Direct replacement for a Craftsman 486.24837 42" snowblower attachment.

OEM spec, OEM made, OEM part number. Is a direct replacement for 40" and 42" snowblower attachments made by AYP that have brand labels of Craftsman, MTD, Husqvarna.

I keep one in stock-- just in case

A year or so ago, my MTD snow blower's auger stopped turning. All the shear pins were intact, and a little detective work uncovered an auger gearbox that was no longer doing its job. I parked it and finished up with a snow shovel-- not my favorite pastime, but I got lucky that it had been a really light snowfall. I tore the gearbox apart and saw that the bronze worm gear had worn out. It had been used for 10 years and had suffered its share of crashes so I wasn't terribly surprised. The local machinery dealer was sold out-- apparently this is a common failure point. The dealer would take a while to replenish stock so I looked up the original part and cross-referenced it to this one. After a couple of days I had it in my hands. The worm gear was a direct replacement for what was originally in my snow blower. I made sure to clean out all the debris from the old gear and to repack the gearbox with grease. After some reassembly, the snow blower started up and the auger worked just like it had when it was new. This gear is less than $25, so I ended up buying another one. I keep it in a box with spare shear pins. I can replace it in a couple of hours and have a functional snow blower again, which beats shoveling by hand for two days while the delivery truck shows up. Maybe I'll never need it, but if I do...

Back in business again - working well

At the end of last winter, snow blower auger stopped spinning. Shoveled snow for the last couple rounds while I debated buying new or repairing the old. Decided to repair the Troy-Bilt Storm 2620. You'll need some grease and a grease gun if you don't have one: https://amzn.to/3oCIwMx There's some Youtube videos on this job, following those made this job straight forward. We've had a few rounds of snowfall this winter, and snow blower has been working as good as new.

Right part Fast delivery

My snowblower made spaghetti out of my brass auger gear with snow on the way. Got the part but needed a new gasket. After doing damage to a cereal box I had a great gasket. Popped in the gear and good as new. Never understood why these gears are made out of a soft metal like brass.

Great replacement gear

Broke the snow blower last week and needed a new gear, this one filled the bill and it's redesigned model. Make sure you use 00 grease with the gear box rebuild as it will be ruined with wheel bearing grease.

Fixed our Craftsman Snowblower & Saved us Hundreds!!

This little piece was exactly what we needed to fix our Craftsman snowblower - instead of spending hundreds for a larger replacement part and labor, we spent around thirty. Woohoo! The old gear was terribly stripped but, happily, that was the only reason the blades had stopped turning. Meticulous disassembly, cleaning and greasing everything, replacing this gear, and then putting it all back together were what the snowblower doctor ordered. So glad this part was available and thinking about ordering another for future replacement, assuming the same thing will eventually happen in another few years.

For my model MTD 2 stage, this worm gear worked like magic!

This gear replaced a completely worn down gear in the auger drive gear assembly as shown. This gear was a fraction of the price of a new assembly so I thought I'd take a chance at repair myself. Worked better than I could have imagined. Cheers!

Gear and shear pins

The gear was easy to install using You Tube videos.Amazon as usual is great to deal with. The following paragraph has nothing to do with Amazon . It's why I ordered these parts. The original shear pins in the Troybilt snowblower did not break when a small branch entered the auger.Instead in stopped the auger and damaged this gear. Very disappointing. The snowblower was only used 3 times.

More cost friendly than buying complete unit.

Perfect fit. Exact replacement. And pretty straight forward install with good cleaning, then grease up gears and then RTV for gasket material. Very cost effective if you have the ability and tools for diy.

Numper of teeth was wrong,

It has less teeth than what was shown in the diagram. Now I can't return it even though it is in its original package.
