I like it, but it will fail (the rubber valve inside the top part wears out and no longer shuts off the water)
I purchased this item as a replacement for one I had previously purchased (I have two of these installed in Crane toilets from the 50's). In reality, I only needed the cap where the actual rubber valve is located (there is a little rubber piece inside the cap that causes the water to shut off). When I received the item, I popped off the top and screwed it onto the old valve rather than draining the tank and replacing the entire unit. I wish they sold just the top part, as it fails on a regular basis (I guess the rubber wears out and stops functioning as it should). I first installed this item around a year ago, but recently the toilet would continue to run when the tank was full (the rubber valve inside this unit became stiff and was not shutting off the water). The newer unit had a "stop catch" molded to the plastic housing to prevent unscrewing the top part that the older version didn't have (it was very easy to unscrew the top on the older model), but I simply popped it off to be able to unscrew the part I needed. I will continue to use this as I like the rest of the system I installed with it (dual flush and also a "jet" that blasts the bottom of the tank to clear out sediment), but be aware that the valve will fail every one year or so due to the rubber in the shut-off mechanism becoming stiff. [UPDATE 4-30-14] Replacing another one of these... I sure wish you could just purchase the top portion (because that is the part that fails on a regular basis, as mentioned above)! Also, I have no idea what "detects leaks" means in the product advertisement. How does a toilet valve "detect leaks?" Finally, this item is sold as "Danco Universal Fit Adjustable Toilet Fill Valve" for seven bucks at the local big box hardware store that rhymes with clothes and as simply "Water Saving Fill Valve" at the other one for the same price. That's half off what is listed here.

Fave so far
For various reasons, I've had to replace inlet valves several times on our toilets, most recently when I installed dual-flush systems, and decided to renew everything while doing so. These units are simple to install, are easily adjusted for fill level, have a great little adjuster for the rate of fill of the bowl after a flush, and also have a little catch for locking the inlet valve closed (maybe for when you're working on the flush valve as I was, or maybe even for when the house will be empty for a while?). Very happy.

Retrofit Water Saving Toilet Fill Valve
Great product that stands out from the competition due to not having to remove the tank to install. Most of the dual flush valves require removing the tank to remove the original flapper valve seat. Not too big a deal, but I just did not want to take a chance on one of these dual flush valves if it was going to be any hassle. I installed this on an original to the house 1960 toilet. It installed easily, but I could not get the bowl to fill on the #1 flush even after the #1 flush adjustment was maxed out. This problem was solved by installing the adjustable fill valve that is recommended to buy with this product. After installing the adjustable fill valve and a few minutes tweaking the settings it works great. Buying a modern water saving toilet is definitely the right way to go, but if like me, you don't have the several hundred dollars to lay out for a new toilet, this is a great alternative.

Easy to install, works great
Let's face it, toilet innards aren't supposed to be glamorous. This one, however, comes close. The HydroClean was easy to install, actually looks nice (modern?) in the tank, and includes a couple innovative features. First, there's a small plastic clip that lets you lock the float in the "up" position. This allows you to flush the toilet without the tank filling again, which allows you to work in the tank without having to get on your knees and shut the water off at the wall. Second, there's a little dial at the top of the valve that lets you select how much water re-fills the toilet bowl. This lets you select the right amount of water, so you water isn't being wasted by over-filling after each flush. Finally, the valve directs water downward so as to clean the inside of the tank upon each flush. My tank, being old, has years of accumulated rust stains. It didn't exactly brighten the inside of the tank but it looks a little lighter. All in all, a great product.

Well thought out
I installed this with the dual flush kit by the same company. The install was easy and the product is very well thought out and very adjustable to get the best water usage. My only disappointment was that it advertises that it can "detect leaks". Upon reading the manual this appears to reference a lock out feature that allows you to lock the valve such that it won't actuate when the tank level drops. This would allow you to check for a tank leak or do other service without shutting the water off, but its still a manual process where my impression was that it was some kind of automatic feature. The same tests could be performed just by shutting the water off. Still I'd buy it again and probably will as I service 6 toilets between my house, investment properties and my parent's house.

so far, tis excellent
We have gone through 2 'fluidmaster' fill valves from Home Depot. On both the float quit floating in little time. One of them constantly hissed. I did not want to buy another lousy part, so I ordered this one based on reviews. We have had it for one week. It is functional and far better than the Home Depot part so far. This one is a little more 'adjustable' than most other parts, mainly that you can adjust the bowl fill rate to coincide with the tank fill rate, which will save water. Like other similar fill valves this one has adjustable heights for the stem and the float. The very fact that it works is not in itself enough for the 5 stars, but when I compare it to the other similar parts (which don't work), this soars. . . I recommend this over fluidmaster parts from Home Depot. 18months later: still working flawlessly.

Works as advertised, including the bowl fill adjustment
The one minor snag I had while installing this was that the height adjustment was a bit "stuck" when I initially received it. I had some trouble figuring out what was wrong (in reality it just needed a good yank). Contra one reviewer for the HC660 model (which is the same but includes a "tank cleaning" extension), the included retaining nut worked fine for me. The bowl fill adjustment has been easy to use and reasonably precise. If I have problems within the next year or so (some HC660 reviews had issues with the float valve getting sticky) then I will update this review.

Installation was simple
Installation was very simple, it took me no more than 15 minutes to remove the old piece, install and connect the new one and adjust the height. The installation manual is very clear. Good product overall, I would buy it again.

Easy to replace
This was an replacement for the exact same part. I originally tried a universal valve also made by Danco that I picked up locally, I couldn’t make it fit properly. This unit arrived in just a few days and was installed in a couple minutes. Well worth the wait.

Quiet yet fast fill.
Very straightforward install. Works well in toilets with small tanks.
