Essential Parts for Bathtub Drain Repair (but with Problematic Cotter Pin)
This review relates to: (1) the Pfister bathtub drain plug, with accompanying connecting rods (these appear to be of similar dimensions to the old ones), and (2) the DANCO bathtub drain overflow cover plate with built-in trip lever. The overflow plate and associated spring that retains the trip lever in up or down position are of non-ferrous material, which may resist corrosion (see picture). If the existing parts are intact, they can be removed by simply unscrewing the two crews that attach the cover plate to the tub, and pulling the cover, connecting rods and drain plug out of the tub. If there is any damage, it is likely to be breakage or disintegration of the existing connecting rods--especially at joints, where friction can cause wear. If the connecting rods are worn out or broken, it may be necessary to extract the plug with an old coat hanger wire with the end bent to form a large hook, or some similar contrivance. Be sure to save all the old parts. You may need to use some of them in the reassembly. Several reviewers have commented on diameter disparities between old and replacement plugs (and disparities in height and weight may also be an issue)--this applies to other brands as well as Pfister. Our old Briggs plug (probably 67 years old, like the house) was pretty raunchy, but after cleaning with sandpaper, emery cloth and polish, it looks almost as good as new. The Pfister plug was approximately 1 mm smaller in diameter than old one. It probably would have leaked. So I chose to re-use the Briggs plug. In the reassembly, the biggest challenge is inserting the cotter pin that attaches the connecting rod yoke to the trip lever. This is very difficult (but possible!). The Pfister hardware includes a cotter pin, but it is extremely difficult to get this (already bent out of shape) cotter pin through the openings in the yoke and the trip lever. The DANCO cover plate comes with a new (unbent) cotter pin, which can simplify the attachment of these parts. Note that, once the yoke has been attached to the trip lever, the threaded upper rod should be screwed into (or out of) the yoke in order to obtain the correct distance between the trip lever and the plug. After this is done, the nut on the threaded rod should be tightened against the yoke so as to hold the loop on the upper connecting rod in a horizontal position. This will permit the lower connecting rod to pivot freely where it meets the upper rod; and the lower rod’s connection to the plug should also be at a right angle, for the same reason. Once all the connecting rod connections have been made, it should be easy to slide the plug back down into its operating position. DANCO provides two screws with the cover plate, but these were too long for our tub. So it was necessary to use the old screws, although it would be possible to cut the screws to shorter lengths with a hacksaw.

Bucket Size for Pfizer 972-7110 is posted here
This part is well-made. Although the bucket was too big for my application, I measured the bucket with a digital caliper and am posting the dimensions here in case it helps any of you in the future as you look to to repair your bathtub drain. The outside diameter of the bucket is: 1.312 inches (i.e. 1-5/16 inches or 33.3 mm). The length of the bucket is 1.66 inches (i.e. 1-21/32 inches or 42.1 mm). The bucket on this Pfister 972-7110 part is identical to the similar Lasco bucket part 03-4705 also sold on Amazon. I did not measure the adjustable linkage parts since I am reusing my original linkage parts. If you are looking for a smaller bucket, the plastic bucket on the Plumb Pak PP606-23 has a diameter of 1.22 inches and length of 1.75 inches.

With Some Adjustment the Drain Assembly is Great
Like others posted, the cylinder was too large for our drain. Which is the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars. However, the quality is excellent and when I retrofitted the old drain cylinder with this drain assembly it worked like a charm. No issues with a leaky bathtub drain since installation.

Replaces your bath tub drain shut-off valve.
Perfect replacement tub drain shut-off valve for a 40+ year old bath tub. Make sure you measure the old one because the diameters of the cylinders may vary by manufacturer

Easy to install
This does the job it is intended to do. Our tub once again holds water without needing a rubber stopper. Heavy brass seems like good quality.
