Hands down best trolling reel you can get for the money

Abbreviated version of below: Buy it you wont regret it, and personally it is the only trolling reel I will ever buy for future poles. You wont find a better reel for your money. Reels 3-4x the cost of this one are hardly any better and this reel leaves nothing to be desired. I have only used this reel on the water for about 16 hours (2 trips) but I am still giving it 5 stars. The reel seems to be of very good quality, it was a great price for what you are getting (I believe i paid about $40), the line counter is absolutely great and makes setting lines out to the same distance easy as can be (plus gives you the piece of mind knowing your all out to the exact same distance, no guesswork). For me this is very beneficial because I am using it for trolling plugs for steelhead in Washington and having everyones plugs out the same distance increases the odds of a hit significantly (creates what I have heard referred to on many informational sites and youtube tutorials as 'the wall of death'... odd name but whatever works). The only thing that had me debating if I should give this 5 stars or 4 was the fact that I haven't personally had much fish time with the reel, but I decided to go with 5 based on the fact that I do know someone who has the same reel series (same reel but a size smaller with less line capacity but otherwise identical) and he has had it on his steelhead rod for several years now and he really likes it, it has performed just as well as anything else he has used, and he fishes on A LOT more than I do (probably trolls 16 hours a month and used to do much more and had this reel on at that time as well). Bottom line it is a great reel for the money and I don't see how you could go wrong with it. Without hesitation I will be buying one for each and ALL of my trolling poles from now on, thats how much I like this reel.

Ok, but!

Had to ad a washer to drag when you set up clicker for trolling, after that tension was tight enough to troll!

Very nice reel!

A couple of summers ago, my father and I went on a guided salmon fishing trip. I'm always watching professionals to try and learn what tools or gizmos they use. I figure if it's what professionals use day in day out, then it must be something that can take a little more abuse and most likely works at peak performance. Anyway, I got talking with our guide about the reels he had outfitted his rods with. This reel is as close to the model he had that I could find. I've been super happy with these reels across the board, but where they really shine is trolling because of the line counter. Find the depth where the fish are, and dial right down to them very quickly. I have been keeping my eyes on Okuma for a while now, and I'm very satisfied with this product. I want to point out that you really don't need a line counter, but it makes getting on the fish a very quick process. I used to mark line or count revolutions while back reeling before this. However when everyone in the boat is hooked up, and all you want to do is get back down to the fish quickly, these reels save time.

Strong but Not for Saltwater

This reel very storg but not for saltwater. Every week I have to open it and clean the oxide.If you don't clean it, it jams.

Great trolling reel

Fantantic TROLLING Reel. If you are a serious trolley this is a great great real. The drag is quick in setting, strong and a little sensitive as the drag wheel is all of 3 to 4 turns. But the fact it rotates with the crank I have yet to lose drag setting. With that it's easy to turn to much in and lose fish because of it. Practice makes perfect. Counter is accurate as long as you have a full real. Mine's at 300ft and 4ft measured with a tape measure shows 5ft on the guage. No big deal as it holds way more line than this. A little math persay and all good. Will be buying my dad one for father's day and probley another one for me as well. Remember this reel was not deigned for true casting like a casting reel is. Trolling is the only reason I have this reel.

Great open face reel with line counter

Small but mighty open face reel with line counter. I use this for offshore trolling with braided line in salt water and it works very well! Would definitely buy again.

Goodh value for the money

Generally the reel works well. As with most star drags I have used there is very little play between off completely and on hard settings. In addition it is easy to inadvertently loosen the drag while using the reel.

Nice solid reel

Bought for a recent fishing trip (halibut and ling cod) in Pacific water up to 250ft deep. The reel did well. 4 stars since I don't know how it will perform over time.
