Fancy, very white, and durable
When you put these down, it makes a "clink" that screams "fragile" and "expensive". Your company will think you brought out your fancy plates just for them, but actually you can use these every day. I do. They are much more durable than you'd expect, and they look so so nice!

Beautiful Mikasa Dinnerware
This is not my first experience with Mikasa. Aside from miscellaneous mugs, vases, and sundries I've collected over the years, I also have a Napa Countryside service for 8 or Mikasa dinnerware which I love. These everyday dishes meet the quality expectations I've come to expect from Mikasa. The packaging was fantastic. Upon seeing how much packing material was in the box, I knew immediately that I wasn't going to be disappointed by finding broken pieces. Inside the main box, the dinner plates, dessert plates, bowls, and mugs were all separated into additional boxes. The dishes are all flawless. None have even the slightest imperfection. I was excited to discover that they are exceptionally lightweight compared to most porcelain dinnerware, and even lighter than my set of Lenox porcelain dinnerware. I love the simple elegance of the set, where the solid white surface will allow the food to be the star of the plate. While I typically consider it a waste to include tea cups with a dinnerware set (since I generally tend to only use large coffee mugs), I was very happy to see that the mugs included with this set are actually quite large. I immediately washed the entire service in the dishwasher without any issues. I then performed two important tests. First, I boiled water in one of the bowls using the microwave. The bowl held up very well. It was certainly very hot to the touch when I removed it, but I was able to remove it using my bare hands. I don't think I could have lifted it from the bottom without a potholder, but the rim of the bowl was not too hot to handle. My final test was the most important one for any solid white dishware. I added some tomato sauce to one of the bowls and "baked" it into the dish using the microwave. I let the dish cool until the sauce was completely stuck to the surface. I am pleased to report that it cleaned up beautifully and did NOT stain the bowl! It actually cleaned easily with just water, but there was a faint orange residue. As soon as I added a drop of Dawn, the stain wiped right off. I strongly recommend this dinnerware set. I absolutely love it and I almost feel a bit guilty using dishes as beautiful as these for my everyday dinnerware.

Wow! High quality porcelain
You don't often run into a high quality porcelain any more, and this set is the real deal. (I'm a little bit of ceramics snob due to my best friend being a ceramic artist who taught me about the various kinds of ceramics and what makes them break or last.) I was really impressed by this set! It's true, perfectly vitrified high temperature fired porcelain, which should make it exceptionally hard and long lasting. In the first image, you can see the hallmark of the "real deal" - it's translucent despite a decent thickness. Plates are on the heavier side, the bowls and cups lighter, all of them solid and clearly something that will last a very long time. I wish you could hear the ring when I tapped a cup - it rang with a beautiful, clear tone and for a very long time, another mark of good quality china. I still have a couple of heirloom porcelain plates from 1800s, and don't have a reason to believe these wouldn't last as long. The set came carefully packed as well. Well worth the price.

Super attractive, contemporary set!
I love this tableware set! I think that it is very attractive, both for everyday use and even for nicer occassion use. It was very well packaged and arrived in perfect condition! Yes, this set is a bit pricey vs Corelle dishe sets, which I think highly of and have used my entire life, much these just seem so much fancier than everyday dishes. I don't mind at all that this set does not come with cup saucers, those seem kind of old fashioned and too stuffy for me. I do occassionally drink hot tea, so, then it is nice to have a saucer for your tea bag and spoon, but I will just use some other type of cup/mug and small plate. I do have a set of "fancy" China that never sees daylight-like literally it has been used perhaps 4 times in 30 years? So if I ever needed to serve a guest hot tea with a cup and saucer that matched I can do that. I think most people live so much more casually nowadays. If you can afford it, I think two of these sets would make the most wonderful wedding or first home present for someone special. I am attaching many photos of the tableware and packaging of this fabulous set! I ordered them to give to my son when he moves into his first apartment.

Lovely dishes
These are beautiful, well-made dishes. I immediately ordered this and then another to have service for 8. I probably will pick up a final set this week. I am trying to be careful, but I haven't seen any chips. they seem fairly durable-- definitely more so than stoneware, which I've totally given up on despite how attractive it is. Our regular dishes are corelle, because I am sick of chipping dishes-- and for the past 10 years I've gone with corelle, and recently replaced my entire set of them. I like the variety of dish sizes. However, I also thought eating on something ELSE would be nice and started looking for regular ceramic dishes. I remember growing up and thinking bone china was fragile and delicate, so I was surprised to learn that, next to tempered glass or vitrelle, this is actually the most durable. It's also lightweight, like the glass, and much lighter than stoneware. Recommended. I'm still trying to be careful, but in our family, if it's not corelle, dishes break. Even our old corelle started having a few chips on the sides of some of the plates and bowls. I hope this lasts. It IS a pretty pattern, looks elegant, and it doesn't take a lot of room stacking. Recommended.
