Best First Catchers Mitt
I have tried out at least a half a dozen youth catchers mitts for my very small nine year old. From ranging from $60-$120. This one was the best combination of quality and usability. For a young player, minor AA and younger this is the ideal catchers mitt and comes about 80% broken in. It has the right size, palm and finger stalls. My son felt the most comfortable right out of the box with this glove. In comparison, to several others, I would offer this: the Rawlings Renegade is the best value at about 55 bucks however while very robust it’s also about 3oz heavier than the Mizuno and Wilson. The Rawlings is a good glove and would’ve kept it had my son been a little bigger and stronger. The Wilson A500 is similar to the Mizuno in that it’s lighter and more “broken in” than the Rawlings due to its thinner construction. It’s a little bit more expensive than the Mizeo, but my son liked the Mizuno better. He was more confident catching with the Mizuno right out of the box. The Wilson is also good for smaller, younger catchers. Akadema Prodigy ($120) is a well-made glove that will need a little more traditional breaking in. It was too big for a small 9yo. The All Star Pro Comp ($120) is clearly the best of the bunch in terms of build quality and durability. It’s a more pro style mitt that will need considerable break-in (similar to pro-stock level) and meant for older youth players (even into HS) and way too big and heavy for 11 or younger (except the bigger of bunch). Once broken in it expect this to big a very durable long lasting mitt. The Mizuno ($70) seems to be the best fit for newer/smaller catchers. Be aware that the inside palm area is black leather. The color will stain and rub off in your hands and discolor the lighter areas of the glove through use and definitely while applying glove conditioner. Does not affect the performance at all. Just an FYI.

Great Mitt for Young Catcher
This mitt is great for a young catcher. My son got it when he was 8 and lasted him until he was 11 and we got him a bigger mitt. Now my youngest son (7) is using it. Great quality and easy to open and close.

Love it!
Perfect for the 9 year old in Little League. He loves it and was very happy how flexible it was right from the start.

Easy to Break in and great thumb protection
My 11 year old son loves catching, but has suffered so many thumb injuries with multiple other gloves. I think this Mizuno glove is finally the solution. First off it was insanely easy to break in. 2 days and it was ready to play, but the impressive part is after 3 weeks and multiple pitchers not once has his Thumb hurt. Thank god

Good for the developing catcher.
Grandson started to catch in LL. Team glove(s) were poorly taken care of but were the exact same model. They fit his hand. Out of the box the glove is ok but needed work. Purchased, oiled it wrapped a ball in it with the sides absolutely even. A week later played catch with my 9 yr old grandson. Glove has a pocket, ball sticks when he gets the glove in the right spot. Nice 'pop' sound like the pros. Will make batters think the pitcher has more on the ball than they do. Same way I handled gloves for my boys and LL teams. Takes some of the effort out of the kids job when he knows the ball will not bounce out and builds confidence in a 9 yr old. He can make the throw down, the tools are there. BTW - steam?? Ovens?????Nope old school works. He will have this glove for several years and could pass it along. Found out he now puts the glove away with a ball in the pocket and velcro wrapped to keep the shape. The kid learned. ????

Perfect for 10U Player
My son just started learning to catch about 9 months ago. This was his first mitt, and I could not be happier. The extra few dollars this costs over other mitts are extremely well spent. My player is a bit on the smaller size for 10U, but this glove works great for him. Some of the kids on his team are throwing well into the 50+ mph range, and this glove works very well for him. Minimal player break-in was required, but that a good thing. A bit of player break-in has allowed him to shape the action to his own hand. I highly recommend keeping the glove conditioned with petroleum jelly. Catchers spend a lot of time putting the mitt into the dirt and the glove can dry out. A bit of petroleum jelly every once in a while helps to clean out the dirt and keep it flexible. If you feel better about using a petroleum jelly product branded for baseball, I recommend the Nokona product: http://www.amazon.com/Nokona-NLT-Classic-Leather-Conditioner/dp/B001B84ZYM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1392129978&sr=8-2&keywords=nokona+glove+conditioner Unlike other oils, the PJ won't soak into the glove making it heavier. This is very important esp for younger players to help with their reaction time with the mitt. My son spent last summer learning to catch, and last fall as the team's primary catcher. This mitt looks broken-in, but otherwise brand new. As a stereotypical gear-junkie baseball dad, I couldn't be happier with this mitt. This is one of the best baseball purchases I've made.
