Challenging to assemble, shoots things (minor hazard), kind of neat
This stamped kit creates 3 different medieval weapons - a mortar, a catapult and a mounted crossbow (they use fancier names). Rubber band mechanisms propel small wooden balls or arrows 10-15 feet from each weapon; injury or damage is unlikely unless you pointed directly at someone's eye from close range. Assembly would require a clever and committed 12 year old or better, from releasing the pieces from the laser cut panels to assembling the delicate wood to following sometimes complex directions. For the right young teen this would be a brilliant gift or joint project, and the included materials include interesting historical details about the design of the weapons by Leonardo da Vinci.

Very Challenging
I'm surprised at all the 5-star ratings. I've been building things all my life - 80 years. The directions are critical and often inadequate. The gluing sequence has to be evaluated with each step. 2 models had serious flaws. My 8 year old grandson needed constant help for most of it. Much he simply couldn't do and he likes to make things. 1. The ballista (crossbow) arrow was too flimsy to hold its shape and there was only one. Had to install extra rubber bands to give it adequate shooting force. 2. The bombard (cannon) required a rubber band installation that was hardly explained and extremely difficult - for any age level. Had to disassemble after figuring out what was expected. Fortunately, hadn't glued it.

Cheap Wood and Frustrating Instructions
2 of the 3 puzzles worked fine but the bombard did not function at all. The directions were confusing, the wood was VERY fragile, and it didn't work. I have a group of super disappointed 6th graders who didn't get to use their invention on the targets.

Very happy to find the material used for this product to be durable wood.
Excited to find the product to be durable wood pieces and functional. Definitely a good purchase.

Cool gift idea, but easily broken
These were a hit as a gift, but don't last long with eager young boys once assembled. Would be better as a display piece after assembly

Enjoyable construction and play
My two boys (8&10) have made two of these so far and enjoyed them both. They can be a little fiddly to construct, so children may need help. The pieces generally come out of the sheet easily enough but some may need a little sanding down before assembling. I would recommend not glueing the pieces initially. We found them quite a tight fit anyway, so they don't really need glueing, plus you might need to take bits apart again to fine tune them. We had some difficulty with the bombard to begin with as it wasn't releasing when we pushed the trigger, so I took that part apart and sanded a few of the pieces so that it worked better. When constructed correctly the results are impressive. The bombard and ballista can both shoot the projectiles quite far for their size (we have yet to make the catapult). My 8 year old in particular enjoys setting up the paper targets and trying to knock them back down.

Brilliant set for engineer-minded kids
This little set is brilliant! Challenging for my engineer-minded 9 year old but still very do-able. The wood is sturdy enough not to snap. The information in the instructions about Newton’s Law and the history of the machines is an extra bonus.

Practical and easy to assemble.
It is a great toy! My 8 years old loved it. Easy to follow the instructions, easy to asemble and gives the child hours of plaing. I love that is not made of plastic and I would like to buy in the future more educational toys like that, that have a low impact on the world polutin.

Great Xmas present.
Our lad loves this. Normally a lego fan but he spent xmas to new year making these, and trying 2 understand the mechanics. Top stuff. Fully recommended.
