Love this reel
My all time favorite reel. I'm a creeker and need the abity to cast, throw, toss, pitch in a million different ways/angles. Smooth throw and smoother retrive. All metal with enough holes that if it does dunk the water drains right out. Easy to change R or L hand. Got 2 favorite rods.and bith have an Omega reel. Handles trout, small mouth, large mouth and panfish all the same.

Was sent as a gift
I bought this reel for a young fisherman who fishes a couple days a week. He absolutely loves the reel. Good casting, smooth retrieve. Works well with 6 or 8 lb test.

I bought a cheapie spincast combo for her to try out and she liked it. After researching everything available I settled on ...
Update March /2017: After watching what was happening on our fishing trips, my wife decided to again try using an open-faced spinning reel. She quickly grew to appreciate the ease of casting, smoothness, and drag reliability of the open-face. With these incentives she's pretty well mastered her Shimano. With no further use for the Z02PRO rig I gave it to our next-door neighbor. He loves it. Momma's happy, neighbor's happy..........everybody's happy! We jig fish for trout with ultralight rigs. My wife just couldn't get the hang of using an open-faced spinning reel. I bought a cheapie spincast combo for her to try out and she liked it. After researching everything available I settled on this reel for her. As I unpacked it I was impressed with the packaging, the instructions, extra handle and spool. The smoothness of the reel was OK but not as good as it should be. Very often new reels are not properly lubricated so i immediately took it apart to make sure. There is a paragraph on the instruction sheet titled "RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE". It shows a picture of the disassembled reel along with points for oil and grease. Problem is they don't tell you how to get the back cover off so you can do it. You have to unscrew the front cover and spinnerhead, then remove the spool. This will reveal the 2 screws holding the back cover in place. Once the back cover is off you're ready to lube the reel. My reel had the typical blobs of grease here and there but there were parts of the gears that were dry. I spread the existing grease around making sure all gears were coated. I then oiled all bearings and shafts I could get to with Quantum Hot Sauce reel oil. Its expensive but its AMAZING stuff. After reassembly the reel was so much smoother running, a huge improvement. The next step was to remove the horrendous line that comes on the reel. It looks like coiled copper wire.......and feels like it too. I replaced it with Trilene XL monofilament (4 lb test for our type of fishing). The next chore was to find a proper casting rod to mount it on. There's thousands of casting rods available but virtually none made for light spincasting. I ended up getting a 6ft BassPro MicroLite. This makes a good combination with the ZO2PRO. My wife loves her new rig and can get excellent distance with a 1/16oz jig. She's gone from catching virtually nothing to really doing well. On our last 3 trips to the lake she's caught a total of 28 trout including a 21in (approx 4 lb) brown trout. She really loves this reel. For her I'm giving it 5 stars. Me? Not so much. While I think this is the best spincast reel on the market, that's still not saying much because they're all pretty poor. The ZO2PRO is an improvement but still has a lot of cheapness about it. The fit of components is pretty sloppy. The drag wheel is poorly located and drag action isn't very reliable. If your drag setting is important then you'd better check it often. The "Level-Wind Oscillating Spool System" isn't level winding. The spool moves fore and aft a measly 1/8in and the line forms a mound in the center of the spool. However, I do have to say the reel casts very well and the wife has had zero problems with line handling inside the reel. The quick change spool is a great feature and the spare spool is a nice touch. The spare spool is either carbon fiber or plastic and doesn't fit the shaft nearly as well as the metal spool installed on the reel. The extra handle is nice but the handle thing is really weird. The double handles curve outward from the reel and feel pretty good. The single handle, for some reason, curves inward and interferes with the thumb on my rod hand. The wife's hands are smaller and she doesn't have that problem. After all this, what's the bottom line? If you absolutely MUST have a spincast reel then this is the one to get. Before you take it fishing, lubricate it well and put a good quality line on it. I think you'll be pretty happy with it..

Love these reels but one major flaw
I have fished with Zebco reels for over 50 years and love the Omega and Bullet series spincast reels for the ease of use and casting. Although it is higher priced than the 33 model, it touts being made using more metal pieces, more bearings, and more durable. However, I have found one major flaw. Every one of the Omega and Bullet reels I have owned (which is 8) has developed groves in the spinner head next to the pickup tabs causing the line to get caught when casting or for the line to break. I believe this is due to inferior metal being used by their Chinese production. Other options to consider are the Pflueger President or KastKing Brutus, or perhaps find a vintage 33 on ebay. The old ones made in USA were made of metal and more durable than today's Omega and many can be found for under $20. For the more serious fisherman, I would look at a spinning or baitcaster reel. Okuma, Abu Garcia, Shimano, Penn all make nice reels with starting prices under $100.

Very Nice spincast reel
I've been using Daiwa Goldcast spincasting reels for about 25 years, and love the reel. I decided to try something new, but was skeptical. I was pleasantly surprised with how this Zebco compares! Performance is close to the same, I really like the quick change line spool. And the drag feels decent. As others have noted in the reviews the single arm handle can bump your hand holding the rod, I figure it out and after a few minutes it was no longer a problem. I didn't try the double arm handle that is included. I'll see how it last compared to the Goldcast over time. I don't like change, but happy I gave this reel a shot, it's nice and performs well for a spincast.

Smooth and accurate
I recently purchased the Zebco Omega Pro Spincast Reel and I am extremely pleased with its performance. The reel is very easy to use and the spincast feature allows for a smooth and accurate casting. The size 30 reel is perfect for my needs and the drag system works very well. The reel is also very durable and well-constructed, which is important when using it out in the elements. I also appreciate the sleek design and the fact that it comes in multiple colors. I highly recommend this reel to any angler looking for a high-quality, easy-to-use spincast reel.

Savings from preventing $$ lures ending up in trees pays for the reel in one season of use!
I fish small streams from the banks. I’m in my 60’s so not a kid either. Loads of trees around me and on the far side of the stream. Also many logs and rocks and potential snags. About half of my casts are underhanded from the raised bank under tree branches meaning the rod tip is at or lower then my belt line during the cast. This reel makes fishing like that trouble free. I can make underhanded flip casts easily and if needed a simple push of the button stops the line from unspooling if my aim was not so great. When casts are unencumbered by trees this reel really shines. The line unspools very easy and the thumb control shines. This is not a toy reel for kids. It is a serious fishing reel that is meant for adults who have had it with the deficiencies of regular spinning reels for stream bank/lake bank fishing. The best feature is that it only requires one hand to make the cast. No need to get the bail positioned in just the right place and flip it over with my other hand. This is the high water mark for fishing reel design- maybe under spin design is slightly better but they share the same beneficial features.

Excellent
Bought an ABU soincast combo for my 5 year old's birthday and whilst the rod is ok, the reel is shocking, plastic and cheap. Star drag snapped on first outing and couldn't hold the lure tight to the rod when clipped up. Enter the zebco, solid, ambidextrous (switched to left hand retrieve) and mostly importantly easy to use. Arrived on time to the UK. Don't know why more anglers in UK don't use these as starter reels before progressing to baitcast / fixed spools.

smooth
This is a great reel. It exudes quality. Drag adjusts smoothly and effortlessly. Doesn't cast quite as well as my Daiwa Fuego but it costs half as much and also has no propensity to tangle. I definitely recommend this product.

Absolutely stunning reel
Bought this reel from USA as a result of the many positive reviews from anglers. This is a quality engineered product and possibly the finest reel in my expanding collection. Bought to use with my trigger 5'6'' spincast rod for some light shore lure fishing. Casts like a dream and I cannot understand why spin casting reels (closed face) are not more popular in UK. Everyone in US starts on a Zebco...even kids of 5 or 6 years!!
