Correcting my previous answer. Cabinet of wood.
Cabinet was sturdy and came assembled. It was made of wood and had wheels, which I removed for security reasons. I did have to pay a locksmith to adjust/reset the locking mechanism so it did lock.

While this is an attractive cabinet and will serve my purposes, be aware that there are problems with it. As another reviewer posted, "The four wheels have only two starter holes which are little more than a drill mark past the laminate. Each of the wheels has four mounting holes and the requisite number of screws needed." Unlike that reviewer, I do not own a drill. I ended up having to just use a lot of force with my screwdriver, and it took a lot longer. In addition to the problems with putting the castors in place, the bottom drawer does not open unless you open the top drawer and physically pull the locking mechanism upward. The key will turn in the lock, but the top drawer will never be locked, no matter how you slide the locking mechanism and what degree you turn the key in the lock. So if you really want a cabinet that securely locks, this is not the one for you. I rated this 2 stars because the locking feature was an important one for me, and I'm quite disappointed that it doesn't actually lock.

Nice cabinet but arrived damaged - UPDATE replacement was received
Nice file cabinet but it came damaged so over all gave two stars. No damage to the outside packaging so I suspect that it was damaged during packaging. I will re-rate if the seller makes it right by replacing with a new undamaged cabinet. Just started the return and will see if I am contacted within two days as stated I would be. UPDATE: I received a replacement file cabinet and was a little worried because the outside box was damaged but the replacement file cabinet inside was not damaged. It took a little while for the seller to investigate and authorize the replacement but it was replaced and made right. Nice file cabinet for the money.

a gift, but trouble opening the bottom door
It is beautiful and looks great in the home office. It arrived as a gift and the bottom drawer would not open. It took several weeks before we discovered how to open it. We did so manually by moving the upper interior lock. It would have helped to have a tip on this in the instructions.

Mounting holes are not pre-drilled
Nice heavy unit. Heavy drawers. It is made of particle board with laminate. The four wheels have only two starter holes which are little more than a drill mark past the laminate. Each of the wheels has four mounting holes and the requisite number of screws needed with (surprise surprise) a couple of extras.To mount them correctly and not run the risk of cracking the laminate or particle board underneath I took a #40 drill bit and drilled about a quarter inch deep hole for each screw location. This took a little longer but the wheels are solidly mounted with no fear of the screws being less than secure. This is why I only gave it four stars and not five. So while it says only a phillips screwdriver needed I strongly recommend pre-drilling the mounting holes.

Great Purchase
I bought this to replace a filing cabinet that was probably 40 years old. I love it. All I had to do was put on the drawer handles and the rollers on the bottom. It is very sturdy and really beautiful. So glad I found this and really pleased with it.

The product was damaged before/ during delivery
The product was damaged at delivery. It is sturdy and easy to lock and was already assembled. We won’t return it as we would incur the shipping charges and this is a very heavy piece of furniture. We feel we should get a discount for the piece due to the damage of the item.
