For now, seems like a genius design for Squirrel Busting, will keep you posted
For Bird Lovers, this maybe a good one. I have a green large yard, and it's fun to see all these birds, we have had some pretty rare ones, but squirrels seem to bully them off and the squirrels eat the feed too fast, of course. I generally keep a small plate for squirrels off my yard, but thats not even a breakfast for them, lol. I have tried few other feeders, that were half the price, but somehow squirrels would figure it out. I have a 100 dollar one that was left by previous owners, and that is now too old to use.. This item is a great price for a great design. Firstly the disc on the top prevents squirrels from their antics. Secondly, the feeder is such that the food can be accessed only by the birds beaks, and the birds have a nice place to sit and feed on their food. Lastly, the hanger is strong and metal based, so squirrel cannot break it (I hope, since the squirrel broke our last one that was a thinner hanger). For now, seems positive. Fingers crossed. I week later: Squirrels gave it a try. Few baby squirrels were able to perch, but could not get the food out anyway. For now, it's only birds, and a lot of them. So far so good. Day 11 I very much like this. This has been most challenging for squirrels. Given that there are 4 to 5 birds at a time on the ledge. squirrel times are reduced. However the squirrel figured it out, when he can get a spot and scare any birds. Reduced to 4 star, hence.

Not squirrel proof but definitely squirrel challenging…
I traded my old column feeder, with a bottom tray and multiple small perches, because the squirrels had destroyed it. After repeatedly jumping on it, they had managed to unscrew it, causing it to fall and dent. I’m using the same bag of Wagners Gourmet nut and fruit wild bird seed. The birds love it. I thought I had a pair of Cardinals, apparently I have 6! I am seeing lots of wrens, sparrows, tit mouses, chickadees. All the birds seem very comfortable on the feeder, whether they are hanging or sitting. The white wing doves are a little too comfortable, but don’t seem to be scarfing down all the food. As I said, not squirrel proof. But while the squirrels can get on the feeder, it seems to take a lot more effort for them, and they are not constantly hanging off the feeder.

Not really squirrel proof
It took about 15 minutes for the squirrels to show up. There’s nothing special about this feeder, but it does the job.

Sturdy
I really like this bird feeder. The squirrels can't tear it up. However, I do bring it in at night because of the racoons.

Our squirrel loves it.
Our Squirrels and Cardinals love it with the really small (cheap) sunflower seeds. It keeps the squirrels from messing with the other feeders. We had one for years, it was crushed by a several hundred pound tree limb during the last ice storm. We immediately reordered a new one. Very very pleased.

Okay feeder but not for cardinals
I wanted to like this feeder so much. I tried everything (like moving it further away from the house...and hence us humans) but the very timid cardinals in my neighborhood wanted nothing to do with it. Maybe it was the doves that "chase" the cardinals away. The doves with their comparatively bigger size and those unmistakable "throat chirping" (my words) and wing flapping/landing "noises" doesn't endear them to any other bird. I don't know why but the cardinals did not and would not use this feeder. I've decided to use this feeder in the winter simply because it is so "pretty" and will look cheerful...especially against a snowy winter background. I will use an inexpensive weather "dome" to help keep the seed (I will use this feeder for a mix of C&S pellets and seed) from getting wet. btw - C&S pellets are so much easier to provide the suet that wintering birds need. Woodlink makes a very nice metal weather protector. Aspect's clear plastic domes are great and the price is reasonable. Make sure to take the "hanging accessories" out of the box, if you order any of the weather (aka squirrel baffles ...does the same thing) protectors. Too often "helpful" hands around my house have pitched them (never "moi" - lol) with the box. That's why I keep a supply of different size hangers, hooks and chains in my backporch cabinet. Of course, peanuts and other nuts will not fit through the mesh. That is clearly evident in the photos. As a basic black oil sunflower and/or safflower feeder, it's fine. You can even use those awful blends (with so much filler....and waste) you find in your local grocery store. The little birds love this feeder. Even the darn doves figured out how to land sideways on the edge. Sorry, purists. I cannot tolerate doves around my feeders. They aren't bullies like the starlings or grackles but because of their size (and noisy arrival) they scare away the smaller birds. I have several weight sensitive feeders (intended for squirrels). These are wonderful at keeping the heavier/bigger birds from taking over. The doves don't mind ground feeding at all...and get their fill searching the ground below the feeders....just as most birds will...even cardinals. In the winter, I use "seed hoops" (Innovations and Songbird Essentials both have good products...I call them "seed savers") to make it easier for the birds to find all of the seed (doesn't get so readily buried in the snow). I feed the squirrels, too, but they have their own feeding station. The chipmunks eat whenever, wherever and whatever (lol) they wish. They will chew through most any hard plastic (even Tupperware and Rubbermaid but polycarbonate is tougher for them) to get to seed...so save yourself some trouble...spray the hot pepper spray on the outside of those containers if left outside during the winter (which you should do as birdseed is the most normal route for pantry pests to get into your home....that and pet food).I use hot pepper flakes and watered down "hot sauce" to keep mammals out of our bird seed but save some seed just for our funny backyard clowns. btw - birds don't have taste buds as we mammals do. And squirrels and chipmunks are after all mammals. That's why hot pepper flakes and sprays are great for keeping squirrels out of your feeders. You really don't need to spend mucho bucks for those fancy feeders to keep the smartest critters in the neighborhod out of your bird seed. They WILL find a way no matter what you spend. However, it is a hoot watching their antics. The best and most expensive "squirrel proof" feeders are a challenge to these acrobatic Einsteins. It may take a while...but they figure out a way to get to that seed. Just invest in some inexpensive red hot pepper flakes, sprays etc. So much cheaper. I have a special area just for the blue jays, too. They love unshelled, unsalted roasted peanuts. I finally found a way to rig a hanging platform feeder with a plastic dome low enough to keep out doves etc but allows the cardinals access. I even made use of a heavier clear plastic (saved from some packaging....it's as heavy as that used on many packaged products.....you know.... nearly impossible to remove without a chain saw) around one corner to keep access (those darn doves again) One more hint....for you gardeners. Alvin and family (our resident chipmunks) love our spring bulbs.Yummy...must make a nice change from birdseed and nuts. However, they hate hot pepper. When I plant new bulbs, I spray them with the diluted hot pepper sauce (buy the liquid intended for this right here on Amazon) and then sprinkle some hot pepper flakes (from the local supermarket) in with your new bulbs. Alvin and his family doesn't bother with my bulbs anymore. I hope some of my ramblings have helped someone. People say I talked too much. Heck, I write too much, too.Sooooooo!

Attractive feeder.
This is my third purchase of this feeder. It’s quite attractive and the cardinals like it. However, I live in South Florida and it doesn’t hold up for more than a couple of years in this weather. Gets corroded too fast, but l like it so just replace.

Many birds can feed at same time.
I bought this feeder because it is all metal-which I prefer over plastic feeders. Metal is easy to keep clean and the metal mesh sides allow air flow so seeds do not get moldy. This feeder has a large ring around the base and many birds can perch at once and feed all the way around it. The ring has tiny drainage holes as well. The roof is nice and wide so I do not need to buy a separate weather baffle to put over it. The top part has a metal disk with two pins that you slide back-so you fill it from the top and it closes the disk in place. No squirrels will be able to open it. The mesh is large, so fill this with black oil (shell on) sunflower seeds or shelled sunflower or safflower seeds. You could not use this for small feed like millet/cracked corn/nyger etc. -the small seeds will fall right through. The only drawbacks to the feeder are 1)- when the seed gets too low and the birds have eaten all they can reach from the perch or clinging to the mesh-there is still lots of seed piled in the center "teasing" them-they cant reach it, especially cardinals with their short beaks. When I see this has happened, I just pour the remaining seed out onto the ground or onto a platform feeder for the ground feeding birds to enjoy. So I am not sure why this is called a Cardinal feeder and I am refilling this more often than I anticipated. 2) When empty, the feeder completely collapses down-so it is a little tricky to keep the mesh raised, prop open the top disk and hold your bag of feed in the other hand to pour. It is easier to fill this feeder while it is still hanging and use a scoop to pour seed into the top. But overall, I like that it is all metal, a wide variety of birds are using it and it is a very good price.

.well made but useless.
Fantastic, good solid piece of kit but holes to big for the seeds, as fast as you fill it the seeds fall straight out so it's sitting back in the bird food cupboard because I have five other feeders already with fresh water feeder aswell.

Waste of money
It is certainly not squirrel proof and the bottom tray just lets seeds fall through. Even taping it up to just have the little perches hasn’t enticed the birds to use it. Just the squirrel who puts his back legs on the handle and hangs down to eat what he can. Waste of money would certainly not recommend this.
