Subtle and Sophisticated

The Opal Innocence Blue Plate Setting by Lenox is a classical design with a sculpted cup that I find tickles my sensibilities in all the right ways. For those who like a subtle pattern in a subdued color scheme--this is an extremely pale turquoise that would look beautiful against a dark teal tablecloth, this may be the dish set for you. My own personal tastes run a little more flamboyantly, so while the quality is up to the usual high Lenox standards, the color scheme is not 100% to my liking. In addition, the finish on the colored portion of the china is matte--also not to my liking, but for those who like a dish that only reflects the light in the center of the plate, this again will nourish your tastes. The porcelain itself is exquisite. There is a silver band around each piece of the set that prevents putting the microwave--not that you would consider putting such art in the microwave. In addition, they are dishwasher safe. Recommended for those who like a classical, subtle styling with a matte finish on the colored edge. Diana Faillace Von Behren "Buzzard's Eye View"

Beautifully done with an elegant pattern.

Lenox's Opal Innocence dinner service is a high-quality set of fine bone china that's perfect for special meals. The Lenox pieces are a true joy to behold and hold. The quality of the pieces is evident the moment you take them out of the box. All the pieces have nice weight to them and are not brittle or thin. The designs and metallic accents are also nicely done with a high-quality finish that doesn't show any flaws or blemishes. The box they came in was well designed and each piece was well protected in its own padding and plastic bag. None of the pieces arrived chipped or cracked. Lastly, all of the pieces are made in the USA. The design of the Lenox Opal Innocence is very subdued and elegant. The pattern is a curvy vine done in white with a light blue/gray background. The pattern is trimmed by a thin line of shiny platinum on both ends. The design is also done in a matte finish. Overall, these are definitely plates to be reserved for special occasions as they would be out of place on sloppy joe night. All of the pieces are dishwasher safe and they survived a trip through my Bosch dishwasher on the normal setting just fine. Only the teacup was placed on the upper rack. The rest of the pieces were placed on the bottom rack. Two things I felt were worth mentioning: 1) The pattern is very thick on the dinner plate and makes the actual eating area of the plate quite small. 2) The set includes the dinner plate, salad plate, bread plate, and a teacup and saucer, but no soup bowl of any kind, which I felt was an odd omission. All in all... worth every penny.

My first impression is that the dishes feel very solid in my hands and have the sort of nice weight to them that I'm used to feeling from good items. The pattern is pretty and has a nice calmness to it, particularly given the blue color. You should definitely make sure you love blue, of course, if you get these, since you'll probably be using them for a long time. It's a bit easier to get away with redecorating the whole kitchen or making things feel seasonal (like red and green for the holidays) if you have a more neutral plate. While it says that these can be put into the dishwasher, I think I'd prefer to just deal with it by hand rather than trust that. The plates seem like they ought to hold up, but my dishwasher has been known to leave soap residue on things and I think that would dim the prettiness of these plates, particularly the metallic accents. Keep that in mind if your dishwasher (and local water) tend to do the same thing and you're looking for plates that'll handle the dishwasher well. You might be better off with something that doesn't have the metallic accents. None of what I've said is really a bad thing about the plates, though. I like the pattern and the color and design. I even think I remember hearing some news stories that seeing blue around meal times tends to dampen appetites, so maybe these have a slim chance at helping people become slimmer, who knows? I plan to just enjoy them as something lovely that might make dinner into a little more of an event. Though I'll probably have to pick up a couple extra pieces along the way (no bowls in this set, and I tend to use those a lot).

I LOVE this china set!

This is a beautiful set of china. I absolutely love the pattern. The blue around the edges of the pieces of the set is a gorgeous light blue that is almost luminescent. Then there's an elegant white leaf pattern inside the blue border that is raised up from the blue giving the plates a texture that is really unique. To add to the elegance of the set, is a band of platinum that, although it's very simple, just gives the plates an extra sophistication. However, as others have stated, because of the band of platinum, you wouldn't want to put any of these pieces into a microwave. I would even hesitate to put these into the dishwasher, although Lenox says that they are fully dishwasher safe, these are just too nice to trust to your dishwasher. These are plates that are really well made, and made in the U.S.A, which I really appreciate. However, again, though they appear to be very well made, I wouldn't treat them like your everyday set of dishes. Real china is delicate and can be more prone to breakage. Though, again, Lenox promises chip resistance, I intend to handle these with care. The Opal Innocence Blue set of plates are in the higher price range when you compare them to other Lenox china sets. But I think the look and quality of this china set makes it completely worth the extra money. I have yet to show this set to someone who hasn't been impressed by how beautiful they are. So, I really do believe that just about anyone would be happy with this set at this price. I love them, and will hopefully round out my set eventually, a few pieces at a time, because I absolutely feel they are worth it.
