Second season of using this product, and my pond is improving.

I'm using this in an approximately 1/10th-acre pond that has an average depth of only 3 feet. The pond is heavily sludged and I know I have a nutrient overload. I get a lot of runoff from a neighbor that loves to fertilize his lawn, so I have developed a pretty severe seasonal algae problem. I can kill the algae with herbicides but then it falls to the bottom and becomes food for a new algae bloom. This product is supposed to break the cycle by consuming excess nutrients, thereby "starving" the algae. I haven't used an algaecide this year, but started using this product at a heavy dosage and I am seeing some clearing in the shallows, where I concentrated my efforts in the name of experimentation. I know I am going to have to eventually drain and dredge again like I did in 1999 to get rid of the mud accumulation (this product only consumes organics) but maybe this will buy me some time. It's similar to other biological pond cleaners, I've used a few different brands and types (liquids, powder bags) and they all work to some extent. It takes a long time to get a big pond back in balance, believe me, it's an ongoing process. I think this product is better suited to the smaller water-garden type ponds, it's cost-prohibitive for large scale use to correct a "problem pond". But it works as intended. Do your research, and you may have to try different products to fix whatever issue you are having, but this product is worth a try. It appears to be working for me, for now. Note: This is a follow-up review, I used the Orb-3 Sludge Pellets last year. This product has a slightly different name, and I have yet to determine if the formulation is the same; the other product is not available at this time. I saw my water quality improve last year, and now that the water is warming up I've started dosing again and I believe my pond is starting to clear up just 2 weeks into treatment.

Been using for a few weeks now

This is one of those products that takes a few weeks to work, and it's really too soon to say. Plus the weather here has been all over the place - '80s one day and 30's the next! Beneficial bacteria complete the all important Nitrogen Cycle by converting fish waste debris (leaves, etc.) into usable nutrients. This also controls algae (pea soup.) Unfortunately, my pond water temp has fluctuated between 45 and 80 degrees over the past couple of weeks. This effects how fast it starts to work. The quality seems superior, and the storage bucket is well designed - locking and O-ring sealed. I popped off the lock almost right away - it's a pain to use this and grip the lid to spin off. There's plenty here to last my 9,000 gallon pond for a few years. The bucket is air tight, so this stuff should store well for longer than I need!

Orb-3 Lake and Pond Dry Bacteria Pail Bulk, 10-Pound, Seems to Work

This is a review of Orb-3 Lake and Pond Dry Bacteria Pail Bulk, 10-Pound. The 10-lb pail will treat a ¼ acre pond with an average depth of 4'-5' for one full season. I used it in my pond put it is one-half acre and an average depth of 8 feet. It takes time to get or see results, especially when using only the 10 pounds sent to me for the Amazon Vines review. It was easy and convenient to distribute in the pond and after several weeks I did see some improvement with the algae issue, but since it was only half the amount I needed. I know I will have to buy another 10 pounds or use a different product to finish the job since my pond is one-half acre. I have used other products to keep down the algae growth in my pond that seemed to work well and cost about 30 to 40% less than this product. All in all, I think this is a decent product that does seem to work but it does seem a little pricy so I give it a 4 star rating. .

Your mileage may vary.

Followed the directions to the last letter, had some smarter folks figure the correct dosages and application method. Six weeks later, no change at all. I have a lot of duckweed, caused I believe by neighbor's over-fertilizing run-off. I don't know if the supplier had this in mind, but my results are at absolute zero.
