A good match for a medium-heavy rod

I paired this reel with a Tsunami rod that came as a combo with a Tsunami reel. I wanted to use the Tsunami reel on a different rod, so this Penn was a good replacement. It casts and operates smoothly and seems sturdy so far. The price was good too.

Good, but buy the Penn Pursuit for $10 more as the handle doesn't come loose

Very good reel, except the handle comes loose occasionally. This version has the cap on the opposite end of the handle that you tighten to keep the handle tight, but it does come loose. I have other reels with the same set-up and they do the same thing. Go up a notch to the Penn Pursuit as the handle tightens when you wind it and it never comes loose. I have the Penn Wrath, Pursuit, and Fierce and the Pursuit is the best value mainly because the handle doesn't come loose. The Pursuit is the plastic version of the Fierce and works just as well for less money.

Good reel.

This reel is good for what it is. It’s the lowest end Penn you can get but it still holds up pretty well. It doesn’t have the HT-100 drag that the upper Penns have but the drag is still smooth. The bail wire is super thin as well. Overall it’s a solid lower entry level reel. 4/5 stars.

Best Low End of Penn Spinners!

I have to start by saying that this is the entry level for PENN Spinning Reels and I sincerely believe it’s the “The Best Buy For The Money” compared with other models and other name brand reels. This Wrath 2500-8000 is in my opinion “The Best Buy” for my money, bar none. A couple months ago I ordered the Wrath 2500, 4000, 8000 because the price. On the day I ordered, the prices were $29.99 for all sizes. Prices and stock fluctuate on all Reels due to the time of year or season. I also liked the specs that I downloaded from PENN.com and as importantly I have always loved the ease of ordering parts directly from PENN. I wasn’t disappointed from the first day. All three sizes are quiet and smooth. I use them for for saltwater bait and jerk casting in north Georgia to surf fishing down on the Gulf coast. I have caught just about everything possible from bluegill bream to catfish and carp. I have used the 2500 with a 4 lbs line for fly fishing with trout. The 8000 with 30 lbs test monofilament line, does well for big Cats in West Point Lake to Rays and Skates down on the Gulf of Mexico (it does well no matter what size and I really appreciate the weight and size of the 8000). These newly designed Penn WRATH spinners look nice with any color of line and rod but the ocean blue line really makes it look like a high dollar reel. Much more importantly, each size performs as well as any spinning reel I’ve owned for the price range. Saltwater but the is now my favorite. After looking at the diagrams of several reels in and above this price range of $30-$70, I concluded that Penn’s re-engineering has made this reel in the best class for both saltwater and freshwater spinners. (Lightweight saltwater for each size other than sizes 6000-8000). I tried to order a couple of 5000 or 6000 and another 8000 for weeks now but it’s been sold out, but Amazon has assured me that more is coming back in stock soon. I highly recommend the WRATH Spinner for a well designed, well built freshwater or saltwater reel. (By The Way - be sure to rinse off with tap water or hose after fishing in saltwater or brackish water.)

Can’t beat the value

The quality for the price is fantastic. Only reason it’s not a 5 star is that it doesn’t have the ability to switch from just reading in to allowing it to go both ways. Not a big deal though.

Damaged bail arm prevented correct line spooling. Returned for refund took a while as the reel had been shipped internationally. This had not been clear at time of ordering.

Excelente compra , línea de 28 y carrete 8mil vara daiwa 10 pies y buena captura del pargo de 7 kilos sin ningun problema de arrastre o frenado ! Súper recomendado

Don’t buy

Just using it after 4 months of purchase, found it’s a garbage, really not smooth even feel stuck. You would think a big fish but a small fish finally. I bought another two of PENN reels in the same month, all same feeling. Use them too late and have no chance to return. Never buy PENN again.

De buena manufactura, elefante y se ve resistente. Algo pesado.

Llego en perfectas condiciones! Mucho antes de lo previsto, casi 3 días antes. El carrete está impecable, no soy un experto aún; pero se ve de buena manufactura. Sus colores son elegantes. Habrá que probarlo ya en acción. Lo que si les puedo decir es que el carrete es algo pesado. De ahí en fuera me encanto.
