Many Times, the Old-Fashioned, "Boring" Ones Make the Best Life Partners
Summary: This is a review for the black "Camper" style Expedition watch with a black Velcro Fast Wrap band. This style is unique from the other Expedition Acadia watches offered by Amazon in that it has water resistance of 100M instead of 50M for the other models. I have seen some non-Amazon reviews showing this same black Timex Expedition watch with 50M water resistance, but mine is 100M. I believe that there is also a white dial version of this watch, too, that is available on Amazon, but it is listed separately from the other Acadia models. A quick rundown of watch details: 38mm resin case, quartz movement, 100M water resistant, Indiglo, push crown at 3 o'clock with modest protectors flanking the crown, date complication, hackable second hand, stainless steel screw down case back, Fast Wrap Velcro band, black dial, white Arabic numerals, small military time designations, flush acrylic face, white lumed minute and hour hands, and red second hand. All in all, a very simple watch design. Pros: Easy to read, durable, light weight, the second hand lines up with the dial markers, accurate, very comfortable band, excellent water resistance, Indiglo backlighting feature is excellent Cons: None, really. If I had to come up with some, I would say average lume on hands, will eventually have to replace the battery Review: The first thing I would say is that if you can still find one of these and you are in the market for a solid, dependable military-style field watch, stop reading this and buy it now while you can. At 30-ish dollars, you can't go wrong and there isn't much to lose. I have always been hard on watches. I have a digital Casio G-Shock, but I wanted a simple, analog field watch (without all the *stuff* on it) as a different style of beater watch. After some searching and looking at a lot of different watch reviews online (including reviews from soldiers who purchased Timex Campers like this one at the PX and wore them in the field), this popped up on Amazon and I purchased it. I have had it for a little over a month now and it has been a faithful companion during that time. I don't go out of my way to abuse my possessions, but this Timex hasn't been coddled, either. It's gone to work with me in an office setting, but it also does real yardwork with me, I have taken it hiking, I have submerged it in water, I workout with it on, and I have had no problems with it at all. It has gotten a little scuffed up and dirty, but it cleans up nicely, including the Velcro. It has gotten a few good bumps and it's just fine. The face isn't rounded and doesn't stick out above the surface of the watch, so it won't get scratched up so easily. When it does invariably get scratched though, it should be easy enough to polish out the blemishes. For what it's worth, if you are looking for a comfortable band, particularly if you have a larger wrist like I do (8"), the Velcro band is really nice. It fits perfectly every time, it isn't scratchy at all, it dries out quickly, it stays secure at all times, and it never feels sticky like the regular resin-type bands do. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but now I'm not sure if I would want to go back to another resin band. The watch has been fairly accurate. As soon as I received it from Amazon, I set it using www.time.gov. During the time that I have had it, it has lost only four seconds. That's not too bad at all. With a quartz movement, I didn't expect any less. It is easy to set both the time and date. The second hand is hackable, so synchronized time-setting is possible. The uncluttered dial is easy to read. The numbers are crisp. The hands are clear. The date window doesn't require a second look. One of the characteristics of this watch that will please some of the more exacting watch owners out there is the fact that the second hand movement lines up with the markers as the second hand moves around the dial. Some watches have analog movements where the second hand fails to properly land on the markers, but not this one! The watch isn't too large, so it slips nicely under one's sleeve, but yet it isn't so small that it looks like a kid's timepiece. Even as a bigger, taller guy with a larger wrist, the watch still looks appropriate on me. It is also very light and I forget that I'm wearing a watch. There really aren't too many things that I don't like about the watch. The lume on the hands isn't outstanding. It's fine, but what lume it has is not going to garner awards. The hour and minute hands have lume, but there is no lume on the dial or second hand. That said, it is important to remember that this is not a dive watch. The Indiglo works very nicely though. In absolute darkness, the Indiglo function works perfectly. Having to replace the watch battery someday will stink, but only because I worry about losing water resistance due to improper battery and O-ring installation. I like the watch enough that I will probably just pay to send it to Timex, have them replace the battery, give it a once over, and then ship it back to me. I would rather have the manufacturer do it right than have a jeweler screw it up. Yeah, I know, it's only a $30 watch, but it's a really well-designed $30 watch and I like it. It feels like somebody took time to engineer this watch right. It may sound kind of silly, but it's like somebody actually cared when this watch was being designed and built. It is a lot like driving past a simple, old building in town that has a special architectural character to it. It just looks and feels like it was thoughtfully designed to do something very specific. That's what this watch is like. That leads me to my last point. I may be wrong, but I don't think Timex makes this model anymore. Why not? They make a lot of other ones that are prettier, have GPS, can pay for groceries, or whatever, but they aren't going to last like this one. This is a tremendous watch and blows away all of the other Expedition models. Why is it that such a great watch like this gets discontinued? Is it because it is too old-fashioned? Is it boring? Nobody bought it? Well, if it pops up for sale on Amazon, and you're in the market for this simple, camper-style watch, you should plunk down your $30 or so and get it. Many times, the old-fashioned, "boring" ones make the best life partners.

Great but loud!
I love this watch and wear it all day everyday. Its a perfect lightweight, readable everyday watch. My biggest complaint is that it ticks like a wall clock. Its hands down the loudest ticking watch I've ever had. I tend to get focused on sounds and once you hear it you can't ignore it. I read other reviews on the other styles to see if it was just mine but it appears this is across the board. I would still buy this again or a different color style but the ticking noise might be too much for some.

Expeditions are cheap and last YEARS!!
My band broke on my old Expedition (yard sale find 7 years ago for $3), so, instead of replacing the band, i just got a new watch. Bands are half the price of a new watch. Just got it 10 minutes ago, strapped it on, set the time/date....good to go!! My old one works perfect, just broken band....you can thank Sunny my parrot for that :)

Watch is thicker than older versions
This is my 5th Timex Expedition watch, so I clearly like them. This watch is much thicker than all the previous Expedition watches I own. I prefer the thinner model. The dial is very clear and easy to read. The strap lugs extend below the back of the watch adding to the thickness of the watch when wearing. The overall design of the plastic case looks, cruder, simpler and cheaper. Having said this, the watch is still a good value.

Just what I needed
Beater watch for hiking and biking. Uncomplicated with night light. I like the fabric band, as sunscreen and dirt tear up leather. Keeping good time. The back uses screws to attach, so easy battery replacement. For simple needs, this watch is hard to beat it for the money.

Durable
I first bought this watch at Walmart. It survived a lot of ditch digging and restoration work. After enough abuse, the day counter stopped working. I found a replacement on Amazon similarly priced. Bought it again as casual wear. My only complaint is for the manufacturers. I never noticed until the new one came, but the afterglow is not a full circle. It cuts off flat at the bottom. A small flaw for those attentive to detail. Still a great time keeper!

Very nice watch
I liked the simplicity of the watch. Nice big numbers easy to see in the sunlight. Very comfortable, lightweight and low profile. Perfect for working outside. I would purchase again.

"Watch"
I bought this watch as a replacement for My previous watch. It arrived on time. I already tried this watch on and fits really good. It's also durable as well.

Good every day watch.
A nice little watch at a price the means you don't have to worry about bashing it. The 38mm size is misleading as this includes the little protrusions near the crown and on the opposite side. Without these it is only 36mm which suits my 6.75" wrist. The face is very clear so you can read the time at a glance. The hands have long lasting lume but obviously you have indiglo if it's very dark. My watch is loosing 3 seconds a week which is fine at this price point. I noticed that it lost more time if you use the backlight but this could be that the battery needs replacing as it arrived ticking and I no Idea how long it's been in storage. Strap is very comfortable and the whole package is as light as a feather. One thing that did impress me was that the second hand hits all the batons on the way round. I've paid more in the past for watches that can't manage that. You can sometimes here it ticking but it's not at the volume of the Weekender if you are familiar with that model. I'm very satisfied with this simple low priced watch. Only gripe; Timex, please pull the crown out before dispatch so that the watch arrives with a full battery.

Tick a Tick a Timex
Only bought a few Days ago so unable to comment on water resistance..But it has a lovely clear face able to read at quick glance..with a precise second hand movement..Date Calendar..plus the Light up function of Indiglo is a welcome bonus.. The Strap seems robust in a nice Olive shade with a Rubber hoop to secure.. It also has a screw down back which is unusual in the cheaper Watch brands.. Water resistance has not been tested but I have relative confidence in this area as the Watch has been manufactured to a high level..So far is keeping great Time and has not missed a beat..The winder itself is protected by a well designed and shaped resin giving added protection for everyday usuage.. Buying on a genuine Sale price is always nice but even at full price is still a Bargain and am hoping for a few years of service as part of my small collection of Watches.. But in the meantime I would highly recommend this Timex Expedition Watch as you get a lot for the small outlay..Thanks..

A great activity watch.
This watch is superbly designed for it's purpose. The black resin case is very tough as is the black nylon strap. The watch is water resistant to 100m/360ft so the watch is effectively waterproof for all water based activities. The large hands and numerals are easy to read at a glance which is ideal for cycling or similar activities when a quick look is all that can be spared. The watch face includes a date window which is also large and clear. The hands are luminous and the watch also has the 'Indiglo' backlight feature for viewing at night. My only criticism is the 20mm nylon strap which is fastened with Velcro. This is great when new as it is tough, secure and comfortably fits all wrist sizes. However, this will only last as long as the Velcro but replacement straps are easy to obtain. A very good watch . I'm very pleased.

Not for the perfect timekeepers...
So, I bought my husband a Timex watch for Christmas at his request. We sent it back shortly after, as it was losing time. (It had "lost" 5 seconds in the first week!). He's very particular about his watch being correct, he sets it by the BT speaking clock, and checks it once a month or so for his other watch (a Sekonda) and that keeps perfect time. This was the second Timex watch we ordered, to replace the one we had sent back, and this also is losing seconds frequently. (By losing, I mean it doesnt keep as good a time as others, it obviously ticks at a slower rate over a period of time). He's not happy with it because of the inaccuracy, but we have had it too long to return it now (because of the COVID-19 situation and work) so it's currently an unused ornament on our mantelpiece... So to sum up, if you're not bothered about it keeping absolute perfect time, then it's a good, sturdy, easy to read watch, BUT if you (or the man in your life) is a little bit particular about it being perfect, then don't bother! Finally - the backlight, it works and is bright enough, but there is a very small (I'm talking a couple of pixels high if it were digital!) section at the bottom of the watch face that doesn't light up. But you can still read the whole face easily and clearly.

A fantastic watch
This is the second watch I've owned in the last fifteen years and both exactly the same. They really are worth the money. There is a button on one side which when pushed down, lights up the whole watch face. The hands are covered in glow in the dark paint so easy to see in poor light and the clock face is simple and easy to read. The last time I bought this watch, I had ten good years before I lost it. One last thing; I am allergic to many metals but the velcro on the back means no metal touches my skin. I love this watch as it's comfortable to wear and waterproof
