Pfirst time DIYer replacing 910-013 h/c stem
- this tub shower kit includes 2 hot cold stems “910-013” - kit includes 1 diverter stem “910-022” - includes 3 seats “970-500” Price Pfister makes quality bath and shower kits and the parts can be found at Home Depot. It’s great to find a brand that makes a quality item that doesn’t need to be special ordered. It took me a while to figure out what stem and handle I had and what I was going to need. The box for this tub and shower remodeling kit doesn’t explain what item numbers you’re getting… so please do yourself a favor and look at the picture in my review where you can see a photo of the exact items included in the kit. With the right tools you can easily uninstall the old handle/stem/seat you have and replace it with the ones in this kit. I recommend a 31/32” shower valve socket wrench (husky makes one that fits 29/32 and 31/32 in hex valves. Got mine at HD for $8). Also recommend a seat wrench. I like the husky T handle faucet seat wrench. Can also be found at HD for $19.) get some Oatey’s plumber’s putty too and you’re good to go!

Replaced 42 year old Pfister perfectly
The parts seem well made and of good overall quality original Pfister branding. They come with new water valves, a new center shower diverter, new seats and trim kits with the handles. Have a 42 year old house and the old setup had the acrylic Windsor handles that were always getting wet and mold inside the acrylic where you couldn't access without disassembly. The old diverter was leaking out the faucet when showering and the hot water valve would leak from the center when on. Glad I found these. I didn't notice the picture on the front shows the handle shapes these will fit. Look at the closeup of the front of the box. As always when I fix something on this old house there is always unknowns. None of which was the fault of this kit. the kit is near perfect except one faucet is going to turn off and on backwards from what you are used to if you get the cross handles and don't get the levers. Not a problem just mentioning it. Now for the unforseen. The old diverter seat broke into small pieces on removal. The cut outs in the tile wall fit the old setup but I needed to get a Dremel and grind a little more out on all three tile openings to get the trim kit to fit over the new valves. Again not the kit but my wall was the issue. So this is a 20 or 30 minute job at the most and if you have unforseen things come up it may take longer but it's worth it. Great kit and worth the money to update an old house without cutting into the wall or doing any major plumbing.

Know your plumbing
The handles are very attractive, weighty, and apparently sturdy (though somewhat easy to scratch). However, make sure you know your plumbing first. These are designed for specific fittings, they are NOT Universal. They are completely incompatible with the general fittings used in most older homes. If you are sure you have compatible fittings, feel free to purchase them, but be aware that you'll still need to have some general awareness of plumbing, particularly shower pipes. The directions are quite small and difficult to read and interpret. They use technical names only, and the diagrams are easy to confuse. The small indicator lines to signify each part are incredibly thin and imprecise, and to make sure you're doing everything correctly, you'll want to ensure you have more than basic knowledge. Not an easy process. You may want to find a video that walks you through each step.

Updated look in shower and stopped the drip!
Installed this kit yesterday. My wife loves the new look (we used to have the clear acrylic handles that we were constantly having to tighten to stay on the stem, and the fact that they were clear meant you could see all the mold growing inside them), and there is no longer a constant drip. The handles that come with this kit are designed so you have metal connecting with the metal stem, so I expect they will not crack and start to slip like the old acrylic type. The porcelain cross handles feel substantial and don't look cheap at all. I, too, had trouble getting the new seat for the diverter (center) valve in place. The problem is that the new seat slides too far up on the seat wrench I bought. I think this is a problem of the wrench design, but I got around it by rolling a little black rubber O-ring onto the wrench, so the seat could only slide so far onto the wrench, and thus made contact with the threads where it was supposed to screw on in there. All our valve handles used to turn in the same direction to "activate", but the hot and cold water valves in this set turn opposite directions. I don't mind this (will have to get used to it), but you should keep it in mind when installing so that you install each one on the side you want. I couldn't figure out if there's a way to reverse the stem direction on these valves.

Unlabeled parts loose in box
Parts did not fit initially. Spent 4 hrs driving to different hardware stores looking for the part that would let the escutcheon fit the shower valve. Ultimately, while the item back up to return, found a black sleeve that is not listed as part of product. We thought it was part of packaging. Turns out that was the adapter to make it fit. Description and a complete parts list would have prevented this. Ultimately it works. We love the handles design but the install was a historic nightmare.
