Lovely but too big
I ordered a half a dozen harnesses for my teacup poodle, ruthie, whose 3.5 pounds (adult). I decided to buy Puppia since it’s geared towards smaller doggies, and Pinkaholic is linked with them. So I ordered a bunch, but only one by Pinkaholic as many aren’t available on Amazon in the print and size I want. I know this harness would be a bit warm for the upcoming summer season, but still wanted to order it as I plan to own 2 harnesses. Upon receiving it my doggie was excited, and I was relieved to see that the buckle on this vest is SMALL compared to all the Puppia harnesses (walk in) I ordered which were either xs or small (exception was an older model that had the nice light weight buckle as this one, but will likely return as I think it’s a bit too big, it’s a small. She seems to be right in between xs and small, closer to the xs, and thinking of keeping one of the xs, The thing that I like so much more about this harness Vs all the original Puppia step in harnesses is that the buckle isn’t on her neck (which is anIt her reason why I’m not a fan of the large buckles on a tiny harness, it adds bulk, but it’s also no different to me than her wearing a collar so it kind of defeats the purpose of a harness, as it’s not supposed to me so high up or separated from the harness itself. This Pinkaholic harness has a very snuggly warm cozy material, I can definitely see her being warm in this when autumn comes. It also has the lovely buckle right where the Velcro area is, which makes so much more sense, I’m not sure why Puppia hasn’t done that with their step in harnesses.. But as cute as it is, and I’ll need to give it another try cause she was very excited, but I’m pretty sure it’s too big for her. I tried a second time while it was still on her to make sure I got as much Velcro as possible, but it looked a bit bulky on her, which makes me worry she might fall out of it. It is also confusing because on the Puppia and Pinkaholic website it lists products and their sizes, but I’ve looked up the same items across pet websites and it will give different measurements when it comes to the printed designs they make. I knew this didn’t come in an xs, but seeing that her neck is around 7ish inches or so and her chest is beteeen 10-11 inches, I figured this could still work and it would just be a bit roomy in the neck and chest, but not too much. Also figured that the material would make it more thick so it wouldn’t be as roomy as I thought but I was wrong. I will try it again when she’s more calmed down but am bummed because this was definitely my favorite of all the harnesses I ordered, I just wish it came in an xs. I had ordered a newer “summer” print by Pinkaholic from Amazon that’s on backorder in the same style, I think it said the same size chart, but I’m hoping that maybe I’m wrong and that will run smaller… I think if she was wearing a sweater this would fit, but I am not one to put clothes on her, just a coat when it’s cold. Also I think she’d be pretty hot with a sweater and this on. Aside from that I really recommend because this wouldn’t pull the dogs neck, instead the chest, and it has a very luxe look. I thought of buying the matching leash but think it was on backorder or too expensive and found it for less elsewhere. But didn’t want to order it until I recieved this, and I’m glad I didn’t because I think I’ll have to return this :( Everyone says how the sizing on Puppia and Pinkaholic runs small, but if you actually view the measurements and measure your dog, not go by what their last harness or collar was, you will find out that a 9 pound dog wearing a medium or large that might typically wear a small in other brands isn’t crazy as this brand is just made for extremely teacup doggies. I think a lot of people are giving bad reviews because they don’t like they had to buy something 2 sizes bigger than they normally would for their dog, but if you like the product, then you need to understand this is how this brand runs, and I’ve had trouble finding a nice harness for her (I’m looking into cat harnesses for her as well just because some of those seem smaller), but a harness in an xxs on petco by a diff brand that has cute prints, would likely barely fit her, as it would still be a bit big on her by an inch or two, so please keep Thst in mind, these aren’t made for large dogs. It doesn’t mean your dog is overweight (my last dog was a 10 pound very fluffy Maltepoo, and she would have been a small or medium (depending on if it was a basic or printed harness by Puppia), and this harness she might have been able to fit the small on, but since her coat was 75% poodle and I kept it very poofy, she could have needed a medium (so it’s also important to keep your breeds hair in mind, a teacup Pom that weighs less than my dog might still need a larger size then her because of the hair, and my dog doesn’t have extreme curls, so her hair is in the softer wavy side. Anyways I will continue my harness search, right now the best one I ordered aside from this is the basic Puppia harness a which I got in the beige collar, as it was the only one w brown hardware. That harness would take a bit getting used to, and I feel like it’s not as easy as the step in, since it has to go over her head, but the xs in that seems to fit her quite well. Also I noticed with both the tan version in the step in Puppia, I ordered xs and small, that there was extra material around the front of her neck which I didn’t like. This wasn’t the case so much with the pullover style, and I also liked that the buckle on the pullover style is small. But I don’t love the over the head deal. But I rather be pulling her towards her back Vs the step in version which is way too high up and bulky on her dainty neck. This harness has the best of both but just runs too big for her!
