Great Goggles - Instructions on How to Best Install Them
I have used Malmsten swedish style goggles for over 35 years now and still have my 30 year old set of sockets that I keep for emergencies. As I read the negative reviews it was plain to see that the buyer wasn't informed about how to either put these together or how they are used. These Speedo's are Malmsten and even bear the logo as they should on the side. The are excellent build quality and I like the nice resealable pouch that they both came in (1 pouch two sets of goggles). The ONLY downside is swedish style fog up but after 40+ years of swimming all goggles eventually do some just take longer than others and there are plenty of coatings you can apply to slow down the process. The best way to prepare and use these excellent, goggles is to relax and set yourself to spend about 5-10 minutes setting them up. If you do this you will get decades of use from them. 1. Get an old emery board (2 sided if you can, buff and coarse) 2. Scissors...NO RUNNING ON THE POOL DECK! 3. Felt tip marker 4. Get your reading glasses 5. Get good lighting and some mood music 6. LEAVE THE EYE COATING ON TILL YOU ARE READY TO USE THEM...... 7. Buy a stretch bungee to use as your head band and save the rubber band for use as the nose piece, emergencies or to launch killer spit wads at your coach..... Start by taking the coarse side of the emery board and GENTLY buff the outer edge of the entire eye socket, repeat on each. Using your fingers, feel for any rough or sharp edge and gently buff it with the coarse side of your emery board. Try to not buff the front...keep the protective coating on till you are done. Take the super fine/buff side of the emery board and now repeat the process and ensure the entire edge of the eye socket is smooth and has no sharp edges. This ensures that your nose won't get cut or abused by them if you wear them for long periods of time. Finally the hard part- the nose piece. The Novice/Lazy/easy version - simply cut a 2 1/2" to 3" (7cm-9cm) piece off the head strap, be sure to cut a sharp angle on either side so you can get in through the holes (Just like the band ends as they were sent to you). At this point you can either use the enclosed speed nose grommet or not, slip the grommet though and center, pull each end of the rubber though the socket till you have about 1" or so spacing. DO NOT put the head band on until you have pressed the sockets with nose piece on to your eyes. Once you gently press them on they should just stick to your face. Its that simple. they pop off from the outside then increase the space between your eyes, if they are bunched in the middle reduce the space. They do NOT NEED TO BE TIGHT to work. They are designed to just rest on your eye socket. Install your head strap of choice and adjust until its just snug. There is no need for any head strap to be gripping your head like a vice to hold your goggles in place. If they fall off while you are diving in...tuck that melon you call a head in down towards your chest as its your form not your goggles. The hard/expert version - using the string! Thread the string through the nose grommet. pull string ends through one socket and tie of with a granny knot as USE AS LITTLE STRING AS POSSIBLE. String the other end through the other eye socket - DO NOT TIE OFF. Place the sockets on your melon gently till you feel them fully sucked on. Pull the lose string till it's tight. Using the felt tip marker, mark the string on the inside (nose side) of the string hole. Remove the sockets and tie off the remaining side so that the mark is inside or just covered by the hole. Cut off excess and install your band/bungee and go do a few thousand to break them in. Install your head strap/bungee of choice and adjust until its just snug. There is no need for any head band to be gripping your head like a vice to hold your goggles in place. If they fall off while you are diving in...tuck that melon you call a head in down towards your chest as its your form not your goggles. yes I said that twice since people are slow learners. These goggles when taken reasonable care of, will last you decades. Literally. Occasionally, after a few years you can wash them with mild soap to remove the crud that builds up on them. The enclosed rubber band will usually break down like most rubber bands do. Go get a bungee it will usually last as long as the sockets will.

Classic Swedish goggles
Classic Swedish goggles, I have been using these for over 30 years and am grateful that they are still making them. Buying a stock of them for future use.

Speedo name and Malmsten quality? Great
I bought these goggles a few days ago to swim some laps after what must have been a good six months. I took the advice of a friend and purchased these swedish goggles. I was worried about buying cheap plastic "toy-like" goggles, but boy these surprised me a lot. First of all, they are simple and bare. When I put them on, I really liked how my focus was only ahead of me. I heard that they give 180 degree view? I can see from the sides, but with the way the goggles are designed its not a flawless view. But that was not one of the reasons I bought these any way. I bought these goggles for their longevity and simplicity. There is no foam/plastic gasket around the eye pieces which turn people away thinking that they will hurt and look uncomfortable. But in my opinion, they are quite comfortable. Some people sand the edges of the eye pieces to make the feel and fit better, but I do not want to take a chance and wreck these goggles, so I leave them as it and use my thumb nail to kind of "scratch away" the excess plastic still on the goggles (which works). The goggles come unassembled, but there are numerous guides online and on youtube that will show you how to assemble them. On a scale of 1-5 (1= easy 5= hard) for assembly, if you are doing this for the first time, I would rate it a 2 1/2. I give it this rating primarily because there are no adjustment features. Everything is tied-in with a knot! So you should have some idea of your ideal goggle fit before tying that knot. And what I did to combat this problem was- selecting the pair of goggles that I liked the least, and using that as my practice assembly pair! Worked great and my next goggle assemble went smoother. Some people also cut the latex straps and use it for the nose piece, but I was quite satisfied with the rubber cover that Speedo supplied to put over the string. Just be careful when tying the knot to your nose piece because it's hard to undo and can make ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the comfort factor of your goggles. I personally like to have a couple mm of string showing on each side of the rubber covering which provides proper distance of my eye pieces and does not stick literally into the bridge of my nose. Like I said, use your first pair as a practice to get a feel for what works and what doesn't. 3 extremely important recomendations though: I would advise buying a bungee strap to replace the latex? straps supplied by speedo. With the latex straps you have to make a knot when you have your ideal headstrap fit. And you risk the chance of snapping the straps if you pull too tight or undo your knot continuously. Bungee straps are widely popular and have and adjustable mechanism so you can readjust the tightness of your head strap whenever is needed! For those who want to stick with the latex straps; tie the headstrap knot when you are in the pool. Not at your desk as you are trying to assemble the goggles. Remember, we still have to deal with water leakage and pressure. So what better way to do it than in the pool itself? My second suggestion would be DO NOT CUT THE STRING of the nose piece until you have decided that is the right length for you. In the instructional video I watched, the guy cut his string early and I did the same. When I went into the pool, the eye pieces were soo close together that I was getting a huge headache from the pressure against my nose. I suggest letting some string show at the ends of the rubber cover (prob a mm or two). And thirdly, before you jump in the pool, WASH these goggles (and straps) with cold water and mild soap! They have some preservative on the straps to prevent cracking and after I touched them and touched my goggles, they had a strange filmy cover all over them. But you can get rid of this with mild soap and water too. But every time after a swim, I'd advise washing this in cold water and getting the chlorine off. This will definitely prolong the life of your goggles! I used my pair for an hour and a half continuously in the pool and loved them! Definitely going to buy the bungee strap though.

Everything comes apart
The google comes all separated and it is a little bit complicated to set it up. The hole to put the string it's very small and require to have glasses or have sharp eyes Not easy at least 10 -15 mins , I will try them in the pool thus weekend and report further

Too complicated
The goggles came in pieces. I couldn’t figure out how to put them together and broke one of the straps trying.

Good googles
This is a long term review - 1yr+ If you are a fan of the Swedish Montebara goggles then you will like these. I personally like them and think they are excellent and come close to the feel of the original goggles. These are not for everyone, but if you spend a lot of time in pools and you are interested in trying the Swedish style goggles these are a good option. I didn't do a direct comparison but the lens shape looks to be a slight variation on the originals, but still fits excellent. * However this will not fit all faces and will not be comfortable for everyone. Pros: - Simple with minimal use of rubber/latex - Low profile - Stays stuck to the face with little to no leakage - Extremely robust. I abuse my equipment - i.e. I don't rinse in water after use and do not dry religiously. - Light - Reasonably priced Cons: - Must be assembled - Lenses fog up after a while (I would say after about 4-5 months of use) - Will not fit all faces and it may not be comfortable if you are not used to this style - Adjustments are difficult after initial assembly

bought it for regular training

Not worth it.
Comes disassembled. Assembly is finicky and there are no given instructions. Please buy something else.

Great goggles - hard to size
I love this style of goggles. I used to be a competitive swimmer and these sit snug to the eye and don't have much drag. There is no foam between the plastic and the eye (which I prefer) but it can take some time to get used to. The only problem I have is that the string that it comes with is really hard to thread into the hole and next to impossible to get through the Speedo rubber bit (luckily you don't need this part). The string is used to tie them to your specific size and is a great way of doing it but the threads become untwisted really easily and is ridiculously hard to thread into the eye piece.
