Expensive but well-designed
I wanted a drop-pouch for hunting and pistol sport shooting that I could keep extra magazines/loose shells in. After living on the tundra, you get used to wearing heavy winter coats and carry a backpack, but having a pouch that goes over your clothing is key so you can get to important items. A backpacking trip also prompted me to want to buy a fanny pack. Seeing my hiking buddy simply snatch his water bottle from his waist, as opposed heaving his 40 pound pack off like I did every time I was thirsty (I know I could get a camel back system, but I don't like water-bags). The Maxpedition was clearly designed for ammo carrying. You can efficiently store ~8 pistol magazines without them bouncing against against each other. It is illegal in most situations (for civilians) but it is handy that the bag can hold a normal full-sized pistol (4"-5" barrel). The backing of the fanny pack is comfortable and soft, not a material that would chafe. It has many storage pouches to organize important gear. I hang ear protection of the clip on the front. Very nice. The leg strap would be the only thing that I don't like about it (that and you can only fit a 500ml bottle in the main pouch). It's just uncomfortable. But it could be because I have big thighs and no leg straps that I've tried are comfortable. Otherwise, it was a great buy for a shooter/backpacker. UPDATE: After three years of use, I'd have to say that it is well-made and withstands fairly hard-use. I've used it for hiking, backpacking, shooting, and airsofting. After shooting with it for years, I can say that I'm going to buy a proper duty belt. It works for what I used it for: to simply carry extra mags and spent mags after I'd go on a long walk and do some plinking, but it become uncomfortable to use when running and shooting with a heavy load, such as in airsoft. It is even worse to run with real magazines in the magazine pouches. It just bangs around too much. Also, I couldn't get the belt tight enough for me: I'd have to sew it. I'm not exactly a skinny guy, either. When my healthy weight friends use it, it almost falls off of them. For airsofting, when I use it for extra pockets and as an additional dump pouch, I use suspenders. It is handy for what it is. With that said, I'm dropping the rating from a 5/5 to a 4/5, but it is still a good product.

Awesome
I purchased this for my sister to take on all day hikes as part of rebuilding her gear set up after her back surgery--she wanted to redistribute her gear about her body so there would be way less weight on her actual back. After a lot of research, I chose the Maxpedition Thermite to start with. She loves it. She took it with us out to Silver Falls and we ended up hiking over thirteen miles in two day trips, with 1000 foot ascent/descent on the back half of the trails, through muddy switchbacks and climbing over storm downed trees. It didn't 'stick out' from her body too far--no hang ups on trail foliage--and yet, she was able to carry her basic BOB gear comfortably. And, I admit, she looked dang cool while doing it. She loved it so much that she just picked up a second thermite for the other leg. For her birthday this year, I just ordered her the Maxpedition Extreme Rollypoly Backpack--which will give her an 'ultra light' bag that can actually take real world use. When her back strength boosts up, I'll probably get her the Pygmy, but until then, this will give her the ability to carry her rolled up jacket, silnylon tarp with cords and stakes, and other such larger items (like Mountain House food and a small steel cookpot)--as her other gear will be neatly in the two Thermites. If her lower back does awesome, then possibly a Proteus. By keeping all the gear to minimum levels and redistributing them about her body, she will be able to have a high quality solid use BOB--and actually be able to carry it comfortably and safely. I liked the Thermite so much that I'll be adding one (most likely two) to my set up, also. And will be giving one to start my other family members gear set ups this year at their birthdays. None of us are twenty somethings, so shifting our gear about for an easier load out is serious. Not that the Hercules and Xenas of the world wouldn't benefit in the long run over easing the weight off their spines. And with Maxpedition's expanding colors, I'll be able to color coordinate each person's set up for easy eyeball recognition. This baby is an amazing buy--it looks awesome, it is built like a tank, and it makes carrying gear--whether for hikes, BOB or EDC--far more comfortable than just one large pack or bag. And because it is easily adjustable and can be worn on either leg, it fits a wide variety of people. Heartily recommend adding the Maxpedition Thermite to your set up.

Suits my needs
Not bad for the price. I waited for the price to come down a bit before I pulled the trigger. I plan on using this for Turkey calls during hunting season. Obviously not what it’s designed for as the clips will make noise, but I’m sure I can make it work. It was a little smaller than I expected, but my calls all fit with a little room to spare.

Heavy Duty
This is a heavy duty bag. I have only had it a few days but it seems built to last. I can carry a lot of stuff in the bag. The main compartment has two open pockets that can hold flat things and then the big open space in the middle. The big zipper that runs across the top opens to a very big bag. In the picture it looks like it opens to a small opening of the area between the zipper and the top of main compartment, but it keeps running down behind the main compartment into a huge pocket. I use this for everyday use and when I go riding on my bicycle. My only complaint is the leg strap always slides down my leg to my knee area no matter how tight I put it. I can't walk more than 10 feet or so before it starts slipping down. I have had two other drop leg bags (that were horrible quality which is why I bought this one) but neither of them had this problem. I am going to install a belt loop on my pant inseam so the leg strap can stay put where I want it. Other than that, the bag is pretty nice. It is very rigid, which I don't mind, but others might like a softer material.

Good Product
I purchased this for camping/kayaking. It works well and is pretty heavy duty. The pockets seem a little off size wise (although the side is perfect for an epipen and the front zipper pocket fits a flask like it was made for it, in case you feel like nip on your trip) and a couple more spots for attaching exterior gear would be nice but overall I'm happy with the bag. Probably a bit overpriced though.

Marsupio MAXPEDITION Thermite Versipack
