an empty tank, the bacteria need the fish waste so they have something to eat! The fish need the bacteria so they don't get sick/die in their own waste before the cycle is balanced. A couple of **hints** for those new to fish keeping: overfeeding is the biggest problem with fish. Do Not feed more than the fish clean up within 5 minutes! It's a lot less than you think. It's fun to feed the fish but every single bit that isn't eaten immediately pollutes the tank and that's what kills the fish. Better a few small feedings than one big one. Do Not put too many fish in your tank, the "rule" is an inch of fish per gallon of water and the bigger the fish the bigger the mess! Don't add all the fish you want at once. Set the tank up, add this product, then add your first few fish. That can be done the first day, you don't have to look at an empty tank but feed very sparingly. That lets you figure out how much to feed while the filter starts to populate with bacteria. If the water stays clear, doesn't smell and the fish are doing good, then you can add a few more fish. Use this "liquid bacteria" per the instructions until you have successfully established the aquarium, then do your regular water changes as there needs to be "new water" in and "old water out, about a 3rd of the volume every month. There's no substitute for regular water changes, light feeding and live bacteria in the tank regardless of the type of fish or aquarium . . . be it a jar with a Betta or a fancy set up full of expensive exotic fish.

Withheld 5th Star Due To Small White Chunks Found Which Aren't Normally In This Product
The first bottle of this product purchased at a fish store didn't have small white chunks. I also notice this product is set to expire within a few months of purchase. Due to the low price point I chose not to return/exchange them.

Accurate
Accurate and much easier to read than a thermometer.

It works!
I set up a new 10 gallon tank with new filter and media. Added 6 medium size tiger barbs and dosed with Cycle as directed for first three days--and then occasionally afterwards. Tested water daily and zero ammonia and nitrite always. Nitrate began appearing shortly after--indicating the cycle was becoming established. The product works, but be reasonable in the amount of fish you add at first. Frequent water testing is a must when starting a new tank--with or without a bacteria booster.

Great stuff, just what I needed to set up a brand new Aquarium
This stuff is a absolute necessity, If you're new to owning fish or If you just want to set up a brand new tank. You need this Beneficial Bacteria to start up the Nitrogen Cycle in your tank and this is the best way to get it. For those who's new to owning fish or who doesn't know what the nitrogen cycle is and why it is important to your fish to keep them healthy, Im going to explain the easy way. Basically What the Nitrogen Cycle is and why is it important to your fish is because the Nitrogen Cycle is the process of GOOD BACTERICA that is introduced into your tank to help lower the Ammonia, Phosphates, Nitrate Levels that builds naturally from your fish, Un eaten food, and its Poop. Ammonia is the LEADING CAUSE OF FISH Death is given out naturally through your fish's Gills or its POOP, or uneaten food. now back to the Nitrogen CYCLE, which is very easy to understand if explained easliy with out all its technical mumbo jumbo.its basically the introduction of the GOOD bacteria into your tank, now your Ammonia, Nitrate, and Phosphate levels will go up, but don't worry its Suppose to do that, so don't go crazy doing water changes or adding chemicals to lower these levels no. The Beneficial Bacteria will do that for you in that case will provide a healthy Environment for your fish because the bacteria will eat up all the bad stuff your fish gives out. now your will have to monitor these Ammonia, Nitrate,Nitrate, and Phosphate levels with a test kit., and simply test everyday until you see the levels go all the way down to 0% once you see that all dropped all the way down then your tank has successfully gone through the Nitrogen Cycle and only then it is safe to start introducing fish into your new tank, as this procedure (Nitrogen Cycle) is only needed if you are setting up a brand new tank that is fresh out the box(if ordered online) or fresh out the pet store.

Maintain a healthy Aquarium
I use this product when setting up a new aquarium (as part of the nitrogen cycle to promote healthy ammonia eating bacteria growth, a 6 to 8 week process) and as part of my weekly water changes. I feel that this product works very well, as my fish are all happy and healthy and I have never experienced any bad water quality issues (ammonia spikes etc). I use this weekly to add to my 200ltr, 60ltr and 30ltr aquariums when I do a water change. I change 20% - 30% of the water volume and add an appropriate dose of this stuff, however it's not really possible to overdose so it does not really matter if you add a little bit extra. I usually do add a bit more than stated on the label. I keep it stored at room temperature and the 2ltr bottle usually lasts me about 6 weeks. There is always a seal covering the opening after the lid has been unscrewed, so you know it is brand new and has not been opened / tampered with. This is safe for my fresh water aquarium inhabitants, of which I have many varieties. Pros: - The larger 2ltr bottle is excellent value compared to the 250ml or 500ml bottles - Quick delivery / repeat orders available - Far cheaper than my local pet store Cons: - Nothing I can think of really I hope this review has been helpful to you. Happy Fish Keeping!

Ruins the cycle
This product does not make your tank safe for fish after 3 days. You still need to do an 8 week cycle but it does help though so worth a buy sp it can be added after a water change. Hence why I only give 4 stars I also recieved 2 x 250L bottles instead of a 500l. I think it is hood because if it's only a small 100l tank. You do alot and it beeds to be binned after 6 months so because it comes in 2 bottles. I can use 1 for the 6 months and then use the other one for the rest of the year. Here is my water results befor adding fluval cycle. There is no conditioner either. It is just plain old water from the tap and after so you can make up your own maind up on the product. I will also put the water straight from my taps down aswell so you can compare. I have come to edit this review. Do not buy it is rubbish. I did everything by the book and her is the full results. This is January 2019 month and this is before fluval cycle and after adding fluval cycle Water testing for tank cycling weeks Before I added Fluval Cycle 13th Jan Ammonia - 4 Ph - 7.2 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 5 15th Jan Ammonia - 2 Ph - 7 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 5 After I added Fluval Cycle 15th Jan (only tested a couple of hourse of adding it for the first time) Ammonia - 2 Ph - 7 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 5 16th Jan Ammonia - 2 Ph - 7.2 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 0 17th Jan Ammonia - 2 Ph - 7.2 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 0 18th Jan Ammonia - 2 Ph - 7.2 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 0 19th January Ammonia - 2 Ph - 7.2 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 0 20th January Ammonia - 4 Ph - 7.6 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 5

Brilliant
Had done fish keeping for many years, then we decided to set up a little tank a couple of months back, this stuff made the tank inhabitable very quickly, if you are trying to setup a tank buy a bottle, If you some times have clouding issues buy a bottle, If you want to add more fish buy a bottle, to be honest if you keep fish and don't own one my advise buy a bottle its so handy fast acting and can be a life saver. very impressed. It will last ages! I would never be without it on the shelf fish keeping now.

Excellent but expensive
Excellent product. My only issue is that Fluval makes so many similar products that it is hard to decide. It would be great if Fluval would publish a list of what you should use, and when.

seems ok.
i used this for a new tank got the impression that fish can be added straight away but i did loose 1 discus fish after 5 days. thank god the other 6 survived.couldn't say weather the product caused it or the adding fish straight away is actually true,i would personally say add fish after 3 days after the 3 day dosage so the bacteria has time to start working.product must of worked though or i would of probably lost everything.but on a new build i would give 3 days before adding any fish to be on the safe side. i only gave 4 star rating because i dont believe fully that you can add fish straight away.
