Significantly darkened ent unbuckle shoes
Cannot attest to the waterproof nature of this product although everybody seems to think it’s pretty good as I have not yet tested it in wet weather. However, I will note that it significantly darkened my tan nubuck leather shoes to a mid brown. so read the instructions carefully and do test it and let it dry for 24 hours before you use it if you want to keep your original light color.

Overpriced. Horrific Smell.
Effective on leather footwear. HORRIFIC smell will never leave cotton/denim/canvas apparel or footwear.

Spray version unavailable or in error
Selecting the spray version puts the sponge-on in my cart, in recent days at least. I like and have used the spray version for years but I can't order it!

My new go to waterproofing
I have used many different brands of waterproofing on my boots and shoes over the years. When I purchased a new pair of trail shoes last I went looking for the best waterproofing I could find. The Nikwax is higly recommended on several sights so I thought I would give it a try. I and very please with how well the Nikwax works. My feet are dry and happy. In fact I am on the my second bottle. The only downside is the pump spray bottle. I have arthritis in my hands and thge pump bottle is a little hard to use.

Great for Hats
I bought this when trying to find a way to restore my hat's water resistance. I have a felt hat that I love. But, over time, it has lost most of it's water resistance. I own a hat cover to make it perfectly waterproof but it's not always convenient when a light snowfall comes in. Based on recommendations from a hat maker website I used this. First, clean your hat. Then, apply a coat of spray and wipe it down. I used blue shop towels. Let it dry. Apply a second coat. I think I may have done 2 coats on 1 hat and 3 on another. There is a bit of darkening with the coating. I wouldn't say it is enough to bother me or anything. Just a caution. I found that it restored 95% of my water resistance. And it has lasted me all year. I will probably recoat it in the winter. Oh, and I have not once felt a residue from it. Once it dried that is. It doesn't create some layer of film on the hat that you'll notice on your fingers.

Easy to apply and very effective
Easy to apply and very effective. I work in a garden centre and frequently get my hiking boots soaked when watering the plants with the industrial hoses. The original waterproofing of my nubuck & suede boots held up for a few months but when it wore out I had soggy socks every day. I followed the instructions on this NikWax spray and applied them to the boots. That was several weeks ago and the waterproofing from the spray is still holding up. Very happy.

Good Product but apply plenty
It’s very convenient to spray NikWak onto a clean surface (wet or dry) The old sponge head was OK until the Sponge gave up. Best to liberally apply several times; you’ll notice that the boots appear dry even when walking in wet grass. Through Amazon it was more expensive than the (closed) Cotswold Outdoor Store.

Waterproofed my old, cracked leather boots
This product managed to restore my rather poorly looked-after leather walking boots to waterproofness. I have a good pair of leather boots that I have not kept as regularly clean as I should have. The leather was actually splitting and cracking. I washed, dried, put on dubbin and once dry, I sprayed two layers of this - letting each coat dry in between. The boots have since withstood a number of walks in very wet and muddy conditions. I will need to repeat this cleaning & proofing process regularly but I definitely think this spray made all the difference - Dubbin alone would not have done it!
