Smaller than advertise
This product is good, but it's smaller than advertise - does not stretch.

Well made, some good thought behind them.
I work on boats and bikes where shorts are approved for duty, so this review is as much to do with placement of features as it is with the quality. First and foremost, these shorts are great quality for the price. They are made with heavy weight ripstop material. The inseam is 9 inches. I measured them and this fact is also stated on the company website. I like the pockets, particularly the "phone" or magazine pocket placement, because it does not overlap the cargo pocket. Speaking of pockets, the front pockets have a thick, well sewn and textured fabric that will keep a pocket holster from rotating and flipping around. They are also large and deep. I buy a couple sizes up to carry IWB and the elastic band is a nice feature for this. It makes them wearable without a belt if I am not carrying IWB, but the waist opens up nicely when I am. My dislikes are as follows: - Two hook and loop closures on the cargo pockets make one-handed access difficult- and loud. - Too long of an inseam at 9" and leg openings are huge. Most people would think this statement is crazy. I purchased a 36" waist so I can carry IWB. This cut as a 5'7" person makes for a LOT of extra leg room and the shorts cover my knees when standing. The extra fabric just means more to get caught up on the boats or bike so I may see if a tailor can take them in a bit. - The opening to the front pockets could be a little bit larger. With large hands, the openings make it difficult to draw from the pocket, even with the smallest 380 on the market. If the front belt loops were moved forward, the angle of the opening could be decreased, and leave more room to get hands and whatever is in them in and out. I would also like to see "clip area" reinforcement on the left side like there is on the right. I personally keep my pen light and clipped key on my reactionary side, and also not everyone is right handed. - Only 5 belt loops, which could be fine, but there is a large span of space on the sides where it is just the elastic material (11 inches between loops when the waist is fully stretched out). Again going back to carrying (tactical shorts) this could lead to a lack of support for an OWB holster, or even that sag of the shorts from the belt with an IWB. Take the info, but consider my review of 4 stars. These shorts are extremely sturdy and have a lot of thought into them. The things I noted are based on personal preferences, but they may help you in making your decision. I will re-review down the road to comment on fading and durability.

I am the biggest fan of these shorts! 4 stars with -1 for small issues Propper should fix.
I am a HUGE fan of these cargo shorts I've been buying these since 2011 in different colors and unfortunately different sizes due to fat azz. These are my favorite things to wear- roomy, comfortable, extremely duable fabric, fantastic pockets, like the styling too.... So why the 4 stars and not 5? Well, the last star was deleted for the education of Proper to some details I really believe need addressing: The front snap: after 4 years of heavy use, the female end of the snap dislodged itself while the rest of the shorts are mostly in great shape with the exception of the stitching reinforcement at the fly. A heavier duty snap with a fastener that is reinforced is needed at this main stress point. The size if the lower right side main cargo pocket would be greatly improved with a cm more room all atound, it barely closes with my SPEC-OPS brand T.H.E. wallet (which is the wallet of choice for guys who wear this kind of thing)the velcro often come undone when under stress potentially causing the wallet to dislodge itself. The coin pocket top left used to be slightly bigger and I found it very useful but my 2015 pair I just bought is considerably smaller making it less useful. I really hate deleting that star, considering how much I love this product, but these issues are with pointing out to Propper. Update 2020: still buying this cargo short to the dismay of my s.o. :) if I get them too bug my whole family disapproves, but I still assert that these cargo shorts are the best for rugged adventures, camping, rafting, hiking, biking... Still beeds a bigger coin pocket, slightly larger belt loops to fit tactical rigging belts (more military stuff that causes eye rolls from my family).

Solid, well made
I bought four pairs of these shorts about 8-10 years ago direct from Propper. They held up well with only one pair splitting the seams. The biggest issue was the pockets wearing out from my keys. I was hesitant to buy these due to price, BUT, they are very well made with new features that make them even better. Cell phone pocket, pocket watch pocket and they even retained the magazine pocket which makes them very useful. Size ran true for me and I'm happy with them.

Just like its long pants
These tactical shorts are just like its big brother. Very comfortable to wear and practical as well. I bought the other Propper brand canvas tactical pants and that was 5 stars as well. The front left and right pockets are deep and the hand slots angle allows for reaching in even when you are at seating positions. There is a reinforcement tape sewn into the bottom edge of the opening so you can use your clip knife and not wear away the material. The waist band has an elastic band 2 inches wide but doesn't go around the entire waist. The belt loops are positioned three across the back and two along the frontal area so not to impede access to your front pockets. It helps when you are wearing items on your belt. The back pockets are dual purpose. There is a smaller pocket inside the larger outer pocket if you want a wallet there. The larger pocket is DEEP and WIDE. It measures approx 8 inches across the opening to 10 inches deep. Each lower leg pocket has ample room to place items. They are approx 8 inches wide by 7 inches deep. There is a phone pocket located on the left front and it just fits my iPhone 5 with the Lifeproof case. The material is resistant to spills. Liquid just beads and falls off without penetrating the fabric but it breathes so its not very hot to wear. All pocket closures are with Velcro. Not that cheapo type that other cargo pants have. These are military spec. The front closure is a snap with YKK type slide fasteners, very durable. Each pants comes with a 2 inch wide nylon belt with plastic buckle. These pockets are not like BDUs. They expand from the center not from all sides of the pocket. It gives the pants a cleaner look.

Size is smaller than expected. Order next size up.
Good quality and well made. Hope they soften up after a few washes. Not sure if they have starch

Well made and comfortable.
Extremely comfortable and well made. I would recommend these. Double stitching goes right into the corners and other hard to reach areas. Made with quality materials.

Great fit, love the 'hidden' pockets
I'm going to buy more just so I can keep rotating them, and not destroy them! Price is so much better than Hammill (they charge around $65CAD) compared to Propper's price.

Good quality.
I like them wish they came with a button instead of a snap good quality.
